Been coming to Als for years. This place never disappoints. Love the family atmosphere and seeing the same faces. The food is always amazing and served with a smile!

Damn that’s some great biscuits and gravy! I had visited once before and had a skillet, but I knew I needed to give their b&g a try. Made from scratch biscuits is key. Karen is a great server and they brew a great cup of coffee too. Love to see counter seats in an old school dinner, certainly a crowd pleaser. Check out their video on CBTV. #bestbreakfast

Al’s never disappoints! Classic, American, diner food in a quaint, comfortable setting. Friendly, fast service, delicious food, and good prices make this a family favorite of ours. Try the veggie burger and fries — delicious!

«Al» seems to be a name for an individual being reliable and trustworthy, so «let’s stay together» from now on, Mr. Al! There’s a dependable breakfast/brunch place near Harlem and Madison in Oak Park. Guess what? The name this diner is also«Al.» I dragged hubby along for a breakfast date since he took a tired-of-work sick day. What I had at Al’s this morning was nothing but solid, nourishing, and good American-style breakfast. The«Al’s chicken and waffle» was well-executed. The maple syrup that came with was warm and free from coagulation. They gave me a plenty of syrup and I used the remainder of that for my coffee. I probably had a bit of Canadian in me without having to realize it! Next time I should order one of the skillets. Hubby had the«southwestern skillet» and it was a very awesome-looking one! I believe there are ample opportunities for me to come back to Al’s. Their service was quick and friendly. By the way, the coffee re-fills were super on-point. I hardly reached the bottom of my mug before getting topped off every single time. My experience at Al’s this morning was positive. An early-riser like Rosa J. loves to be rewarded for some wholesome breakfast as often as she can.

My wife and I heard that this place was supposed to be really good so we decided to drive over and check it out. There was a sizable line which is always a good sign and they did a great job of moving it along. We may have waited 20mins… I ordered the Al’s skillet, got the pancakes and I got a side of corned beef hash. My wife ordered the Huevos Rancheros. The Pancakes: light and fluffy and really Really good! The Al’s Skillet — heaps of meats and cheese covered in some egg oh man, this one will fill you up. The skillet portions were spot on, they will fill you and add in the pancakes and your gunna need to loosen your belt. The Huevos Rancheros — My wife gave me a bite and I was absolutely blown away. The execution of this dish varies widely. I honesty didn’t order this because I have had so many I just know what to expect… an imbalance of spice coupled with super greasy chorizo is generally the run of the mill Huevos Rancheros. THATISNOTWHATTHEYDOHERE. Keep in mind I only took one bite. One bite was all I needed. THIS Huevos Rancheros was perfection. The combination of spice and flavor from all the ingredients came though in one bite like I never expected. I can’t eat another Huevos Rancheros anywhere else again without comparing it to the one served up at Al’s, which really sucks for everyone else trying to serve one! If I had to come back and could order only one thing it would be the Huevos Rancheros. Simply for the fact that I have never had one in any breakfast restaurant that created and executed such a dish that brought all the flavors together in such a successful way. This dish is the one for me! The Corned Beef Hash — Let me start off by saying I love corned beef hash. I order it everywhere. What I’m used to seeing is a lot of greasy potatoes threat weighs very heavy in the gut once consumed. While I know this is the general effect of the dish it never stops me from ordering it. Al’s Grill, again, does it right! It’s not the greasy oily hash you’ve been served before. It actually feels light by comparison to the other corned beef hash you’ve met before and the taste is simply over the top. This as well is also my favorite corned beef hash. To sum it all up, Al’s Grill is worth the drive if you’re not native to the Oak Park area. If you are, you’re very lucky to have this gem in your neighborhood! I will be back, I don’t know when but after pondering the dishes I spoke of above, I am getting really really hungry!

Al’s is one of those typical old-timey all-American Diner’s. Makes one feel a little nostalgic. It’s mostly a locals place and lots of seniors and families congregate here for brunches and other meals off their extensive menu. The staff is very friendly and responsive, being very quick with the coffee and water refills. There’s parking in the back and sometimes on the street, so it’s very easily accessible. The prices are also very decent. If you’re health conscious or just looking for something tasty, try the stuffed tomato. Tomato stuffed with chicken salad, hard boiled egg, veggies along side as well as and your choice of sides.

For straight up diner food, there are very few in this league. Second generation running the place with the tenacity and commitment to quality and service as dad. It’s all good, decent, honest American diner food. Traditional dishes intermingled with some fresh concepts. I’ve never been disappointed. As good as the GREAT New Jersey and New England legendary diners and in my experience that says it all. If you are looking for biscuits and gravy, it doesn’t get any better in Cook County. Ham on the bone is spectacular as are all the breakfast and lunch items. I love a restaurant that knows what they do well and sticks to it. These guys are the best lunch spot in the area. The diversity of the clientele and welcoming atmosphere of the experienced staff even make this a place you may make a new acquaintance or two. Honest, wholesome American food at a fair price at a time in this country’s development where the words honest, wholesome and fair are rare characteristics. Great job to everyone! Never change. Somethings should stay the same like quality.

Whenever I come to Oak Park to visit my Auntie, she always takes us to Al’s Grill. She comes here probably every weekend so when she comes in its just like episode from Cheers. The staff is VERY friendly and they are very attentive. And the food is always delicious and you never have to wait long for them to serve you even on a busy weekend. Which is huge plus because most of time when you go to breakfast you are starving and ready to eat. To top it off the food is very inexpensive !! Go visit Al’s Grill you will not regret it!!!

Best of the Best — Greek Diners! We’ve been coming to Al’s Grill for years. He use to be across the street, but now opened a bright, open spaced diner. Always friendly, efficient wait staff. Billy the owner or his son are always there to welcome you. Wonderful, fresh menu and of course, breakfasts can’t be beat.

It’s an odd feeling to give a diner five stars, and yet I cannot help myself when it comes to Al’s. I come here often as I am in outside sales in the area to meet clients or a Quick lunch where I can get some work done. I’ve had omelets, poached eggs(done perfectly), salads, and a variety of their soups. You know when you were a kid, your parents pulled you from playing in the snow, and crammed your siblings and you into the car to visit your grandparents? I do;and I wasn’t happy about it. That is until the smell of the homemade beef barley soup hit my nose. You know the one with the rich thicker than broth, tender veggies, and hunks of beef that are softer than the oyster crackers you allowed to get somewhere near soggy. Their chicken noodle, pea, veggie, and others evoke the same feeling of my tiny irish grandma spending hours with basic staples and turning out something that’ll stick to your bones no matter how many snowball fights you get into. Great staff, too. They’re not the typical crabby older women who would rather be anywhere else. The waitresses know the usual and treat new with respect; I was called sweetie twice. I knowthey’ve all been here a while, and you can tell! Go here… Get soup!

This place was packed Sunday morning. The service is fast and they very friendly. The place feels very home like and relaxing. Food was alright. We had the chicken waffle, corn beed hash and bacon. The chicken was a bit hard but the waffle was just right. Fist time I had the corn beed hash and I liked it. They have good fresh coffee. Coffee was not too light or too strong. It was very good. Price was not bad at all. Definitely recommend.

My family and I have been coming here for 10 years. I know all the waitress very well and are all very friendly as well as the two bus boys. The owner and his son and daughter are always very welcoming. There food is amazing ! You never have to wait long for your food. This is the only restaurant where I will eat breakfast, I have tried many and none compare to Al’s! They never disappoint and you know you’ll be served quickly. The place is also very clean!

Al’s Grill is that down-home diner you’ve been craving. It’s buzzing with the kind of energy that makes you wanna say to your waitress, «Hell yeah, I’ll take that extra side of pancakes!» Loved this place and the people in it. Fantastic food, good service and most importantly fast delivery.

I love Al’s. Now, I may be slightly biased, because I do live less then a 2 minute walk away(we share an alley) but… Hear me out. The Al’s skill and the Denver skillet never cease to amaze me. I love breakfast and if I could eat it at every meal of the day I would. The hash browns and ham are the best. I consider myself a breakfast connoisseur, but they’re skillets are also the perfect cure to any hangover. Their pancakes are great as well. Always perfect. The coffee is delicious. What more can a breakfast lover ask for?

I came here because they were featured on Chicago’s Best Thankfully this place isn’t in Chicago! I have never paid $ 40 for breakfast for two people. Definitely sticker shock for mediocre food. Won’t be back again! The biscuits and gravy arrived cold– how can that be? Too sweet for my taste. The food was delivered as ordered but not worth it. The sausage was ok, I’ve had better for less $. What got them on the show? Did I order the wrong things? The price was ridiculous.

My husband and I came here to dine on a Saturday early afternoon for brunch. It was a bit crowded but we were seated 5 minutes after walking in. This is a casual diner, nothing like the brunch places you see around Oak Park/River Forest. Our waitress Nora was awesome! She was so friendly, smart, and helpful. We gave her a nice tip for her awesome-ness. My husband started with their chicken noodle soup. He ordered a large bowl, but Nora knew we were going to share so she brought us two smaller bowls(which is equivalent to a large bowl) so then we can each have our own share. We also ordered a large orange juice, and she brought out two cups with orange juice filled 75% to the top so we don’t have to share the same cup. Pretty smart!!! For entrée, I had Al’s Skillet which was pretty good! I liked all the ingredients on there — it was a bit too much potatoes for me, but thats alright. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. He said it was very heavy. it would be good as a side dish but not a whole meal. He also ordered a side of turkey sausage and I had pancakes. Lots of food. we were very full at the end. We definitely would come back and hope to see Nora again! The menu is extensive so we will get to try out something else next time.

I walked in this morning around quarter after seven. There weren’t many people here, but it is a weekday. The server took care of me right away. I ordered two eggs scrambled, hash browns, bacon and toast. I’ve always known Al’s to have friendly service. A waittress joked to a customer, «You should go back to Louie’s!” – a breakfast diner up the street. I already know the food will be good. No partner in crime this morning. Just me.
