Came here on a recommendation from a friend for their jajangmyeon. Wasn’t disappointed at all. The price was right, for only $ 6.95 and it was real good! The noodles were on point and the sauce was delicious. We also ordered the japchae and dumplings, which were all right. The japchae was served over rice, which I’d never seen before. The dumplings were solid. The portions were right and for under $ 25, not too shabby. The place is a hole in the wall, but that’s where you find the best stuff sometimes. Try to the jj myeon, you won’t be disappointed.

Not only affordable. but hella delicious as well. Reminds me of Korea. There are not that many places that have bokkeuumbap with jajang sauce.

Jjajangmyun was good but tang su yuk was really bad. It has that strong pork smell you don’t want to eat. Everyone had one bite and couldn’t finish it. I won’t order it again. Service was good.

Korean Chinese fast food! Chinese food, Koreanized, that is. And it does come out fairly fast. This place is a great cure for rough mornings. You may be able to find me eating my feelings here on a weekday around lunch. The food is cheap and extremely comforting. There’s a large free parking lot serving the entire Koryo Plaza, making it breeze to get in and get out. I’m usually there for no longer than half an hour. The jajangmyeon used to be my jam, which is a heaping serving of curly ramen-like wheat noodles drowned in a thick black-bean sauce. It’s delicious, but it got to be a little too simple in flavor and heavy for my taste. So I moved on to my coworker’s fave, the mapa dubu(aka mapo tofu) and rice. This too is a large serving, but because it’s amazing I always finish it(and pay for it dearly with the food coma it always induces, which basically prevents me from being at all productive for the rest of the day). I’ve never been to Korea, but according to another friend of mine, this place is legit because it serves a side of jjam bbong soup with the mapa dubu, apparently a sure-sign of authenticity. FYI, this small bowl of spicy soup packs a punch! Definitely good for clearing your sinuses. I have had the mandu dumplings too, both the fried and steamed ways. They’re a good as a side to your main dish. I try not to eat here TOO too often, because it isn’t the healthiest. But hey, it tastes way better than McDonald’s or Jack-in-the Box, IMO. Not to be confused with Koryo Sushi or Koryo BBQ next door. Koryo Jajang is the divey-est of the bunch.

This is my fourth or fifth time here. And a go to place for quick tasty and reasonable lunch, with free parking! Today I had the hot and spicy with oysters and was it delicious… just the right hotness(I can still taste it on my palate three hours later, and its all good!). It comes quick and hot and just made, and the noodles are long and delicious, maybe better than most ramen places! My partner had the jjampong, and it was hard to describe, but very tasty. We actually more or less split the two dishes, so there was more variety, and had a side of fried dumplings(we’ll probably get the steamed next time, but they were still very delicioius). So efficient, they take credit card, and the tea is free, plus free parking! As good as it gets!!!

I came here because I had been stalking this restaurant for weeks and sorely wanted some jjampong and jjaangmyun, however this restaurant failed to meet my expectations. The menu here is pretty simple and they only have a few items to order. They seem to serve some of the simple /basic Korean street foods. We ordered the jjampong/jjaangmyun combo, and an order of fried dumplings. The food came out super quickly, less than 10 minutes, it looked so appealing but after having a bite I felt like it was a bit tasteless. I generally don’t eat very salty foods, so for me to think its tasteless must mean it definitely lacked enough seasoning. I haven’t had authentic Korean food in korea though so maybe I am too used to Chinese flavors which are a bit heavier . The fried dumplings were the saving grace since I could at least douse those in vinegar, fortunately this restaurant is very affordable, or else I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I think I will give it another try in the Future and probably order their fried dishes instead.

My friend’s turn to pick a place and he noticed a sign for all you can eat Korean bbq but I guess that sign is for another restaurant in the plaza. Found a good spot right on the street in front of the shopping plaza. The place is clean and cozy and the server was very friendly and attentive. She brought us some very hot tea and a bowl of soup for each of us. We ordered the fried chicken wings(not spicy) and a side dish of Japchae. The server brought the banchan as well and there is quite a variety. 3 of us aren’t into spicy food but the 4th one ordered spicy tofu stew, while the rest of us ordered hot stone bowl seafood bibimbap and hot stone bowl chicken bibimbap. The portions were hearty and tasty and I like the way the rice sticks to the stone bowl like crunchy rice from a pot. Prices are reasonable, portions hearty, serve is attentive and place is cozy.

This place is in a little plaza thing. Pretty cheap place for what it is. The place was pretty packed on a Saturday at lunch. Not a fancy place, but it’ll definitely satisfy your hunger. My friend and I both ordered the Jajangmyeon. Yum! Great price and great taste. The portions are a good size too. They also give you pickled radish on the side which acts as a good contrast to the noodles. There is a minimum charge fro credit cards so be careful. We didn’t know and the waiter was nice enough to let us use the credit card anyways. This is pretty close to UC Berkeley so that’s nice. I would definitely come back at this price point and the taste of the food.

Pretty laid-back place with pretty awesome Jajangmyeon. For those who are unfamiliar, it is a korean-chinese influenced dish similar to its Chinese counterpart Zha Jiang Mian(fried sauce noodles). Their Jajangmyeon is made of dried noodles mixed with a thick black soybean sauce with a tinge of sweetness coming from fried onions. There are also negligible pieces of meat(pork I believe) in the sauce. Mixed together with chewy noodles and you’re all set for a good meal. I also got the hand-made poached dumplings and they are pretty good too. TLDR: Solid authentic Jajangmyeon worth trying!

I absolutely love this place! I feel satisfied and content every time I come here. It’s so good and affordable and the portion sizes are huge! I usually get the spicy seafood noodles but I think it’s a great deal to get the half and half bowl which has the spicy seafood noodle soup along with the jajangmyeon if you want to have a little of both. The flavors are rich and intense — and the seafood noodles has a lot of seafood in it which include mussels, oysters, and squid. I also really liked the fried mandu/dumplings. It’s fried until it’s perfectly crispy and juicy. I would definitely come back over and over again. Also, the service is pretty attentive. Although there is usually only one waitress working, she comes by to check on the table pretty often and always asks if I would like a refill on the pickled radish/onions.

It was my first time trying ja jang myun(korean black bean noodles) for the first time and I have to say, it was oh so good! You want to make sure you don’t put too much of the black bean sauce otherwise it might be a little too salty for you. This dish is a must-get! Otherwise, I also tried the spicy noodle soup, the 2nd item on their menu. It had a little spicy kick to it and the seafood broth was rich with seafood flavor. If you want to try both, definitely get their combo! They give huge portions for its price!

This place is just as good as I remembered it to be. It’s been over 4 years since I’ve tried the jajangmyeon here and since then, I usually don’t go anywhere else. The best thing about this place is probably the price. You get a huge bowl of noodles smothered in sauce for around $ 7 and it comes with a side of pickled radish, onions and jajang in it’s purest form. If you want to try their typical and most common combination, you can order the ½ jajangmyeon, ½ jjampong. The spicy seafood soup comes with noodles as well so it’s a great way to try two of their dishes and it comes to around $ 8 – 9. The soup is not too spicy and very flavorful, although I wish I got more seafood in mine. Their sweet and sour pork is also quite delicious, but a tip is to eat it while it’s hot for the best taste! :)

I hate to leave a bad review because I have been a fan of this place for a while. I got really bad food poisoning from the food here. I had a quick breakfast at home followed by lunch at this restaurant. I spent the rest of the day nauseated and throwing up. More than 24 hours later and I’m still feeling sick and queasy. I’m sorry that this had to happen, because I really was a huge fan of this place. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will ever be returning…

Have to update to say in 2016, a bowl of Jajangmyun now costs $ 6.95, ~40% increase from the last time I was here. :/Also the portions have shrunk significantly — I used to be able to turn a bowl of jajangmyun into 2 meals but they now only give you enough for 1 person :/ Nonetheless, the noodles are still home made and tasty. And this is still my favorite Jajangmyun place to visit. Damn you inflation!

I lived in Korea for a year and a half and one of my favorite things to order was jajangmyun and japjaebap. Finding good jajangmyun in the US is not so easy, so coming across this place was a dream come true. Luckily the last few times I’ve come, they haven’t been busy, so I have been served quickly; but I’ve heard it can be busy at times. Usually we’ll get seated right away and the waitress brings either cold barley tea if it is a warm day, or hot barley tea if it is a cold day. I love this! The barley tea is a nice alternative to water when you want some hydration but don’t want to be drinking sugar or anything like that. The usual order is jajangmyun, japjaebap, and an order of dumplings — all shared with two people. Jajangmyun — So good. I love jajangmyun and theirs hits the spot. The flavor is perfect, it is served piping hot and in a portion large enough to share. I like to finish it with a little pepper flakes they have on the table. Jajangmyun is usually served with a pair of scissors, so don’t be weirded out. You use them cut up the noodles a bit to make them easier to manage. Japjaebap — This dish is served exactly the way I loved it in Korea. The spice level is just right and the portion is plenty for sharing with two people. Not much else to say except order it and enjoy it! Dumplings — I’ve had both the steamed and fried. I think I prefer the steamed. The steamed dumplings are lighter and you get more dumplings of a smaller size, which makes them easier to eat. The fried dumplings are also good, but they’re larger and heavier since they are fried in oil. Remember to make yourself a little tray of dipping sauce by mixing some vinegar and soy sauce into the little tray they give you. If you like a little bit of kick, they provide sriracha to mix in as well(which isn’t so Korean, but it works). The best part of all is that all of their noodles and dumplings are made fresh every day! Usually you can see the dumpling guy sitting there making them up. This really shows in the flavor and texture of the noodles and dumplings. This is a regular spot for me whenever I need my jajangmyun fix. If you’ve never tried jajangmyun or have been looking for a good one for a while make sure to come here and you’ll be in good hands.

For me, I’m thinking Koryo Jajang is a 1 trick pony. Well, actually 2 tricks. Since the 1 trick I’m thinking of is their Jampong/Ja Jang Combo. It’s cheap. It’s big portions. The Jampong was served borderline scalding hot, which was welcome on a cold night. The Ja Jang was delicious, but light on meat. All things factored in, 4 stars for this dish. It’s all the trappings around getting that dish that leave something to be desired. Service was straightforward & effective which was OK. The place looks a little rundown, however. I know there are some who feel certain cuisines aren’t «authentic» unless it looks like there’s potential for health code violation, but I don’t subscribe to that logic. & the parking lot. Wow, what a clusterf***. It’s worse than any Whole Foods parking lot I’ve ever been in. & that’s really saying something! Bottom line: would I come back? Yes, for the Jampong/Ja Jang Combo, if I’m I’ll already nearby anyway, & within walking distance, so I don’t need to contemplate trying to use their parking lot.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while, and as a college student I’m constantly on the lookout for good, affordable places to eat at. Koryo Jajang really hit the spot for me. I ordered the #1, which is the regular jajangmyun. I wasn’t really willing to spend the extra couple of dollars when the only difference I saw in the menu was that there was beef instead of pork. There wasn’t that much meat in the jajangmyun anyway. I’ve noticed that the prices have gone up(all by about $ 1) compared to menu’s that have been posted here in the past but I couldn’t argue because it was already so affordable and the portions were so huge. I’m really guilty of overeating and finishing my food, but even then I had to take a little bit back home. Half of the dish was enough to make me full. The service was a little subpar — there was only one girl who was in charge of taking orders, cleaning tables, and also filling up all the condiments, etc. which resulted in service being on the slow side. She was really nice though. I’m really looking forward to coming back here(quite regularly) since it’s not a far bus ride down from campus. A great place for when you have a 2-hour gap between your classes, a friend or two, a really empty stomach to fill, and when you’re sick of going to the same Berkeley lunch spots over and over again.

+ THEFOOD I LOVE their jjampong and ja jang myeon combo! The jjampong is pretty spicy but it has a lot of flavor to it. You can also eat some of the complimentary sweet radish pickle that helps reduce the spiciness in your mouth. There’s a bunch of seafood in the spicy soup and a lot of noodles as well. The ja jang myeon is my favorite because it’s soooo tasty and nicely sweet tasting. The portion sizes are huge because it was so hard to finish everything. + THESERVICE There were very very few workers there when my friend and I went. There was only 1 server looking after 10+ tables. Even though it was so hectic for her, she was very nice and made sure we got everything we ordered. — THEENVIRONMENT Kind of sketch place that is not all that clean. The restaurant is pretty tiny and seems a bit cramped. The open kitchen is right next to you and you can see everything that they are making. The place is overall pretty old and worn.

The first time I came to Koryo Ja Jang was more than 10 years ago. I used to frequent the place about once or twice a month and then the food started changing. The flavor was bland on some days and ok on others so I completely stopped coming about 2 – 3 years ago. I decided to give them another try today because I’ve been watching kdrama and they are always having ja jang myun which made me think about Koryo Ja Jang. There isn’t another place nearby that makes jampong and ja jang myun so I kind of had no other choice. But today, the food was pretty good, not great… just good enough to satisfy the craving that kdrama has put me through. I ordered the jampong/ja jang combo. The jampong was still a little bland, but the ja jang was decent. I just hate having to fight through the onions since everything is pre-made & you can’t request to have the onions left out. My son decided on the extra spicy jampong because he has to have all his food extra spicy. When I was younger, I was able to handle the extra spicy, but now that I’m older… no thanks! Overall, I would continue to come back here whenever I do have the craving for jampong and/or ja jang myun… until someone else decides to open up a spot that can make it tasty.

Best Korean Jajang Mian. They come in huge portions so I recommend sharing. I always get the combination of both jajangmyun and the spicy seafood soup. The spicy seafood soup could be a little more spicy and savory, but it’s still good. The soup should be slightly a thicker texture. Sometimes, I think it can be a bit watered down with no kick to it. BUT the regular jajangmyun though. Reminds me of home. The sauce is so thick and the restaurant was very generous in the amount of meat they put in there. For all visitors, definitely stop by here if you’ve never had jajangmyun. I take all my touristy friends here and they loved their experience. And it’s cheap! Like where these days can you find a large portion of food under $ 10

If you want a heaping bowl of hot homemade noodles this is your spot — I ordered the combo bowl(jajang and spicy seafood, in a split bowl) and had to take half of it home for dinner the next day. I think I enjoyed the Jajang more, very tasty with side of onions and pickled radish. The seafood was spicy enough(I like the heat) but I thought the broth was a bit lacking in the sea food flavor part of the equation, and the squid was a bit on the rubbery side. Staff are friendly and your food is up quick. A great little spot for a quick lunch or dinner. I will be back to try some of the other menu items. It’s easy to miss as it’s in a little strip mall on the side not facing Temescal, and there is parking in the lot in front.

It’s that rare rainy day in the Bay so what better way to enjoy the day than with a nice hot bowl of jampong! Make it even better with the combo bowl of jajang myun and my day is set! I don’t know who the genius was who invented the split bowl to allow the fusion of two of my favorite comfort foods of my youth, but this place serves it up perfectly! The jampong can be a bit spicy so beware. It’s made of a seafood soup that typically has 2 peeled shrimp, a mussel, and some pieces of squid in a spicy broth with their house noodles. The jajang myun is their black bean noodle dish and the taste is spot on. It’s the perfect complement to the soup and vice versa. You get a little savory noodle, and you get a little soup to made it all go down easier and break up some of the monotony of the jajang myun. The prices are reasonable. I paid $ 10 with the tip for this dish and it’s definitely enough to fill up the average human… even me. Wash it all down with their got barley tea and your meal is complete! Overall, great food, good flavor, friendly and quick service in a convenient location with parking FTW!

A 4 for sure. Right in the middle! Koryo Jajang is located where a lot of Korean restaurants are located on Telegraph Ave in Oakland. Look for the tall sign that says Koryo Plaza. They have a tiny parking lot, but large enough for us to find a space around 1pm on a weekend. While I was sick, I still needed to run errands and the fiancé wanted to have a bit of jajang myun and tang soo yook. Apparently when I introduced her to this magical combination back in NY, her love for the Korean people(I should give a little credit to the Chinese of Korean ethnic decent too :)) solidified. So to give my fingers a rest from my mammoth narrative about that nasty manager lady at Stoneridge Apartments, I’ll keep this brief: — Jajang was a solid 4. The portion sizes were what you’d expect from other places. No skimping here. Sauce was great too. A little lacking in the meat dept, but it was good enough. Oh, and it wasn’t oily either. — Tang soo yook — A weak 4, but I still enjoyed it. The batter… hmmm…I’ve had better. Don’t know how to elaborate further. Not as crispy? Maybe. Sauce was good though which bumped up this dish. Service: GREAT. The waitress was really cool. Completely bi-lingual, which was great for the Caucasian guy sitting next to us who asked for sriracha — which he promptly used to drown his jajang with it. Blegh. Reminded me of the scene in Joy Luck Club w/the soy sauce in the rice! I nearly hurled watching him eat it, but hey whatever floats your boat — and whose to judge in the judgement-free Bay Area? :) It’s all good, my Caucasian bruddah. Dine on!

VERYVERYVERY authentic korean food. One waitress manning all the tables but she managed to have decent service and take care of the customers. FOOD –Jajang men: Black bean noodles. WOW, super authentic. If you’ve had Zazang on El Camino Real, this is very similar. The noodles are very chewy and the sauce is packed full of flavor. –Jam pong: Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup. Very good! It’s definitely spicy; gets the sinuses going haha, but I think the spice is handle-able. Lots of seafood in it and it’s a good variety from shrimp to squid to mussels. The noodles are the same as those of the jajang men, equally as chewy despite being placed into the hot soup which is very impressive. –Sweet & Sour Pork(pictured): I always get this when I order jajang men and jam pong. The one here was good albeit the sauce was too sticky. At first it was okay but towards the end it just got super goopy, extra sticky and messy. Wish they used a bit less flour or whatever they use to thicken the sauce. SERVICE Only one waitress serving everyone and she was able to attend to most of our requests. It took her some time but when it came to the check and to-go boxes to pack what we had left, she was extra fast lol OVERALL Definitely will be back in the future! I might lose the sweet & sour pork and just stick with the noodles: JAJANG&JAMPONG are the way to go! They have a half half order where you get both which is great :)

If you are into good Korean jjampong and jajangmyeon, Koryo Jajang is the place for you. My friends and I were in the mood for some Korean food tonight and the original plan was to go to Jong Ga House for their AYCEBBQ. But at the very last moment we changed our minds and went to Koryo Jajang based on all the good reviews here on Unilocal. We arrived in the area at around 5:45pm and were fortunate enough to find a street parking spot right outside the restaurant. The first thing that caught my eyes as we entered the restaurant was the large menu hanging above the counter. Colorful pictures of their signature dishes were blown up and displayed for everyone to see. We were greeted by a nice Korean woman who seated us at a table closest to the Telegraph Avenue side entrance. The restaurant was pretty clean. A Mexican worker was busy making dumplings at the table next to ours. Interestingly, I noticed there was a plastic bag full of water that was hung right above that entrance. A practical joke for the next person to walk in perhaps? We were all pretty hungry so we got the following: — Poached Dumplings(6 for $ 3.65) — Deep Fried Dumplings(4 for $ 3.65) — Extra Spicy Jjampong($ 7.95) — Jeng Ban Jajang($ 10.95) — Jjampong JaJang Combo($ 7.35) The dumplings came first. Both types were filled with a pork filling. I found the poached ones to be quite ordinary. They were smaller compared to the others I have had before. The deep fried ones were a lot better. They were plump and fried to perfection. We should have ordered more of that instead. The Extra Spicy Jjampong, aka the cauldron of death, was the first noodle dish to arrive. The soup, which had a dark burnt orange color, was topped with whole dry red chillies and sliced jalapenos. I have an iron stomach but that was too spicy even for me! But that’s my fault for ordering it so there’s no one to blame but me. The noodles were less chewy than I thought it would be. That led me to believe that the noodles were commercially made. The seafood(octopus, shrimp, and mussels) and vegetables were decent. The portion was very generous. Overall, it was pretty good. The Jeng Ban Jajang, which was a stir-fried noodles with jajang(black bean sauce), diced pork and seafood, and vegetables, was well done. I thought the taste of the jajang would cover everything but surprisingly I could taste every ingredient separately. That and the double servings easily made this dish the star of the night. I didn’t try the Jjampong Jajang Combo. But I did like the half and half combo idea. The service was quite good. The lone Korean lady was very polite and checked on us multiple times to refill our water and pickled radish. Overall, the meal was quite enjoyable. It was a case of good, cheap, and lots of it. If you like good food and good value, this is a place for you. I will go back again.

This is the place to go for cheap Korean noodles, especially if you are craving jajangmyun. The portions are also huge. Unilocal says that this place is Chinese/Korean, but I think this place is more Korean. It’s probably only labelled Chinese because Jajangmyun is also a Chinese dish. The attraction of the place is probably because they have the ja jang myun-jam pong combo, attracting those who are indecisive or have never tried either dishes(#3). They also have a large ja jang myun that can feed two! I ordered the ja ja myun-jam pong combo. The jam pong was so spicy that you couldn’t taste the flavor of the broth or whatever was in the jam pong. The ja ja myun was good, but there were so many noodles that I got sick of the dish easily. The food was also really salty. Overall, you get what you pay for, and in this case, it’s a lot of noodles and okay sauce. We also got the Tang Sue Yuk, which is pineapple-flavored pork/beef. Overall, not very memorable and I wish that there was more sauce. We also got the fried dumplings, which were worth getting. The service isn’t the best. Since the food was really salty, my friend finished her water really quickly. However, we spent FOREVER trying to get the waiter’s attention, and by the time we got her attention, we already finished our food. Overall, the food wasn’t very memorable, but it is pretty cheap.
