Visited the Doc’s food truck in SF. Had the fried chicken sandwich. Wasn’t a fan at all. There was waaaay to much slaw on the burger, which drowned out the taste of the chicken. I tried the chicken on its own, and didn’t like the taste. Too«herby»(yes, I just made up that word…). There was also some kind of spread on the bread(sour cream maybe?, not sure…). The flavors just didn’t go well together for me. I’ll give 2 stars for the service being good though. Very friendly crew working the truck.

Doc’s classic catered our wedding reception and I have to say we had such an amazing experience! Our guests could not stop telling us how wonderful the food was. They offered their chicken sandwich, beef burger, and black bean burger. They also had two sides for our guests to choose from. They were punctual, professional, super nice to our guests and kept everyone happy! They also were quick to email back when I had questions, communicated with the venue, and made it easy for us to enjoy our day! I would not hesitate recommending Doc’s to anyone throwing a party! You will not be disappointed.

This is a total secret vegan food truck find, and they have – hands down – the best black bean burger I’ve had so far in SF/OAK. Bold statement, but I so mean it. I found them at the Oakland Museum of California’s Friday party. What’s particularly distinctive about Doc’s is that they make their own ketchup(! nom !), and have excellent quality overall and their burger is really tasty and offset by the crunchiness of the red cabbage. The more I’ve had sub-par, mushy vegan burgers at other places, the more this one stands out to me. Skip the other guys. Just get in line, you’ll be happy.

3.5 stars: The burger is just average! I really wanted to love this place. But yeah… very average burger. Not much flavor, it is not bad, but it doesn’t stick out as anything special especially for what I paid. The thing I liked were the fries and homemade ketchup, but again compared to all the other amazing places… it is just average. I’ve been twice. Would I go again? Probably, but only if there wasn’t a better food truck around. I tired them twice at Faction Brewing and once at Snow Park in downtown Oakland. I had both the burger and the chicken, fries, and sweet potato wedges.

friendly people working the truck at Faction Brewing yesterday. burgers looked and smelled awesome. the flavor was just Meh though. same with my friend’s fried chicken sando. the fries were overcooked. that made me sad. i did steal some bacon which was tasty but otherwise, i can’t say i’d get anything from them again.

Dropped by late after the lunch rush on a weekday. Found Doc’s approximately at 2nd and Webster, and was super peckish due to the lateness of the lunch break. I actually believe we got there a little bit after they were supposed to be closing. Anywhoo I went with the patty melt and macho fries, while my partner in crime went for the veg burger. Ordering was seamless, and we were served with a hunger satisfying quickness. The fries were a sticky messy cheesy greasy batch of goodness. If that’s your order load up on napkins, and plan on getting to a place to wash your hands before returning to work. The patty melt had more vegetables on it then I expected. A typical patty melt isn’t long on veg typically consisting of bread, perhaps a little bit of onions and meat. Doc’s take on the patty melt adds fresh pickles(the american version, not south Indian style), a large slice of tomato and lettuce. So if you want the carnivore experience specify when you order, otherwise it made an excellent, fresh patty melt. I liked it. The crisp sharp pickle and the citrus of the tomato matched the hot firm texture of the meat perfectly. Add some melted cheese and a small amount of zesty smoothness from the sauce with crisp lettuce and toasted bread. That’s about as close to perfect as you can get in this world. I’m not always big on food trucks. I find some to be pretentious and overpriced for the product served. But Doc’s? Yeah I’m totally eating this again, and I mean as soon as I get the chance. I could see making this a regular thing.

We had a delicious brunch this morning at Doc’s outside of blue bottle coffee on 3rd and Webster. Cornmeal pancakes with blueberry-lavender compote and homemade ricotta cheese, and perfectly cooked latkes with crème fraîche and salmon. SOYUMMY!

I had Doc’s last night at Prizefighter in Emeryville. It was so good! I had a patty melt and shared some of the ‘Macho Fries’ with my wife. The fries were totally out of control good: crema, caramelized onions, and amazing pimento cheese. Like In ‘n Out’s animal style fries, but homemade and about 10x better. The patty melt was also excellent. While the bread could have been a bit more toasted, the ingredients were extremely high quality and the flavor was awesome. The combination of the melted cheese and the crisp pickles set off the juicy burger in the most excellent and desirable way. And the pairing with a Fieldwork beer at Prizefighter really pushed the whole meal over the top. A+, would snack on again.

This is my favorite food truck, ever. I most recently ate here tonight, when they were parked outside of prizefighter bar in Emeryville. The service was friendly and fast and the food – so so good. We got a large macho fry, which is their already awesome fries topped with grilled onion and pimento cheese, dipped in their homemade(!) ketchup. I also had their classic black bean burger. I’ve had it a few times before and it’s always perfection – crispy but soft bean patty topped with a delish coleslaw. All in all– go here! Love love it!

I expected docs to be another overpriced mediocre burger spot in the bay but was VERYPLEASANTLY surprised. Not only was the burger phenomenal but the service was incredible! I especially love the seasoning on the fries and am obsessed with their homemade ketchup! It is crazy good! I was super impressed by how quickly my food came out even with it being so busy! Besides that everyone on the truck was extremely friendly, and cheerful. Overall a wonderful experience at docs!

As someone who doesn’t eat meat much, I fully endorse these burgers! Quality ingredients every time I’ve eaten here, and the portions are right, so you don’t feel like you just swallowed 9 pounds of lead afterwards. When I’m not feeling meat, the black bean burger is one of the best I’ve had. Homemade ketchup is more like a chutney you’d get with high-end gastropub grub. Green beans are unique and excellent. Buns are top notch. If they are serving the fried chicken, I can’t recommend it enough – perfectly fried and juicy. Staff is typically friendly, and will accommodate your preferences. This truck is on its game.

Green beans I was served still had their stems attached and pieces of vine in there(making me wonder if they were washed…) and were going bad. I could see where they were rotting out as if cooking and seasoning them would make it not noticeable. Also had chicken sandwich, it was good chicken but no sauce so it was dry. I would like to add however that their salted chocolate chip cookie was absolutely delicious. Best cookie I’ve gotten from a food truck yet.

If I could give 2.5 I would. It’s not quite a 2 but definitely not a 3. Ordered: Chicken Sandwich and Fries Fries: Really good fries. I really liked the seasoning and that they didn’t rely heavily on salt in that seasoning Chicken Sandwich: Ironically the lack of salt or flavor is what ruined this for me. –Bread: This was good bread keep using whoever provides this bread –Spread: None that I could tell –Chicken: Cooked Perfectly. Seasoned… barely. Just the smallest pinch of salt is all that’s needed to bring out the flavor guys. –Slaw: It was fresh… and completely tasteless. It literally tasted like you slapped some chopped, unseasoned cabbage onto my sandwich. Seriously, little bit of seasoning, some vinegar or citrus juice… literally anything could have made this better. I am in no way saying you need to dump mayo in there. I am all for slaw with no heavy binding agents, but season it please. Overall: The bread was plain with no spread that I could tell, there was plain lettuce, under-seasoned(but cooked perfectly, gotta give credit again there) chicken, and plain slaw. Notice how often I used the word plain… I shouldn’t have to use the word plain that much to describe a 12 $ sandwich and fries + tip

Super tasty burger, and yes, loved the ketchup. Fries were on point. Chicken sandwich was a bit dry and flavorless, despite the slaw and«fennel crust.» A solid option, but a little hit or miss on «YUM» or «just okay» options. Perhaps Bakesale Betty has just ruined me for all other fried chicken and slaw sandwiches?

I didn’t know much about Doc’s until I saw it at the Berkeley Kite Festival, so I decided to give it a try. The classic burger and ketchup were my choices and it was a great choice!!! Price is within the range of higher quality food and the service was good, but a few people were a head of me. but waiting is expected.

Don’t you just love when you end up actually making a good choice after debating what to get at a food truck event?! Well I sure do! I tried Docs of the Bay at SoMa street food park last night and after having a really rough day at work and dealing with ridiculous Caltrain delay, all I wanted some good food and a much deserved cheat day. I hadn’t seen Docs food truck before so I was pretty excited bc nothing makes me happier than trying new food and places! The menu wasnt overwhelming which is always a big plus for me and my indecisiveness. I absolutely love good veggie burger so was sold when I saw they had a black bean burger. I debated a bit about getting fries and didnt but will def try them next time. One of their fry options were sold out so they must be good! I wish I got the guys name who was helping me bc he was very friendly! I saw after I already ordered that they recommend adding caramelized onions to the black bean burger, I told the guy helping me and he made it happen! The black bean burger was delish, i love the cabbage it comes with and their housemade ketchup is the best! Needless to say I was one happy girl after my dinner +)

Burgers are juicy and may be a tad too oily for some, so be warned. But I’ve had the Chicken Sandie, Doc’s Classic and the Double Whammy. You can’t go wrong with their burgers and I think the green beans were too oily to be considered as a healthy alternative. Even with the long lines and wait time, I think the burger and their own original ketchup is worth it. Try their ketchup!

The homemade ketchup is good. The ingredients taste fresh. The bun seems a tad greasy. The line was quite long. I saw someone get the chicken on cole slaw, which looked interesting. I might try that in future. I’d eat here again, but it’s not a must-go destination.

I need to come back to this food truck before I’m comfortable with this rating. But I had the Chicken Sandie(Chicken Club) style and it was pretty decent. Though the price for this style wasn’t justified in my mind. Anyway, the bread is soft and has good form. And the chicken itself is not some greasy piece of fried chicken. It was well executed and tender. But I was left wanting more… I’ll get the fries next time to see if the four stars hold up.

Doc’s catered my wedding reception in San Francisco and they were a hit! Guests were all super-satisfied with the sandwich options. I personally love the burger, the chicken sando, and their fries and homemade ketchup. The truck is handsome(just got a face-lift) and the folks working inside it are charming and friendly. Good, honest people. Also, customer service while booking and planning couldn’t be better. Doc’s rocks my socks off! Thanks!

I have yet to experience their food but however, I have experienced their outstanding customer service. Long story short, I was looking for a food truck for my best buddies birthday party. Came across Gabi from Doc. It turned out that they were booked solid that day(surprise, surprise). She made a conscious effort to suggest other options and even offered up a small token of appreciation for calling(gift card). By all means, she did not have to do that but went the extra mile to keep her customers(or potential customers) happy. If the service at the restaurant is half of what i experienced over the phone/email, Doc will be my #1 place for burgers!

I’m tempted to downgrade my rating because I’m questioning the value for the money. I just had a double burger with bacon and while it was very good(fresh, tasty tomato and lettuce topped it off), I really don’t think it was worth the $ 13+ they charged me for it. It came with a side of house ketchup, which I didn’t need because the burger is already very juicy. I know there are some costs involved with operating a roving restaurant, but it’s nothing like the cost of operating one that takes up significantly more real estate 24⁄7 and so I’m calling foul on the base price($ 11.50) being charged for the double burger. I note from another Unilocaler’s review that the double price a little over a year ago was $ 9.50. To confirm my belief, I checked the price of a comparable burger from a restaurant 1 block away from the location where Doc’s was parked and their burger was $ 13.95 but it comes with fries, a real plate and table service. This restaurant is located at Pier 39, which isn’t exactly cheap real estate. On the other side of town, I occasionally visit a burger joint that makes amazing burgers and a comparable(double) burger with bacon is well under $ 10 including tax. I feel like I was taken for a ride. Maybe I should ask for a ride to where I need to go to get my money’s worth?

Veg heads, go for that black bean burger! So good, there’s a chance I will fall victim to legume induced kidney failure. I’m gonna order that thannng every day! So why four stars? Well it’s because of two things #1 the patty falls apart very easily which makes it difficult to eat and #2 given it’s a bean based patty it’s very important to make certain there are sufficient accompaniments to make it moist(ie the bun needs more sauce). The latter is fixable with a simple request to get some extra sauce love. The former, well, I have to give it some thought… something to make it «bind» better. When I figure it out, I will pass the idea along to the oh-so-awesome staff with the contagious smiles. They’re sooooo sweet!

My work had a big student meet-up at SOMA StrEat Food Park and we got tons of their string beans and fries. These were a good appetizer to share, and they were popular! * String Beans & Fries — 4 stars pic: These were nicely spiced. The dip/sauce was thick and very good. The fries are on the softer side, with a thin crisp, but I like that type. The string beans were very fresh and crunchy too. I like that having veggies with the fries makes it feel somewhat more healthy, too.

I feel bad for writing this because I’ve heard good reviews about this place and the guy serving me was so, so incredibly nice for giving me a free drink(thank you!) However, this place just didn’t do it for me, but it wasn’t all bad… so here’s the low-down: PROS: –Good fries(not out-of-this-world, but more great than bad) –Awesome homemade ketchup!!! –They have a healthier alternative to fries… green beans! And if you’re like me and like both healthy and indulgent foods, you can get a side with both green beans and fries in what they call«double whammy».(The green beans were okay, not really my favorite kind of seasoning but other people may like it more than me… I’m a garlic green beans type of girl). CONS: –The black bean burger patty was really mushy, not very savory and was falling apart from the beginning(must have been an off night because people in the reviews seem to love the bean burger and it was recommended by a friend)…guess I should’ve gone with the beef burger! –Seasoning on the fries and beans. Maybe I’m just weird, but I wasn’t a huge fan of it… I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I’m willing to return for the beef burger since it’s comes highly recommended… so I might be back and when I am, I’ll be sure to give an update! :)

The best part of the meal was probably the french fries. They had some sort of spice seasoning mix on them and were thin cut. They were pretty tasty and I’d have them again. I didn’t care for the ketchup that came with it. It tasted like a blend of Tobasco and tomatoes. Just eh. I had the fried chicken sandwich and Boyfriend had the burger sans pickles. The fried chicken sandwich was the poor man’s version of the Architect’s Kitchen fried chicken sandwich(RIP Arki’s). The fennel crust and jalepeno aioli should’ve been delicious, but I could barely taste either. The chicken breast looked like it it had been pounded down to a patty almost and was very bland flavor-wise and texturally. All I could really taste the whole time was the dill in the coleslaw. Not a fan. The burger was reminiscent of a fast food burger. Thin, overcooked patty and american cheese with special sauce. The lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes were ripe, but beyond that there wasn’t much of difference from a Carl’s Jr. burger. Service was friendly and food was quick, but honestly, I won’t be looking for this truck again.

I want to write reviews about exceptional places. Bad places allow us to let out built-up steam and maybe write a whimsical ironical review, which frequently results in a funny review. Good places allow us to re-experience all the feelings that gave the reason to polish off the five star badge of honor. Mediocre places just do not offer any excitement. Yes, they are OK enough to not be offensive, but then again there are hundreds of other places out there which serve food so similar, that I could not tell it apart with my eyes closed. Speaking of mediocre places, I have had a Chicken Sandi and guess what… it was pretty average. The bun was dry and tasteless, the coleslaw was bland beyond bland and I personally am not a fan of the fennel in the batter. It just overpowers the whole chicken which was cooked to perfection(if perfection includes chicken being dry enough to choke on it). There you have it. Average burger, a bit on the bland side.

I had the fried chicken sandwich with the burger fixings because… well it was all they had left. It was still pretty decent but I’ve been told that the standard version is much better. Strangely enough the best part was the ketchup. I’m kind of really in to ketchup. I know that sounds weird because it probably is but as popeye would say — I YAMWHAT I YAM. Anyways, it reminds me of a ketchup, catsup actually that I had once called«Henry’s Catsup» that I’ve been looking for everywhere to no avail. So what I’m trying to say is it sucks they didn’t have fries. But supposedly they’ll be out in front of the kingfisher every tuesday so I think I’ll have other chances to fully sample their wares.

Not too shabby, Docs. Quick service, really tasty burger and green bean fries. Their ketchup is def. not the norm and I kinda like that. The fact that they offer something besides potato as a side automatically earns them a well-deserved star. My burger was juicy, fresh and beautifully presented. The one thing I would warn is that the sauce they use on the burgers contains a bit of horseradish. For the norm I think this is OK — I just happen to have a strong aversion to it. Nonetheless, it wasn’t so overpowering that it ruined my sandwich. This is just a friendly heads up to anyone with the same preference. I will definitely be back to Docs! So bomb.
