I should of listened to you Unilocalers. Very small portions. It seemed they get the ginger for free and pay an astronomical amount for the wasabi. I received a dollop the size of a dime. The Unagi was cut in half and the spicey tuna wasn’t exactly spicey. The saki had an off putting flavor to it also. Not sure I’ll be back.

Sushi rolls were fine. It’s a sushi restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It’s way better than the local fast food places around or any of the hotel restaurant.

Was looking thru Unilocal reviews while sitting there. Should have done that before I walked in. Was pretty rough. The second I walked in I wanted to turn around, mom n pop were sitting there no customers, they decided to fire-up the music and get to it, it was like walking into their house and asking them to make me a fishy lunch. Lower grade than even a guy from NV will accept as far as sushi goes, which is strange because CA is so uppity that I figured I was in for a treat.

Food tasted good. However, it was a bit pricey. Service was slow and it took them forever to give us our check. They did refill our waters so that was good.

Low quality food, small portions, and poor service. First of all, my soda was watered down. It was light brown which is pretty weird for a cola. I’ve never experienced that before and it didn’t taste good at all. Second, I ordered unagi which looked good on their picture menu. It came out with two tiny pieces on a large piece of rice and the smallest portion of wasabe I have even seen. It seriously looked like an accidental smear of green stuff. the unagi didn’t taste bad but without a bunch of wasabe it just isn’t the same. And it definitely didn’t match the picture of what I ordered. Finally, I ordered the spicy chicken bowl for my main meal and got a tiny bit of chicken, which didn’t taste bad, mixed in with tons of lettuce and rice. I left the place still hungry…

Not the greatest place… but not the worst either. Came here with my family on Christmas night looking for a decent meal. We ordered a beef(bulgogi) plate, tempura udon, a beef teriyaki bento box, and a salmon teriyaki bento box. The soup was not hot, and the beef tasted like it was cooked days ago. The California rolls that came with the bento boxes looked like they were made by a 2 year old… I’ve never seen sushi rolled that poorly. The salmon teriyaki was the one good item, it tasted freshly prepared and was a decent size. To be fair, it was Christmas and it looked like only two people were working(husband & wife?). Maybe the food quality is normally better??? I would suggest only going here if you REALLY want Japanese or Korean food… for family of 4, you’re looking at $ 60 – 70.

I read all the other reviews and we had an opposite experience. The udon was good with just the right amount of spice. The sushi roll was prepared well. The service was good. I go to Japan often and I know the difference. Of course this isn’t a 5 star Japanese sushi restaurant, but it is still very good for the price and location.

Not good sushi. Their wakame salad was the worst I’ve ever tried. It’s way too sweet… Yuck.

How does this place even stay open? My friend and I were passing through last week and both of us were craving some Japanese food. We decided to give it a shot. It was late afternoon and one other party of two was in there just finishing up their meal when we walked in. We were seated(we seated ourselves actually — the woman owner looked irritated that we picked the table we did). We looked at our menus and then the man owner came over to take our orders. I was excited to see Chicken Katsu on the menu so I ordered it. The man owner kind of barked at me, «No curry!» I didn’t really understand him due to his accent so I asked again. «NOCURRY!» Well, pardon me!(I then needed to look over the dirty menu again since my craving was crushed.) My friend and I both decided we’d just have the teriyaki chicken plate(comes with chicken teriyaki, rice, salad, miso soup). More precisely, it comes with a little thin slab of almost cooked chicken with weak teri-yucky sauce poured on it, a lump of old rice, limp salad, and lukewarm soup. We asked to have the soup heated and the woman owner looked at us as though we had arms growing out of our ears. My friend repeated the request and the woman owner took our bowls by grabbing them with her thumb STICKINGINSIDETHEBOWLTOUCHINGTHELUKEWARMSOUP! OURSOUP!!! She took them away and brought them back. I don’t think she heated them up — I don’t know. I wouldn’t eat it after that. I also ordered a California Roll. That was made with old rice. Worst California Roll I have ever had. In.My.Life. It was NOT good. It was NOT cheap. The owners were NOT welcoming or friendly. It was awkward. No one else came in to eat the entire time we were there. Nor did we ever see anyone else in the parking lot anytime we drove by. We will not be going back there. EVER! Oh, we were still craving Japanese food when we left that place.

SERVICE: This is the part that made me blow my lid, because of multiple mistakes they made — From the first time we sat down, the owner and his wife took turns coming to our table asking very, very personal questions. I understand this is acceptable in Korean culture, but hey, we’re in the USA, and I was brought up overseas. As far as I learned, you do NOT go asking random people you just met what their friggin blood type is or your home address. — The second part that pissed me off was that they kept«recommending» food. My girlfriend and I were clearly full from the main dishes we ordered and ate, but they kept telling us to try other food. Listen buddy, it’s one thing if you recommend something once, but once you and your wife do it multiple times over a course of 3 minutes, then that is more than pushing it. Do you seriously have no sense of self control? I mean… I understand that your run down place with bad service isn’t getting much customers, but then again, you brought it on yourself. — The last part(almost just as ridiculous as the others), is that they«required» us to pay some kind of a tip. Seriously, you treat your customers that way and then force us to tip? RIDICULOUS restaurant, that I would never go back. Would rather eat a soggy cardboard box than order from here if I was starving to death. ATMOSPHERE: Looks like the place is 30 years old. Everything about the places screams that any sort of interior decoration or maintenance was done years and years ago. FOOD: The food is actually not bad, but at the same time nothing spectacular. Still, the price seems quite high in terms of the quality you get. Personally I think Taco Bell food is 1000x better.

We are staying on oakhurst for the weekend, and were looking for some sushi. It seems this is the only one for miles around so we decided to give it a shot. Small family owned place and when we got in there were no one dinning in. Must not be too popular. The rice was a bit dry, but the sushi was decent. Got a California roll, shrimp tempura roll, and was suppose to have a tiger roll, but they messed it up and gave us a spider roll. It was still good. Also got some raw tuna, salmon, halibut and ell. Which was also good. All in all we left satisfied.

We were staying at Oakhurst for a Yosemite trip when we were craving for some Asian food. The sign said Japanese and Korean. Hey why not give it a try? OMG, what a bad decision. Everything sucked big time, especially their ramen. The ramen noodles tasted like instant noodles cooked in watered-down miso soup. Portions are small and the prices could be better. Décor was blah. Not a clean restaurant. Young dude that was the waiter(possibly the owner’s son) looked like he got his ass hauled in to work against his will. Felt sorry for him, but more sorry for us eating at this place. Their combination dinners were somewhat possibly OK and that is why I could technically give this place a 1.5 stars rating, but guess what? There is no such thing as «1.5 stars» on Unilocal, and because I had a stomach ache the next day, I will have to downgrade to «1-star» again. Would not come back here ever again.

This was one of the worst dining experiences in my life. The prices we ridiculously high compared to the quality and quantity; $ 9.50 for a couple pieces of extremely thinly cut teriyaki chicken and $ 10.95 for a bowl of spicy ramen-like broth with old tasting seafood and yakisoba noodles. Theyy gave us what was obviously tap water that was microwaved for a couple minutes when we asked for hot tea. The service was horrible. We came in kind of late(around 8:20) after spending the day at Yosemite. When we asked them what time they closed, they shortly told us that will wait until we are done eating. We were deciding what to order and the owner came and told us to hurry up at least twice. I had to go to another table to get some chopsticks because they didn’t bother bringing them to us. We asked for an extra bowl to share the soup and they gave us a tiny-ass miso soup bowl(all while not even making eye contact with any of us). They didn’t check on us or ask us if we needed anything. I feel like the 4 dollar tip we left was way too much… Seriously, don’t waste your money here.

Food was not so great. I go to Yosemite National Park often so this place is in small choice of Japanese restaurant in this area for sure. Before I write about food, I like to write about my experience. One day I went to check the manu at Kyoto Sushi, First word from Owner was«Are you Chinese»(Why he care who I am) I asked …“Are you Japanese”(I was little mad… that way he asked) Owner said«What do you want …(wwwwwwhat???) …I left from restaurant that day. After this bad manners from owner, I lost my appetite. I had korian BBQ plate, Katsu-don in past. they were about 3 stars minus 1 star Udon was 3.5 stars minus 1.5 star

I have to say, for a small place in the middle of nowhere, they have some good food. I think I have had almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed with any of it. The owners are very friendly and go out of there way to make you happy. The prices are within range with other Sushi places and the portions are about the same. Do not let the location and look deceive you. It is well worth the stop. Do to having some of the freshest fish in other places, I can not give them 5 stars, but would love to. Can not wait to go back.

DONOTEATHERE! Agree with the other reviewers! I wouldn’t even give this place any star! I Unilocaled this place after I had a bad experience. should’ve done it beforehand. I never wrote review on Unilocal before, but I this time I feel like I have to, just to give you warning. When we came in they don’t even have a welcoming attitude. The woman that run that place was so rude. Took her so long to even come by our table to take the order. She’s more interested collecting money from other tables. The guy next to my table had to asked her that she gave him a couple bucks short on change. She«serviced» us with a grudge. Overpriced. Food didn’t taste fresh. The amount and quality is not like we would expect for the price. Between me, my husband, and 5 years old we spent $ 59. And if you don’t give them tips like they think you should… that woman will come to your table, mock you, and swear bad words at you. i am local by the way. That place is embarrassing. It could give this town a bad name the way they do business. It was a DISGUSTING experience.

DONOTEATHERE! We were driving up to Yosemite and this is the main town on Hwy 41 before getting to the main entrance to Yosemite. My wife and I were craving asian food and didn’t feel like cooking in 98 degree heat at the campsite. We saw a sign«Kyoto Kafe, authentic japanese food» with dishes in Korean. It was a small restaurant with was pretty plain inside. It isn’t the most clean place I’ve been to. I ordered the teriyaki beef bento box which included beef, rice, 4 california rolls, veggie tempura, salad and miso soup. It was pricey at $ 13.99 so my expectations were high. My wife ordered the udon. The miso soup was bland. the udon’s soup base was too salty. The tempura wasn’t crisp. The beef and cali roll was alright. While we were eating, one of the workers was walking around with a fly swatter, and there were 4 other tables with patrons eating. I thought, what is she doing, I look down to take a bite and«WHAM!» she smashed the fly swatter on the empty table a foot away from me. «Got it!» she says in Korean. What the? I started cracking up because I’ve never in my life seen this in any restaurant. Here’s the serious problem. This place is UNSANITARY. Period. I can’t go into detail but what my wife and I saw is not acceptable in any restaurant, especially one that serves sushi. How the servers handled food can cause serious illness. I will contact the proper authorities for the well being of fellow customers. DONOTEATHERE!

Today I took a random trip, this time in the direction of Oakhurst. I’d gotten a late start and had also skipped lunch, not a good combo. Upon arriving in the bustling metropolis of Oakhurst, I’d determined that an early-ish dinner would happen here, in what looked like a sea of chain fast food and pre-seasoned Sysco fare. After cruising the main drag, I came upon this tiny place, and decided to make dinner here. I ordered snapper nigiri and a tempura-ed roll. The snapper was surprisingly fresh and the flavor of the tempura roll was good, I appreciated the shredded cabbage in the middle, as I made an impromptu salad with the sauce left over from the roll. The only drawback was that the rice seemed a little dry. Scooped green tea ice cream was available for dessert, and I took full, delicious advantage of that. The décor is basic, and they do have a posted sign regarding a $ 10 credit card minimum(which Visa/MC say is a no-no), so do be aware of that.

These folks are nice, but they don’t know sushi. The fish they served was anything but fresh and looked more like leather. We ordered a salmon skin salad and instead got a pile of iceberg lettuce topped with chunks of tempura salmon. While I appreciate a chef taking creative license, this concoction was anything but impressive or creative. Adding insult to injury it tasted awful. As nice as this husband and wife team is they need to step it up a lot. I know Oakhurst is a relatively small town, but it’s not like it’s in the middle of nowhere; it’s a major hub. I’d really like to give them a second chance, but I probably won’t.
