Not professional and bad management. People that does not speak English will often got mistreated, even he/she got an interpreter. Alta Bates filed a complaint about an interpreter that helped the patient. One day, a patient came in and checked in at the front desk, then waiting for register. As the time goes by, this patient is more than 30 mins late for the appointment. All other patients that come later than this patient got registered and called in. So, the interpreter asked why and what is going on, no one cares about what this person is saying. The medical staff got ready for this patient a long time ago and had been calling this patient’s name for three times. This poor medical staff had morning sickness running back and forward to check on the patient’s status, asking the front desk, asking the register person, but still the patient is not registered. This silly interpreter went to another register place to ask for help, then she found out, the patient was NEVER checked in. The system indicated this patient is not even here at Alta Bates. The interpreter advocate for the patient because the patient got mistreated. If the patient was not being mistreated, she will never step in. No one care and no one want to help this medical staff and patient. This stupid interpreter wanted to help and finally she brings the attention and got this patient registered but end up a complaint from Alta Bates. If I am the supervisor I would not spend time to complaint anyone, instead I would use the time to coach my staff to make sure it won’t happen again. If you blame others for the mistake that your staff made, then your staff will never changed and continue to have problems. The interpreter didn’t tell the patient to file a complaint is pretty nice already. Even the registration lady said, «it was unacceptable.» The registration lady said she can’t do anything if the patient is not check in. She even understand once the appointment is delay, it will affect the patient and the interpreter. The interpreter has appointments from back to back, once this one got delay the next one will be delay and plus the interpreter can leave once the time is up. If the patient is in the middle of the procedure and the interpreter time is up. Who is going to be responsible for that? The interpreter is preventing this to happen, the medical staff understand and the registration lady understand and agree with the action that the interpreter took, but somehow the supervisor is not understand and filed a complaint on the interpreter. Poor interpreter!!! No one care or step in to help even the patient is waiting for a long time and the medical staff is keep on asking.

The ironic thing is that I Unilocaled hospitals before going. I chose Alta Bates because it had decent reviews, and I took into account the fact that a lot of people are going to have a bad experience at a hospital, and so I disregarded the negative reviews. Here’s my brief story: I went to the ER a day after getting hit by a car because I thought my hand may be broken. When you initially check in, I had a feeling that the nurse wasn’t taking me seriously or just not fully listening(Maybe because I was wearing a jacket and you couldn’t see my bruises?) I was right either way because when the doctor read the report back to me, he said«So ya hurt yer hand? «I had to correct him«So I got HITBY A CAR» And proceeded to show him the cuts&bruises hidden by my clothes. His face showed shock & surprise because no one bothered to write any of that information down. Fast forward, he’s feeling my hand and suggests it’s just a sprain. I insist on getting an Xray, because it’s the soul reason why I went to the hospital. Fast forward again, the Xray I have to convince the Xray technician that it is in fact my Left Hand not my Right Hand that needs an Xray. «But it says here…» — trust me dude, it’s my own goddamn hand I think I know. Wait around some more, «oh, you’re right». No shit. Wait around some more. The results are in. Surprise! I have a fractured hand! Who woulda thought?! So after getting the diagnosis I was after, what are they going to do to help me? Velcro a piece of foam to my arm, tell me to buy some Tylenol at the drug store, and charge me $ 1,000 for an hour of this man’s time. Great! Thanks a lot ! I didn’t mention that I was in a lot of pain at the time, and when I told the doctor that I was having trouble sleeping because, well, my whole body hurt, he suggested buying some Tylenol PM. What is Tylenol funding this place or something? And yes, I was after pain killers. I was in PAIN! DONTWASTEYOURTIMETHEYDONTCAREABOUTYOU

This is the greediest bunch of doctors(hospital) that I have ever dealt with. I have great insurance and I still had to pay an arm and a leg just for an office visit. They might be good doctors, but if they knowingly charge this much money, they should be ashamed. I will never step foot an Alta Bates facility again, because next time I do, I’ll probably have to sell my car to pay for it!

Two words: Free mammograms. This center provides a desperately needed service to low-income women who don’t have enough money to buy private health insurance but aren’t poor enough to get Medi-Cal or county medical assistance. In other words, a lot of us. The staff is kind, compassionate, and treats every patient the same, regardless of how the services are billed. You can always call the Markstein Center for information as to the best way to proceed. You will need a doctor’s referral to get a mammogram. If you are uninsured and can’t afford a doctor, check out the Order of Malta Medical Center in Oakland( ). And don’t forget to thank all the kind medical professionals who care for us even when we can’t pay.
