The pros: Beautiful location, off-​street parking, attractive front room, nice outside deck and playground, wheelchair accessible. Armando, who handles reservations, is friendly, professional and very quick to return phone calls. For Oakland residents, this is about as cheap as you’ll be able to rent a facility for a special event.
The cons: Small! Can’t really seat more than 40 for dinner if you want to have a dance floor. Bathrooms and kitchen need updating. You must pick up the bathrooms, collect all garbage and recycling, and take it to the dumpster yourself at the end of your event.
The permit process, especially for a teen event, is confusing and lengthy — the information on the city’s website is out of date, so be sure you ask Armando a LOT of questions. Plus, if your teen event is at night, you MUST hire security guards… making the cheap location not so cheap.
Bottom line: Would be a nice place for a medium-​sized reunion or anniversary party. Wouldn’t recommend it for a teen event.

Gayle and I took another drive yesterday to look at possible wedding venues. We actually might have found our perfect spot, but not here. However, for the money and beauty, the Sequoia Lodge is a very worthy option that is definitely worth a good look.
The Sequoia Lodge is located in a pretty and serene wooded setting and would be very nice for a small wedding. There’s a nice outdoor area, a wraparound balcony, and a main room inside with a cool raised skylight in the middle, along with a neat recessed fire place area. The only thing I think they need outside to accent wedding ceremonies a bit more would be a pretty arch or gazebo.

This place would have been so perfect for our wedding, except we have a much larger family than the space can accomadate. It can hold about 80 people at tables or about150 standing.
Simply Elegant and beautiful. The wooden floor has this intricate pattern of multi-​colored woods creating star-​like design. The sky light over the main banquet floor casts natural light throughout the room, hitting the colored wooden floor. did I mention the sunken stone fireplace/​conversation area? The space is maybe enough for 10 – 12 people to sit comfortably on benches with the fire going. So romantic.
Outside, wrap-​around balconies overlooking serene redwood and eucalyptus trees. you feel like you are in another world. Nice area to escape from the interior space.
Becasue there is a day care facility here during the week, there is a children’s play area. I’m not sure if it can be included in the rental, that would be a good question to ask the city of Oakland.

midnight to 1 am deposit $ 300, $ 75 residents, $ 115 non-​residents.
