Had a great dinner here last night! Our food was delicious. We got the Tour of Italy and the Antipasto salad. We were tired from traveling and our quick service and great waitress made it worth the trip.

Our first time here. I doubt if we will return. Food was mediocre at best. Very bland, unremarkable food. Maybe our desert to go will prove to be dynamite??? Nope. We ordered two cheesecakes to go and got home and set down to one cheesecake and one key lime pie. Cheesecake was described as red velvet cake in the middle and it was not. It appeared to be angel food cake-like. Will not return.

We’ve gone here several times and tried a variety of their foods. Certainly some dishes are better than others. Oddly, despite the name, their greek menu tends to be among the better tasting dishes. They do have reasonable stromboli and calzone, though the pizza is pretty typical for the region, all cheese, few other flavors. The marinara sauce is fairly bland, but they do have a number of dishes strongly enough flavored to not require it as much, especially ones with pepper and onion. Not a great restaurant, but reliable standby when we want to eat out without it being a big deal and expect reasonable service and a reasonably wide menu.

Gondolier Pizza and Italian Restaurant is a no go unless you feel the need to eat a pound of cheese. I ordered their vegetable lasagna hoping it would beautifully layered with thin veggies and amazing sauce. However my first reaction when the plate was placed in from of me was«where’s the lasagna?» It was buried alive under a mountain of cheese! Now some people love to get plugged up by greasy goo but not this girl. Of course what was worse is this mound of cheese was hiding the horrible reality that the vegetable lasagna was not the thin soft layers of goodness I was anticipating. The layers were crunchy thick chucks of broccoli, carrots, zucchini, and whatever else. Lasagna should not give my fork a battle or my teeth. Gondolier is the furthest thing from Italian in Oak Ridge. It’s like opening a can of generic sauce and store brand noodles then spilling the entire bag of cheese.

My one experience at this restaurant was pretty poor. Service was slow, the teenagers working there seemed pretty clueless, and my food(some sort of Italian entrée) was dismal. I hear that their pizza is better. I don’t feel good about giving this place a rating until I’ve given them a second chance, but I haven’t felt inclined to go back.
