I had the unfortunate encounter of meeting Bindoo Rellan after delivering my baby at Kaiser Oakland. I developed a problem after delivery. I told her and her attendings what was going on. They all said«this is normal.» The nurses who took care of me and did all the work said it wasn’t normal. Bindoo Rellen brushed me off, ignored my questions and became irritated and nasty towards me when I pressed for a further explanation. She never once offered an exam, alternative form of treatment or any sort of follow up. Her bedside manner is appalling, her care and medical skills are subpar. I feel borderline negligent. On my follow up visit w/another doctor and nurse practitioner I was told my problem was«not normal.» Run or waddle fast if you encounter this OBGYN.

Bindoo Rellan is the most gentle, compassionate doctor I have ever been to. She takes time to answer my questions, has never kept me waiting, is always warm and welcoming. I will never switch!

I saw Dr Rellan for pre-natal care twice, and promptly switched doctors. It’s my first pregnancy, and I had some random questions like«is it supposed to be so uncomfortable riding in a bumpy car at 18 weeks?» and questions concerning sharp abdominal pains. Her response to any and all of my questions was, literally, «I just don’t know.» No reassurance, no educating, no investigation. Frankly, she seemed annoyed that I was there at all. Instead, she told me all the answers could be found on the KP website or if I read the newsletters. Pros: she has gentle, skillful soft hands and her physical exams felt more compassionate than our verbal interactions. Bottom line: if you’re someone who wants to form a relationship with your doctor, or if you want to feel comfortable asking questions without receiving patronizing responses, this doctor may not be a good choice for you.

I saw Dr. Rellan for regular appointments twice in two years and liked her very much. She had a warm demeanor, and was perfectly fine as long as everything was fine with me. However, as soon as I developed a medical problem, I realized she was not a good doctor. I would not recommend her now. When I informed Dr. Rellan of what was going on with me, she ordered a few tests, which showed nothing wrong. She then counseled me to «wait and see» if things improved, despite the fact that they had not improved over the course of six months. She showed zero interest in actually finding out what was wrong and trying to solve it. Her casual attitude regarding a problem I felt was significant made me feel stupid, which a doctor had never made me feel before. She agreed to refer me to someone else, though it took months for me to get to see another doctor. But within minutes of seeing the next doctor, the problem was identified and I was told I needed surgery. Though it’s not a prospect I’m looking forward to, I am relieved to know the problem is being taken care of.
