I’m sure, if you’re reading this, you are or were recently searching for a rental home in the Bay Area. I feel your pain. When we found Gravestock & Recht, we were totally disheartened by our search for a place that was in a decent neighborhood, reasonably appointed, not too expensive (it’s relative!), and that allowed our two cats.
We’re in a first floor 1-​bed on Central in Alameda, and it is no stretch to say we LOVE it. Gravestock & Recht made the whole process super easy. Don and Maria are very helpful, and also the sort of landlords who you don’t hear from unless you need to (which is just how I like it!). Three months in, we haven’t had any major issues– but I’m confident they would be handled swiftly if we did.

Don and Maria are two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in my search for a home in the Bay Area. I applied for apartments from San Rafael all the way to San Francisco and beyond, and nobody was as nice and genuine as Maria. They offered me an apartment and were warm, sincere, and genuinely cared about my well being, and the well-​being of all tenants. I dealt exclusively with Maria and I can’t say enough good things about her. She is amazing!

I met Don and Maria in January 2011. Don showed me a listing in Alameda. He was very genuine, knowledgeable, and truly cared about both the property and the folks living in it. I desperately needed an apartment to live in as I had just relocated back to the Bay Area and started work in a week. I fell in love with the property and Don leased it to me on the spot. I followed up with paperwork, payment and deposit the next day with his business partner, Maria Recht. The entire time I lived at the property, I enjoyed both Don and Maria as my landlords. If a repair was needed, they contacted the repairman and got it fixed. The toilet and tub clogged due to the restaurants below and they negotiated the professional roto-​rooting with the restaurant below to fix the problem. When the toilet literally cracked at the base and began slowly leaking (just old age — it was a fully restored/​rehabbed and upgraded vintage apartment), they had it professionally replaced in a timely manner with a brand new water efficient (but working!) toilet. They were responsive landlords (property managers, really). When I had to move for another job out of state in 2012, I thoroughly cleaned the apartment and they returned my full deposit by mail to my new address within a week of move-​out. I highly recommend Don and Maria as property managers /​landlords and hope to rent from them again one day.
