This place is amazing! Extremely authentic pupusas, hand-made fresh. I recommend the chicken, cheese and beans. Very friendly service and comes with all the fixin’s. Also highly recommend the platanos con lechera. First time having it and it is an amazing end of meal dessert. Will be back.

I’m overlooking the inept cashier. My total came to $ 13.08. I gave her a $ 20 and a dime. For change she first gives me 92 cents and $ 11. Then she takes back the ten and gives me a five. I try several times to remind her I gave her a dime. She calls over someone else and I finally get the correct change and she acts like I was trying to pull something not apologizing for being wrong. Never mind all that though. The food is good. In a sea of many restaurants offering very generic Mexican food Platanos Café stands out. They offer tradition Mexican fare but also feature Salvadorean specialties. I had the platanos with crema — they are served with red beans. I also had two rice pupusas with cheese and locro. The were served with a mild salsa and delicious curtido in a big crock. All wonderful. I also tried the liquado de nopales. I loved that they had it but it was great tasting. Next time I’ll see if they can mix it with piña.

I was looking for some really good pupusas and that is exactly what I found. The service was like any service should be, polite and enthusiastic. When we got there we were first in line and attended quickly. After a few minutes we were served the pupusas, salsa and a generous amount of the traditional pickled cabbage mix. Aside from this they had their own salsa bar with a lot of variety. The pupusas were hot, very cheesy and tasted authentic. After the pupusas we went outside and bought a mangoneada. It was delicious! The overall experience was pleasant. We will definitely be returning for the pupusas.

I walked in with the impression that it will be just as beautiful as the one in Berkeley on University Ave. Unfortunately inside the restaurant it wasn’t that nice and deluxe but the food was great though. I loved the Pupilas they had and I think they might be the best in the area. Definitely the best place in the Fruitvale area for authentic Salvadoran food. I wish I had known about it before as it is very close to my house. The only really down side to it though is that it took quite a while to have the food ready and there was very little distraction or chips in the mean time other than a tv playing Spanish novelas. Really good spot for the neighborhood I seriously wish they had better restaurants to compete in the future.

Delicious cheap pupusas. Everything made to order. The place is clean and staff is nice. Menu is in Spanish but some of the employees speak English and translate if you need. I saw a kid get an order of fries smothered in chorizo and cheese. I didn’t see it on the menu so have to find out what that is! The place is on busy International so parking sucks.

I love the food. From the grilled chicken, steak, rice and avacado salad. Everything is delicious. Im not a big fan of pupusas, so I cant really rate that. But I have to say that my coworkers really LOVE them. We get it delivered to our job and they do a great presentation when it comes to the setup. I highly recommend this place. Its Salvadorean food, so if you are in the mood, this is a great place to go to.

I’m already a faithful customer at the Berkeley location, so I was excited to find out they were opening a new location not far from home. Did not know what to expect since I noticed they were also offering Mexican cuisine s well. Went for lunch on a Saturday, and the first thing I noticed was that this location was nothing like Berkeley in appearance. There is no table service and it was very small, kind of a hole in the wall spot if you know what i mean. I was skeptical that the food would taste the same. i went ahead and ordered my usual plantains with beans and sour cream with a pork, bean & cheese pupusa. As I waited at a table for my food my hopes of having the same tasty meal grew as a saw the homemade hot sauce and curtido was the same as the Berkeley location. When my food arrived i was relived it looked and tasted just as good as i remembered. Will be back to get my pupusa fix, but will continue to go to the Berkeley location when I want a sit down meal. A good solid four stars only because of the atmosphere and my doubts on how clean this location is.
