Found a cute little dress for my upcoming trip to Italy. The staff was incredibly friendly and the merchandise is unique. It’s no bargain though

Came in here looking for vintage fashion since I was in the area. They had a small rack in the back of the store but pricey.
If you love Pendleton they carry that brand there.
I won’t be back.

They treated my wife like trash and then deleted her review (it seems — please prove me wrong). That’s outrageous. How suspect that all the reviews are 5 stars. First the worker accused her of lying about a purchase and said she remembered that she had made a hole in clothes found in the dressing room then the owner never called back as she had promised and refused to accept that she had sold defective clothes. Really bad service and form. And I don’t usually write bad reviews.

Been shopping here for a little over a year and it’s one of my favorite Oakland shops. They always have unique/​beautiful goodies and the owner and staff are absurdly nice.

I would like to ask the owner to decorate my home with all of the items in this store. Pro bono?
This is one of those shops that I could spend hours in, looking at each and every little and big item. Great spot to find some unique gifts for others, but expect to buy yourself at least one Oakland– themed treasure.

I love this place. They have amazing aromatic sprays, beautiful artwork and I want to buy everything in here. Friendly staff and they also teach art classes here as well.

I seriously can’t walk in there without finding something wonderful that I have to have. Every time I go in the store has been updated with new vintage finds and local artist creations. There is something amazing in every nook and cranny and the prices are very reasonable. This is the perfect place to find a rare and unique gift for a loved one. This past week I ended up with two beautifully hand crafted necklaces made by Erica Anne, (Metaphor Jewelry) the owner herself! Exceptional customer service, they always remember me and I don’t come in often! There is even a back room where a variety of classes are held and they have local artist events at the store all the time. They are heavily involved with the community. Support this local gem!

A great assortment of curated trinkets. This is the first place I had to when looking for a unique gift or maybe a little something nice for myself. The cashiers are always very friendly and welcoming as well.

I went in for the first time about a month ago and loved it! The staff working that day was really welcoming. They have a great selection of merchandise (both old and vintage) to choose from. The store is clean and very organized. Their baby stuff is really cute and I did end up purchasing a cute little onesie with a fish print and a matching beanie. Too cute to pass up!
It is a great store to find that perfect gift for someone. I just learned from their website that they offer classes, too, in the store. Quite interesting!

Fantastic boutique type store loaded with extremely unique one-​of-​a-​kind local finds. Can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a gift. Cool selection of «Oakland stuff». Very friendly vibe. I just stopped in out of the blue and left with a trove of little treasures. I have no doubt I’ll be back.

I come here every chance I get for super hip clothes (especially vintage tie, bow-​ties, and jackets), gifts, and good vibes. (My friends make fun of me for it sometimes, but then always seem to compliment the stuff I wear, so who’s laughing now?) The folks who work here are excellent, helpful, and not pushy at all. Rare Bird: always a good choice.

Rare Bird now offers art classes, one being mosaics by the recognized mosaic artist and teacher Pamela Consear.
As a guy who has always found comfort in symmetry, Pam’s effectively subtle teaching demeanor quickly lowered my anxiety level as she coached me through the challenges of mosaic design and craftsmanship.
After the second class session I left with an appreciation for mosaics and a mosaic product, not to mention bragging rights!
To my macho friends I recommend signing up for a class for 2 — treat your lady and yourself to a short 2 session class of enjoyable creativity in perpetuity.

The Rare Bird is hands down my favorite store in Oakland. The jewelry, the candles, the clothes, the art, the boomboxes! My home is full of one-​of-​a-​kind items from this beautifully curated store. The service is welcoming, helpful and always professional. Plus I have enjoyed several of their art walk events and am looking forward to trying out an art class. If you are looking for locally based, unique and reasonably priced gifts for yourself or a friend — try here first!

Guru of stuff cool and nitchy. I am sure they market for the trendy and lots will love this place. I know a lot about cameras and what they say about those they have for sale are in fact quite accurate and priced to sell. You are assured one thing on the cameras, is that they will work like new.
Clothing, jewelry, and household items, the rest of the store is neat treasure trove of items worthy your visit.

Every time I time I travel to Oakland, I make sure to stop by my favorite store in the wide world, The Rare Bird. I’ve gotten a number of vintage pieces here that I absolutely adore. Not to mention every time I stop in they have sweet tunes playing and excellent customer service. The prices are more than reasonable and they have a great selection of treasures from local artists from jewelry to home décor and killer t-​shirts (I always get compliments for the At-​At Oakland shirt I scored here). Don’t forget to check out the great selection of stuff for the fellas and the cute vintage finds for the kiddos!

One time I took a friend from out of town there on a Monday, not realizing that they were closed. The owner happened to be there and saw that we were looking in. She unlocked the door and let us browse around while she did some work. So sweet! Definitely one of my fave places to get unique and fun gifts.

Aww! I finally visited The Rare Bird for the first time a week ago and it was even cuter than I expected it to be. The little boutique is kitschy in the best way possible and it’s aesthetic energy is positive and uplifting. I loved all the little trinkets they have and think it’s great that they sell locally made creations. Their vintage clothing is carefully curated, you’ll find a mixture of unique pieces from different eras (mostly 50’s-70’s) in good condition at fair prices. The employee working when I stopped by was really friendly and charming and was playing some good rock’n’roll tunes. The Rare Bird is a good spot to go to buy an adorable gift for yourself or a friend or just go there to browse cute things and feel happy.

I love this shop! You can get some great finds here. I left with a couple of pair of earrings and a camera! I was surprised to see that they have vintage cameras. The clerk told me that they have a camera guy that comes about once a month with new cameras. I now know where to go to add cameras to my collection :)

Beautiful products and a very upbeat and helpful staff.
This shop is raising the standards of Piedmont. I hope more shops will take their lead and take the time and care to provide a retail experience of this level.

This place is pretty adorable. And surprisingly reasonably priced. I expected the clothes to be much more expensive. And they have these totally awesome wool woven Indian tote bags right now that are only $ 38! I was Christmas shopping but I ALMOST bought one for myself. I’m still thinking about it. I might have to go back. Like seriously, I would expect handmade woven bags to be at least $ 80 around here. Plus, I saw several of the exact same items in Nathan & Co down the street, but for at least a few dollars more each. I would say if you’re in Nathan & Co and you see something you like, check Rare Bird first. They might have it cheaper.

The name is fitting! They have all sorts of lovely rarities, with a well-​picked selection of both vintage and new-​with-​vintage-​flair garments for both guys and gals. I tried on a cool retro black jumper ($ 30ish) a pair of black stretch Seven jeans ($ 80) and a funky pink crocheted top ($ 18), but settled on the white Habitual skinny jeans for $ 60. Every girl needs a pair of butt-​tight white pants, and I don’t plan on adhering to that silly Labor Day rule. I’m rockin’ em in January baby!
The store is very well-​organized, with lots of cool curios from home décor to funky minimalist jewelry (probably made by local designers, judging by the uniqueness). It is a well-​curated space that walks that line between upscale and urban, with friendly approachable service to boot!
