This market sells fresh vegetables and fresh meat and is always crowded. I requested 2 lbs of Pork Belly and the butcher picked a piece and it weighed at 2.5 lbs. It looked like a lot so I asked if he could cut it in half for me, he said NO. So I said OK, no problem, I’ll take it but can you slice it for me, he said NO. Man, I thought a butcher would be ok with slicing meat? I guess not. I decided to go to another place down the block and they were more than happy to accommodate my request to slice the pork belly.

Hop Lung Meat Mart is between the newspaper guy and yung kee(on the corner). this is the shop that has all it’s veggies/fruits on the sidewalk. attractions: –prebagged chinese stalk veggies –freshly cut pork –fresh poulrty and previously frozen seafood items –spices, bottled condiments and sauces buys: –usually a bag or 2 of prepakaged veggies(me impatient, bad eye for good veggie) bagged veggies usually a tad higher but seldom get bad veggies. –just grab, pay, and go.

This market is right next to Yung Kee Restaurant in China Town. While this market sells some fresh veggies, they are know to sell chicken, duck, goose, and other meats. I come here when I want to find items like duck feet, chicken parts, and other animal parts for Asian dishes. Their general meat seletion is good and they keep it pretty fresh. The only down side is that it’s awfully small and of course parking around here can be challenging.
