I was feeling spontaneous and came to this spot in Oak Park. The area is not the finest of Oak Park but nonetheless I figured I would give it a shot. The staff was very kind but gave me the incorrect order. I wanted the meal and walked out with ¼ of a chicken and 3 beef patties. The white chicken breast with the side of hot sauce was ok but I just was not really satisfied with their food. I don’t think I would come back again.

These guys are 2 for 2 and we are looking forward to our 3rd dinner. Call ahead because necessary prep time requires 30 or more minutes. But, prep time means freshly prepared dishes. The catfish was moist (not wet like thawed frozen fish) and so very delicious, or as my wife said, «this IS deliciousness!» It was scary how much she loved the plantains (I actually felt a little jealous). The proprietor is kind and accommodating. He insisted on providing us with 2 free dinner orders after a mixup at our first encounter. 4 stars rather than 5 because it’s location requires some fortitude and caution. Bottom line, delicious!

The staff is nice the food not so much. I have only been satisfied maybe once with the food here. Which was the jerk chicken. It was good, but not great.
Really disappointed when i ordered curried chicken once and got grilled chicken with curry sauce on the side. Really???
I love to support local businesses but they need to step it up for me to be a regular.

I should have known better than to order food 2 hours before close. Jerk chicken was burnt and dry. I had ordered a side of oxtails via Grubhub and the restaurant did not call and tell me that they ran out of oxtails before I drove to pick it up. They did not have ginger beer even though it was on the menu. Surprising because Fridays are typically busy restaurant days. Won’t be back. There is a waayyy better restaurant in the area that has a bit of a longer drive but is definitely worth it. I went there the next day (Tropical Times) and got fresh jerk chicken and oxtails.

I have to actively stop myself from coming over here more often than I do. I love how well prepared everything is. It’s a small store but the flavor and the owners more than make up for it. I love this Grill. It’s a black-​owned business which I am always in favor of supporting.

Worst Jamaican food I’ve had!
I decided to try this place after reading the Unilocal reviews. Saturday night at 7:30pm, they were out of the first three entrees I tried to order. Finally, I just said, «what do you have?»
I ordered chicken that was dry and didn’t have any jerk flavor at all. The rice and beans and cabbage were over cooked and mushy.
Don’t waste your money.

So… What has happened since July? Saturday afternoon, did not want to cook. This was usually the best place to get a lot of good food. Didn’t happen — new cook or new management? Chicken was weird — I can’t say how, just weird. I don’t know what that was they called rice. It was NOT Jamaican rice, more like parboiled and not seasoned. By the way, I had 7 (I counted) beans in the beans and rice. Plantain was ½ cooked. Cabbage not seasoned AT ALL! The best thing about this $ 22 meal was the doggone bread! They have been up and down over the last few years, but tolerable. I’m done with them. I’m still thinking about the parboiled fat-​grained, non-​seasoned rice.

Delicious, authentic food. Some of the best jerk chicken in the Chicago area. Call ahead for certain menu items, particularly the beef patties. No seating inside so it’s only pickup or delivery. Excellent service, nice guys.

Delicious. I had the jerk chicken, it was amazing. The rice was fluffy and delicious, and the cabbage had a little spice to it. Definitely authentic Caribbean. Even the plantains were perfect.

Wow. Who knew? Have passed this place plenty of times (shame on me) without stopping even though I love Jerk Wings (they’ve got em and they are great) fried plantains (maybe the best i’ve had) Patties (yep and also great) and there were plenty of times I thought about stopping (shame on me again).
They are slow (but it’s worth the wait) but don’t go if you’re in a hurry. Will definitely be back.

Delicious!!! I was looking to try something new the other night, and this proved to be a fantastic choice. I read that this place is SLOW… and they were. However, I did place my order and return later for pick up (had to wait a bit longer still). However, all this waiting was WORTH it. Loved the jerk wings, plantains, rice and beans, and meat patties. Really, the food was flavorful, piping hot, and a real treat. My three and six year old were thrilled with everything as well… We will be ordering from here again!

Fantastic carry out place in Oak Park. I just got home with a jerk chicken plate with plantains, cabbage, and rice & beans, and ate it standing at the counter because it was so good. Portions are a good size, the seasoning is perfect, and the food is fresh. The guys behind the counter are super friendly, and although some reviews say there’s a long wait, I was in and out in ten minutes.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Customer service was superb and the food was great. Me and honey decided to give this place a try since we were in the neighborhood. I got the Jerk wings with cabbage, rice and plantains. He had the shrimp with the same sides. The food was fresh not overly seasoned and so… good. I will definitely be back.

This local hole in the wall serves REALLY GOOD jerk chicken for take away. You can’t go wrong with the jerk! I’ve ordered their oxtails a few times as well. The oxtails are inconsistent. They are sometimes served as soon as they are cooked, which is a no no. The best oxtails that I have tasted usually has to sit for awhile. The dinner portions are hearty and the prices are economical. I like this place a lot, and it’s nice to have a bit of good Jamaican food in Oak Park.

Delicious Jamaican takeout, but you better have a little patience waiting for your food. Do they tell you it will be ready in 45 minutes, and then you get there to find it is not ready? Absolutely. Plan on about an extra 30 minutes — they are on island time. Are they friendly and cheerful and play great music while you wait? Yes. It’s hard to get mad.
Unfortunately, we don’t frequent this place more, because when you are hungry and brainstorming ideas for food takeout, Jamaican Grill comes up, and then is vetoed because of the wait. Suggestion: only go here if you have planned ahead, and add time to whatever time they tell you. Better yet, make a tropical drink and put on a Congos or Desmond Dekker album to pass the time.

What a great place! We were looking for Jamaican wings and found this small, family-​owned place right in Oak Park. I was ordering a bunch of separate dinners and they suggested to just get the family dinner, because it was a better deal. We got a whole chicken, plantains, cabbage and carrots, sauces, and an extra side of rice and beans for $ 21. It was really great homemade food! How can cabbage and carrots taste this good?
I ordered the food, then went and did errands. When I came back, they took another 10 minutes or so, probably because the plantains were made right then so they wouldn’t be cold or soggy. Everything was amazing!

I ordered the Jerk Chicken mix meal, rice and beans and ginger beer.
Chicken was spicy, yet flavorless. Soggy, the skin on the chicken was rubber. I took a few bites and threw it away. I did not touch the rice and beans and the ginger beer was just sugar and ginger, threw it out as well. Overall, kind of wasted my money. Granted it was delivery, however, what a disappointment. What a shame.

This Jamaican restaurant serves the most authentic jerk chicken wings I’ve ever tasted outside of those in Montego Bay. After sampling hordes of others, including those on other islands in the Caribbean, I thought I’d have to go to Jamaica just to get delicious wings. These, however, were almost perfect. The only thing missing was the ambience. That is why I gave it 4 stars. If you like jerk chicken wings, this is the place for you.
