This is in the heart of a picturesque area of Oakland, Jack London Square. The bagels are wonderful. I was delighted that my avocado spread was diced real avocado, not a tub of chemicals. I recommend the everything bagel, I do not recommend smelling my breath after I eat it. So worth it.

Not sure what’s behind the inconsistency since the expansion. Growing pains? But the un-toasted bagels I’ve gotten have been pale and slightly under-baked with a soft bready crust( ) Maybe because they get toasted, the sandwiches have been more successful. The Corned Beef breakfast sandwich( ) had a decent amount of mildly flavored, cured in-house corned beef( ). The smoked white fish sandwich( ). Again, a good amount of fish( ) which had strong smoked flavor that I really enjoyed. Sandwiches come with bagel chips( ) which is a good reuse for any daily leftovers.

Come here almost every morning, love the place and have never had a bad experience. The best breakfast food in Jack London.

I wanted so badly to be excited about this place, based on the reviews. Ok bagel selection– I ignored the fact there were two flies buzzing in the case, as I made my way to the counter. There I was met with the most surly, unfriendly, hipster douche. He repeatedly left the counter while I was ordering to finish up other tasks, with no explanation. In addition to the egregious Customer service, this joint charges $ 3 for an extremely subpar cup of coffee. The fixings for the coffee included artificial sweetener(um-have you heard of cancer Authentic Bagel co?), and no non-dairy options. Those of us who can’t stomach half and half have to drink it black. All in all, a convenient place with potential, but I won’t be back until they clean house. *** Update : 1) Found a hair in my bagel. Disgusting. 2) A friendly«regular» customer outside explained that the rude man at the register is new, and our experience today was not Authentic Bagel’s standard. He also witnessed the hair and suggested we contact the manager. I would give this business another shot, but not with the unprofessional counter dude taking my order. Was the hair placed in the bagel intentionally, or was This a one time occurrence? Sadly, I’ll never really know.

You don’t know how surprised I was to find a bagel that could compare to the bagels on the east. The everything bagel has anise or fennel on it which is quite delicious. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. AND, the chocolate chip cookie is awesome… because they realize you want the chocolate to be well integrated into the cookie… not so little that you only run into a chip every three bites and not so much that it becomes a chocolate cookie. Well done! Finally, very open space with tables where you can work if you so choose.

Authentic Bagel Café isn’t an offshoot of Authentic Bagel. it’s Authentic Bagel exteneded, combined with eats and drinks. Authentic Bagel itself is now a bagel making plant. menu: breakfast bagels, lunch bagels, roast coffee, steep tea, bagels to go, pastries, breakfast, cookies. etc. eats: home made reuben on everything bagel;(8.5) –not so fulfilling, interesting taste, bagels at lunch doesn’t do it for me. maybe a pickle spear would tickle my appetite. sticking with bagels for breakfast. crumbs: –menu on left wall as u enter, no pricing go to counter for pricing on all offerings. –food fresh, etc. just not my preference… 3.5 stars

Time: 12:03pm/63°F cloudy Purpose: A report came in telling me that their café next door is actually open now. No stranger to ABC been here numerous times. Ambiance: Inside new café is a thirdteen seater with two regular tables set up for four. Outside retains the same two mesh black iron tables when they first started. Wall mounted sheet metal counter sits two on high slinky chairs. Actual front counter wide wooden table sits three on mid back cushion seats. Rest of the place light gray/white painted brick design wall, stand alone beverage fridge, display case, uncovered structural beam, utensil station, tri-color waste bins, mixer with grown pottery. Most mixer bowls are use to holf tips or pottery, a creative way to use it. Counter area ipad encase wooden case, DFC espresso machine. Cut out wall arch connects to production area next door. No music, TV or Wi-Fi here BYOE. Staff: Lone guy about late 20s running the counter himself. The usual meet and greet«Hi there» what can I get for you? Explained to me what bagel comes with. Told me there would be extra for any added side. Went ahead put in order and waited for my order. Cleanliness: Grade A, impeccable with no complaints. No mess or fuss here. Customers cleans up after themselves. Eats/Drinks: Turkey fried egg on everything bagel $ 7. Bagel was fresh and soft with embedded seeds all around. Egg was good exactly how a fried egg should be, though prefer a little runny yolk won’t hurt hehehe. Turkey tasted like process premade just slice and warm up. A little salty for my liking. It’s just a bagel loaded with protein. Something that you can make at home. Main Features: Bagels of various types made in house east coast style. Products/Services: Bagels, lox, bagel sandos, spreads, fresh fruits, granola and yogurt, parfait, scones, cookies, seasoning salt, bottle/can beverages(soon). Coffee by Roast Co/tea by Steep. Takes plastic(no minimum). Punch Lines: Zippy service, friendly, knowledgeable, modest price, seats are minimal, simple innovative décor, brick building, locally sourced goods, tasty, made in house. Tradeoffs: Authentic east coast bagels made in west coast with trained/knowledgeable owner and operator(s) on site. Final Thoughts: After months of kickstarter program started. They finally expanded to sit more and offer a much wider menu offering. It’s actually still a bagel production shop, but with expanded side business. So, comes this weekend July 11th, 2015 they will be hosting a grand opening celebration from 9am-3pm. Congrats Ryan!
