Richard Lavigna, DPM – Advanced Foot Clinic

I have been seeing Dr. Lavigna for the past two years. He and the support staff are really wonderful. I can’t recommend enough!

I chose to get a groupon for my father’s birthday since he has fungus problem. They advertised their treatment well and decided to give them a try. My father went in for his first treatment and after he had a few more sessions. My dads fungus has spread to the other foot. The doctor said he cannot guarantee treatment. If that was the case, then you should let patients aware that it cannot get better. I tried calling and asking for a patient ledger so I can consult another doctor about it, never heard from them. They are a bunch of rip offs and are not professional at all. I’m an office manager for a private doctor, please don’t advertise if you can’t guarantee treatment. I’m upset the fact that it has spread. Maybe the machine that he uses, isn’t being sanitized and transferred from patient to patient. That’s definitely an OSHA Violation.

I love the place. DR. Lavigne is great. He fix me right up. And the staff is very helpful and nice.

Really good experience; bought the groupon deal for toenail mung treatment and got an Rx for newest treatment meds with an affordable copay. Future treatments are only $ 250 a piece and if the laser can fix me I’ll be back for more.

Came here for ToeNail laser fungus removal. So far there are improvements after 1^st session. It’s probably going to take another session or two to get everything perfect. Which is standard! Dont expect a miracle cure after 1 session, people. Also the doctor and staff went out of their way to help me with other foot issues I had and even helped me get free medicine. I felt like they cared about my health and didn’t just try and bait and switch me with a groupon deal like some clinics would. I recommend them.

Despite how furious I was after the miscommunication during my last visit, Dr. Lavigna is an incredible doctor.

I had two botched ingrown toe nail surgeries from Dr. Lavigna. He did not remove enough of the nail so it kept growing back. I was also put off by the lack of cleanliness in his office. He is a nice guy but not a good doctor.

I will assume that Dr. Lavigna is a decent professional although he seems less interested in my very hard to get rid of toe nail fungus each time I go in. On my first laser treatment visit he told me I may need to come back one more time for the treatment to work. On my last visit he said that it could take 6 treatments.
I’ve been in three times for laser treatment and I’m now done. It’s just wasting money. The efficacy of the treatment is very much in question (
) and it’s had some impact on my situation but it keeps coming back. He also gave me some medication that should be applied to the toe nails but did not tell me that i need to apply it for a year before it works! That’s not going to happen.
I wouldn’t say this business is a scam but my treatment could have been much higher quality. I’m exploring other options.

I dont know how many people have had the Living Social Deal, I assume a lot, and it freakin hurt my feet real bad. I have tattoos and piercings. I kept having to move my feet out of the way cuz of the heat. I would never do it again — the laser treatment for toe nail fungus.

I guess there are different types. I have to do more research but I’m pretty sure if there is a living social deal for Toe Nail Fungus Treatment — in and out — you can probably guess it doesn’t work or is too good to be true.

I don’t even know where to begin. Dr. Lavigna was not only knowledgeable and well equipped to provide my care that I was referred to him for by my PCP, but he was very thorough and not in a manner to over bill the insurance like some others I have seen do, his patience with me was a breath of fresh air and he took the time to honestly LISTEN to my whining about my long term condition. The staff was helpful, attentive and welcoming. The clinic was clean and modern. The wait was very short, I did not even have enough time to complete my paperwork as a new patient. The medication for my treatment is not covered by my insurance, but Dr. Lavigna took the time to find the very last box of samples to get me started as I am on a fixed income. BUT MOST OF ALL, his bedside manner [exam chair] was more than extraordinary to me. His mannerisms reminded me of the old school house call doctors. I am SOLD, I will be a long term patient of his, NOW if I could find a PCP that I felt this way about, I would not dread going to the doctor as much, lol.

I saw Dr. Lavigna on ⁹⁄₂₇ as a referral from my primary care physician. He was very thorough and willing to listen to everything I had to say before diagnosing my symptoms. I liked that I was able to have x-​rays taken within 10 – 15 minutes after my examination and even more pleased to begin physical therapy that same day. Overall, the office staff was very accommodating and even walked me over to the PT (Foot Clinic) section of the offices.
I waited to write this review after I attended PT a few times: All the members of this group were helpful and explained each aspect of my therapy. I liked that everyone worked together considering clients do not have to make appointments. The option to make an appointment is there if you prefer. There was one visit where all «seats» were taken and I had to wait about 15 minutes. Everyone was very busy and although no one approached me, it was obvious that I was waiting.
I would recommend Dr. Lavigna and the Foot Clinic if ever asked for a referral. I am a true believer of customer service and Dr. Lavigna and his staff have provided exactly that.
A couple of suggestions: Upgrade the offices and waiting area and provide free Wi-​Fi to their clients.

I was referred to Dr. Lavigna by my primary care physician. He is a very pleasant person and seems knowledgeable and has a great «bedside manner». There is some truth to some of the reviews regarding the space being a little cluttered however, it was comfortable and I didn’t notice anything that I could say was «dirty». Actually, I have seen about 3 different podiatrists and haven’t’ seen any cutting edge equipment in any of the offices. The staff was pleasant and they were very accommodating. In checking the reviews, it seems like he (the doctor) has either changed staff or required them to go through some customer service training. Often that is all that is needed to change the experience from a negative to a positive. I am just hoping that my procedures go as well as promised!

While my initial experience two years ago was terrible, Dr. Lavigna recently found this review and contacted me directly. It may be a few years late, but he apologized and refunded the money owed to me plus the original $ 25 copay. I just received the check in the mail. I will not be back, but I suspect (and sincerely hope) people will have a better experience with billing going forward.

I have really high praise for doctor lavigna. I had bunion surgery and it went well. the doc always kept my spirits up. I was constantly given positive feedback and i felt that he always had my concerns in mind.
One note, his assistant Angie is amazing. Angie runs around there doing just about everything.
The office itself is very cluttered and could use a good cleaning. The x-​ray machine did work for me however i do know what other reviews meant about some of the equipment. Don’t bother with the rehab. not worth it.

I, too, went to this place based on a Unilocal recommendation. The doctor is a nice fellow as are his staff, but I also felt the office could be cleaner. I also felt like they were just trying to sell expensive orthotics, none of which worked to solve my problem and both sets of which I added to the trash.

I love the doc — he’s very down to earth, funny, and spends more than five minutes with you no matter how small your problem (unlike a certain hotshot Oakland podiatrist who shall otherwise go unnamed) and gives common sense advice. I took my athlete child in to see him a few years back, and I was impressed with what seemed like his genuine interest in my child as both a person and a patient with a problem. He spent about 45 minutes with us answering my (sometimes silly) questions and speaking to me in terms I understood. Dr. L. has also been treating me for a minor toe injury. I always get seen right away, and I feel genuinely cared for and attended to. In both cases, the doctor decided that medical intervention was not necessary, and he made that decision not only based on his medical knowledge, but using the information we gave him about our personal lifestyles. There is also a LAC there on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a slew of physical therapists (or rather their assistants) to massage, ultrasound, and ice your way back to health. Going to PT there is sort of like going to the barber or beauty shop, in both good and not so good ways. Sure wish they’d put a lid on some of those overflowing trash cans…

This is a don’t judge a book by its cover, clinic. I have accompanied someone in appointments here with the following doctors: Richard Lavigna, Michael Hebrard and William Ribeiro, and have been to this clinic 10 times as an advocate in the last month.
Up side: Each one of the doctors made sure we understood the treatment options, focused on empowerment in choice-​making and were respectful. They were stellar at patient education and diagnosis, and I say that as a picky health care provider myself. They did not assume they had all the information and asked questions to make sure they had everything they needed to know and to confirm we understood what they were saying. I got mini lectures that rivaled my graduate level patho-​phys classes. They even made nutritional supplement suggestions that were fairly cutting edge and research based.
The staff anticipated what our needs for service were and handled it before we had to ask (paperwork, referrals, appointments). This clinic has rockin’ customer service. Everyone is nice and not too important to take the time to communicate whether it is technical medical information or where in the parking lot is not going to get your rig towed. Eye contact, greetings… the people here are present and pleasant.
Down side: Busy waiting room of colorful characters, office is a little run down and always hella busy.

Made appointment same day. ½ hour wait once paperwork completed. Friendly staff. Quickly got diagnosis and xrays on location. Foot not broken but bad turf toe. Sean the trainer was very helpful.
Location needs some TLC and a little bit of a clinic feel. Otherwise 5 star.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE!
I have never been so mistreated, the office staff is rude and incompetent. After overcharging me I spent a week on the phone trying to get refunded, I was told five times I would get a call back and never did. Finally, they tell me «it’s not my problem» and I should talk to my insurance company.
On top of this the doctor was about 97 years old and would not listen to my questions.
I would give zero stars if I could
BEWARE…

I hurt my foot last July (in the midst of training to hike Half Dome) and was having trouble walking. I looked on BPN and Unilocal for a podiatrist recommendation. I did not see any reviews about Dr. Lavigna in either place but took a chance because his office was centrally located on Grand Ave. (near Lake Merritt) and my insurance listed him as an «in network provider». I called his office and they fit me in right away. They are a very busy office with a large majority of the patients being postal workers. I have had several appointments as well as several walk-​in physical therapy visits and each time I was very pleased with the service I received. The office runs smoothly and the staff is very friendly and collegial. On each visit, Dr. Lavigna and the office’s physical therapist, Shawn, were very personable, asked good questions and provided excellent advice that fit into my active lifestyle. I hiked Half Dome a few days ago and did so without any pain in my foot related to the July injury. I would recommend them both without hesitation.
