Love this place. I have been coming here for years and have never been dissapointed. They have the best Mongolian Beef and the Hot Braised Fish is also very tasty if you love spicy food. The staff is always friendly and makes you feel welcomed.

Really solid Chinese food and very friendly service. Mu-shu chicken was great, really tasty fried rice, and delicious wonton soup. I’m sick rt now so I definitely appreciate the option. Thanks Hunan Village, I shall return!!! ;-)

The food is good. But the restaurant itself has the opposite of feng shui. the atmosphere is not there. if you buy food there get it take-out only.

Average food. Chewy beef in Mongolian beef but good flavor. Very fast service, reasonably priced. I wish they had cups of soup for cheaper, you can’t get soup unless you pay $ 7 something for a full entrée size, I find that silly. I will probably be back but for take-out, ambiance of the restaurant needs a lot of work. Also wondering why their menu online is cheaper than dine-in?

I was short on time, but hungry for lunch. This was the perfect spot — well lit by natural light and the waitress was exceptionally efficient! I had the lunch plate with chowmein and black bean chicken. It was flavorful and plentiful… Even came with an egg roll. I got to my next appointment on time feeling full and satisfied.

Justine: I’m sorry you were apparently offended by my review. Thank you for educating me on your role. We did in fact ask for tea and water when we were seated but still waited quite a long time for it.

I might be addicted to their Peking Chicken. The perfect amount of crispy and chewy and not too spicy. Yummmm!

Came in during lunch hours on a Friday. There was about two other parties there. We sat and the waiter service us tea and water right away. We ordered our plates from the lunch section. It was about 6.99 for a item with rice and soup. I ordered the beef broccoli which was really good. We also ordered fried prawn which we devoured! Would recommend to someone if they in that area looking for a bite it eat.

I ran across this Hunan restaurant while walking back to the car from brunch in the morning… The words«Mongolian Lamb» jumped out at me on the posted sandwich board just outside the restaurant’s door. I thought, «Interesting… I’ll have to comeback some time and get that lamb». The restaurant is located on the busy street a couple doors down from the Grand Lake movie theatre and is not hard to miss. Little did I know the opportunity to try the lamb would come knocking that very evening after watching a movie nearby. Walking into the brightly-lit, clean-cut decorated dining room, we received a warm welcome from the staff. Being one of the first people be there we had our pick of the tables. Tasty?: The food was really great. Plates were delivered to the table in «next to no time». That Mongolian Lamb was very tasty as I had imagined it to be, as was the Sesame Chicken we also ordered. Long story short the plates were all cleaned by the time we were done. Even though I was satisfied I could help looking at the orders of the other patrons and was a bit envious of what they were having! Good times great food! Bang-for-the-Buck: Definitely worth the money for the quality and quantity delivered. Definitely a great spot to check out the next time you crave Hunan Chinese Food! You should eat here!

Good food, good service, very reasonable price. There’s nothing surprising on the menu, and no surprises at the table. The food was well prepared, well presented, and the service was very good, without being obtrusive. A family owned restaurant that will become a regular stop.

Been going to Hunan for years even before the renovation! It’s a great family-run place with a huge selection of traditional Chinese dishes that never fail — though being honest my favorite dish may not be the most traditional. I get the dry fried wings every time. No other place can do it like Hunan. I’ll even order things wings for get togethers or potlucks and try to pawn them off as my own. Otherwise, they run under the radar as a great Chinese restaurant option in Oakland that many don’t(yet) know about it. The service is great, the food is fresh, the prices are fair, and I’ve gotten to know the family over time, which is always a perk for loyal customers. Also, did I mention I love the chicken wings? Get the wings. The end.

Craving for some good Chinese food by the lake? Well look no further! This place has recently been remolded inside and is truly beautiful! I came during the evening and it wasn’t crowded. I was seated right away and greeted very nicely by the lovely young lady. This is a small restaurant owned by family. Mother and daughter you will usually see out in the front greeted people and taking orders. There are so many good things on the menu! Great reasonable pricing and good portions to feed 2 people. I ordered: The Green Beans with Chicken– Very good! 5\5 Prawns Chow Fun– Didnt have any taste to me… 2⁄5 Pot stickers– OMG! Deliciously good! I was truly surprised and VERY fresh and HOT… 5\5 Hot and sour Soup– Yummy! Piping hot and very tasty! Everything was made piping hot and fresh! Customer service was amazing. The prices are all under $ 15, you cant beat that! If your looking for good Chinese food, good pricing and amazing customer service… then you have definitely found your place. I will definitely be back to try more of there delicious food on the menu!

My first time here. The food was Okay and the customer service was below average. No fill ups on water until asked. No asking if we needed anything. The place was extremely hot and no air conditioning. What really made the evening worse we had a coupon we purchased online for a $ 15 discount off entire bill, The owner of the restraunt was completely emotional and disrespect in raising his voice about the coupon how it wasn’t valid in his restaurant. Making a big scene in front of his customers while he was servicing us. Raising his voice in front of his customers is completely unprofessional. what makes matters worse he completely comped the man next to us for a free dinner. No stars, no tip, no coming back…

This was my first time here and I came here to meet a blind date! We went on a Wednesday afternoon and I was the first one there. I walked in and asked for a table for two! The greeter was extremely friendly as she sat me down! She brought me out waters as I sat there waiting! Once my date arrived the waitress came to take our orders we ordered food off of the lunch menu! I forget exactly what we ate but it was delicious!!! I would highly recommend coming here to anyone!

I’ve been here once, but that first trip was enough for me to write a review.(Besides, I’m going there for lunch today anyways) :p I have to say the beef & broccoli was to DIEFOR. Well you won’t die for it, but it was sooo delicious. I loved how the broccoli had a perfect crunch to it. I’m not a fan of broccoli that is completely soft and gets soggy. This broccoli had flavor and was crunchy and perfect for me. The steamed rice was excellent as well and I love that for your to go plate they provide with you with sliced, juicy oranges. oh yes! Big fan of that, especially after I completely slaughtered my whole plate. Just thinking of going back to try more items is truly making my mouth water and my stomach growl. I’ll be a happy camper around 12pm.

I have been in Oakland for well over a year now, but had yet to try any Chinese around the area until last week. Last week I had a chow mein and pot sticker craving, so I decided to pick something up on the way home from a long day at work. I knew that there were a few chinese restaurants I had seen in passing around the theater, so I parked in the lot and Unilocaled restaurants around the area. I saw that this place had decent reviews and low prices so I gave it a chance. Overall I’d say my experience was decent. Not the best chinese I’ve had, but it was okay. Just a little more pricey than I thought it should be. They are totally taking advantage of their location(practically next door to the theater). I ordered potstickers, chicken chow mein, and general’s chicken. The potstickers were okay, but they were a little different. They tasted a little funny or even had a bit of an aftertaste. The waitress did tell me that I would have to wait 15 minutes for them, which was okay with me because that told me that they are making them homemade and fresh. However, the meat had a weird consistency inside, almost as if they were not completely cooked inside. Weird. The chow mein was also pretty unique. The noodles were 3X’s the size of an average chow mein egg noodle and I am not even exaggerating. If I wanted to exaggerate I could say 4 or 5x’s more, but they were literally 3X’s the size of an average noodle. The chow mein was generally pretty good because I could taste each component individually. Usually I worry about too many mug beans, or something, but there was actually a perfect balance of ingredients which rendered a pretty great taste. I was able to taste the quality of each ingredient because there was not too much sauce. The score is not complete fair considering this was my first time and it was take out. For a fair assessment of this place I’m sure I have to sit down as a guest in the restaurant. For that reason, this review is probably going to be amended in the coming months. We’ll see if it’s any different in house vs. take out.

My chinese restaurant. My kids. My car. My this. My that. Mine. Mine. Mine! It’s funny but i do have a sense of ownership when it comes to the places I often patronize. I really like it here for the food and especially for the customer service. We have a go-to list of items we order: 1) House fried rice — if you look around 90% of diners order this item. It’s really good and it comes with beef, chicken, shrimp, veggies and egg. 2) Salt and Pepper(Prawn and/or chicken wings) — yes, it’s not authentic chinese but its really good. 3) Pork and spicy eggplant– I love love this dish! Spicy with a hint of sweetness. I request for no bamboo shoots. 4) Beef with string beans — o goodness. Cooked al dente with great aromatic flavors. What I love the most about Hunan — their valet service! Call ahead to order, call when your out front and they will finish any transactions from the convenience of your whip. or Dine in, stay and chat. Enjoy :)
