Looks can be deceiving. Little markets can be treacherous. Bread and peanut butter can be wildly overpriced. There’s bread from here sitting at work because I keep forgetting to bring it home because I forgot it at Traci J.‘s apartment and she had to bring it all the way to Berkeley on a bike in the rain. She also snuck some phở into the Warfield, the same night I unknowingly snuck some yogurt-covered pretzels into the Warfield. I understand how they missed Traci J.‘s phở – they didn’t even check her bag – but how on earth did they miss my yogurt-covered pretzels? Billy Corgan’s still got it, although the crowd made me much sadder than the music itself. The guy working the counter when I patronized Grand Express was nicer than I thought he would be. He was elevator-eying the woman who paid for her stuff before I did. I more than half-expected him to make a comment to me after she had jingled through the front doors, but he kept his mouth shut, although his eyes continued to wander. In that moment, I wondered whether civility and politeness had made a comeback. And then I thought maybe he didn’t say anything to me because he didn’t think we had anything in common. And then I longed for the death of civility and politeness just so that male solidarity could make an appearance, if only briefly. My order from Enssaro across the street was probably ready, so I ducked out of here and waited dutifully at the out-of-the-way crosswalk because, man, Grand Avenue’s an easy place to get run over.

Consider asking for a receipt and not using cards to pay here…(Well except you might not feel comfortable pulling out cash either.!) I watched the guy at the register quickly ring me up for three bottle deposits on two cans while doing everything else slower than molasses. I clocked it but didn’t say anything or ask for a receipt– Open super late so, a lot of sketchy behavior all around.

My local corner store(walking distance), but I’m too lazy for all that lol. Here you can find liquor a variety of wines, frozen food, lotto, hot coffee, house hold items etc… great friendly customer service every time. It seems to never close lol, but I think they do around 1am?

Open all night! Get a cheap 6-er and a blunt wrap, or maybe just some candy. They got an ATM and lotto if you need it in a pinch. This place is reliable, sketchy, and convenient: all of the things a convenience store should be! Seriously, be careful at night. It’s not a bad neighborhood, but it’s also like the IDEAL spot to mug yuppies. like, seriously, it’s PERFECT. My 3rd-favorite convenience store in Oakland!

Typical convenience store. However, I must say I am 2⁄2 on walking in during a religious debate; kind of interesting.

I like that the owner smells of beer during the morning, day, and night. It makes me want to buy alcohol. I don’t like that on multiple occasions, i have had to shoo off the night life from my car.

This place has a new owner and is so money hungry, and rude!!! I bought a bottle of wine on Sunday, and it was a bad bottle. Took one sip and brought it back to exchange. Well, this @****** scares his employees by threatening to fire them. Really??? I’ve been a loyal customer for seven years and love the employees… just hate the owner. He actually told me that because I opened it, he won’t exchange it nor give me my money. He told me I have to contact the wine distributor to return it. Are you kidding me??? Not to mention the bottle cost me over 13 bucks! I will NEVEREVERGOBACKTHERE. I HOPEHEGOESOUTOFBUSINESS!!! Bad business equals community boycots!!!

It’s a liquor store. They have liquor, ice, and stuff that you might want to grab to go along with the ice and drinks. The people outside are just people like anybody else. It’s such a convenient skip-hop-and-a-jump away that people won’t notice that you’ve popped off to pick up something if you happen to be(or live) nearby.

I like the store and the people who work there. Does it have a «grand» slection — no. Is there anything outstanding about it — no. Its just a comfortable, friendly neighborhood store to go to. I miss Sonny and his brother — I can’t figure out why people keep disappearing, but whoever works there is pretty cool. They do have some shady characters at times — but they also have police coming there, so it’s pretty balanced. They could do something about the homeless and crackheads sitting right in front asking for change, but the place is okay.

Will you die here? Probably not. Will you, at least once, wonder whether the guy standing next to you at the counter is packin’ heat? Oh yeah. Great place for all your late-night needs in the Adam’s Point ‘hood. Sure, it ain’t no 7 – 11, but hell… it’s 1:00 am and you’re drunk and hungry. Does it really matter anyway?

Every neighborhood has two«corner stores» one that’s got the goods and one that’s open late. This is the«open late» store for Adams Point /Grand Ave. If you want a wider variety try the market on the corner of Grand & Perkins just ½ block away… but that closes by 9:00 most days. After that this is your best bet. They have a decent variety of snack food and necessaties but are way short on actual groceries. They do have both Haagen Daaz and Ben & Jerrys, a wide selection of liquor and beer, frozen burritos, etc., etc. They also have a parking lot… thing is when you really need to use it is during the time the other market is open.
