The Wondrous Dark Rituals of ShadowDance Continue To Amaze & Intrigue!
SITREP
And I’m quite serious about *frighten*! A couple of the performances really challenged the mind with deep psychological content I’d never seen before, worth seeing — hard to decide if I’d want to see again (?)
But most performances were incredibly artistic in terms of music, dance performance, some hiliarity!, but all very enjoyable as a night performance.
THE SETUP
This all took place inside the Oakland Metro Operahouse which plays host to ShadowDance, and which is created by Ariellah and Darker Still Productions (her artistic company which mainly promotes the gothic belly-​dancing art & instructional that she travels around the world to train).
ShadowDance features a full night of performance art & music, with other eclectic sets of performance art that this night included dance performance with a strong belly-​dancing core, some circus freak acts that were quite entertaining, other performance art, a mini-​show by «Dangerious Puppets», even aerial performances!
All-​in-​all, a very grand time you would probably have to normally travel to Budapest, Hungary to find the likes of!
THE LINE-​UP
The actual artist, musicians, dancers, etc. etc. were as follows:
* Anthony Jones — exceptional, haunting vocal number
* Deshert Dance Company — Ariellah’s belly dancing troupe, though tonight’s performance was more interpretative & powerful in it’s anti-​violence message.
* Nisha — beautiful dancing
* Undercrypt — more exotic dancing
* Fluidgirl — an interpretive piece leaving you wondering, «What did I just see?»
* Paul Mercer — fantastic violin performer who takes electonicized music to anotherworld
* Bad Unkl Sister — another performance art piece
* Cindy Kaori, Saudade, & Hiraeth — vocalist, aerialist & sonic musicianship unite in one seamless, beautiful presentation
* Displayed Labors Sideshow — hiLARious freak show with blood, sparks 7 funny weirdness
* Ego Umbra — A frightening look of how One’s Soul is destroyed by violence, and dark dark descent of performance dance that investigates this hell.
* Dangerous Puppets — a tale of creation (and some puppet-sex…*cough*)
* Kandroma
* Zoe Jakes
* Arish Lam — one of my favorite performances of the nights because of their visually arresting style & appearance!
* And the astounding singing & stand-​up talents of the emcee, Loren Muzzy!
