I found Bart some 20 years ago. I trusted him to cut off my long locks into a very short cut. I always always always got great compliments on my hair, and the best part was maintenance free. Bart never trys to upsell you with products and new fangled«improvements,» yet he can consistently color, perm style etc with a keen eye and great results. You can’t go wrong with Bart, but then I decided to leave him for budget haircuts. I dunno what was I thinking? Years go by and I’m looking for a new hairdresser. I see someone at the grocery with a nice cut and ask«who cut your hair?» Sure enough it was the best haircutter in town — Bart! With all the hundreds of stylists I get guided back to Bart, and that was a lucky guide. He’s also very personable and fun to be around. I love Bart!

I agree with Angela V., Bart *is* awesome. Day to day, I am a super low-maintenance person(to give you an idea of how low-maintenance, please note that my day job is: dog walker,) so I need a cut that will look good with zero work. But I sometimes rock it on the weekends – this dual-purpose haircut is a challenge that Bart excels at! I did find Bart through a somewhat fancy client who always looks like a million bucks – so he can do fancy hair, too. She’s been getting her hair cut by him for forever – me for at least four years. Bart is super smart and there is no «fake friendly» vibe at his salon – he’s just a down-to-earth, real person, who listens well. He also plays good music.

Bart uses his intelligent imagination for good when he cuts hair. You may have to work to find him or get an appointment but it’s worth it.

I love Bart ! He’s been cutting my hair for more than 10 years and he’s the best. Prices are reasonable, company is terrific, but most important the hair looks great every time. Btw– he has moved down Piedmont Ave a few blocks and now calls his biz S. Todd(which tells you a little something about his sense of humor…), my teenage sons love him too.

Perhaps the greatest hair designer the world has ever seen; think Michelangelo for hair. Bart has it all, style, charisma, and a mean set of clippers. Just be sure you don’t catch him during an off day — it’s more like Edward Scissorhands with one eye(that depth perception thing can be tough!) — so long as you heal quickly, the great personality, wonderful sense of humor, and love of his work, more than make up for the hospital trips and antiseptic dressings… …oh, and did I mention he has an awesome sense of humor?

Bart is AWESOME. Great to talk to and most importantly gives GREATHAIR. Seriously, this man has a way like no other. I have been going to him for about 3 years and I am never disappointed. The cool thing is that he can make your hair dreams come true, listens and is not afraid to make it happen.

Psssssst. He’s above the French Cleaners on Piedmont Ave. now. Same phone #. — — — — — - Bart is like the best kept secret in the Oakland area. He has a room in the back of this cute green Victorian house. I’ve been going to Bart since 2001 and I’ve been very happy with my haircuts and colors/highlights. He’s seen me through many phases(short, medium, long, dark/“intellectual looking,” light/“sun-kissed!”) of what I want with my hair and I must say that I always walk out of there feeling good about myself. I will say, «Bart, make me look like Jennifer Aniston. I want side-sweeping bangs!» «Bart, make me look like Catherine Zeta-Jones from Ocean’s 12!» Of course, he can’t do anything about my face, but my hair always ends up looking like a movie star when I walk out of Bart’s place. He also has great taste in restaurants and cafes. He was talking about Blue Bottle coffee before it was popular! He also told me about Bittersweet café before the Oakland store opened. I turn to Bart for my hair and restaurant needs. Oh, and don’t forget Boo(black cat) who hangs out with Bart. He has his own little kitty tent on the couch. If you are new in the area or you want to try a new hair stylist, call Bart and see if he can squeeze you in. He has become *quite* popular nowadays, the wait is about three weeks! You go, Bart!
