I stumbled upon this little taqueria on my way home from Midway airport, when I had a severe craving for tacos and guac. This place hit the spot — a delicious, cheap and fast meal that you can’t beat! I had two tacos — chicken and pork — they were very flavorful and the meat was good quality(not at all fatty). The tacos were perfectly simple served with cilantro and onions OR lettuce and tomatoes, and double corn tortillas. They were only $ 2.10 each! The guacamole was also delicious and only $ 3.50 for a very generous serving. They also serve you complimentary chips and 3 types of salsa. Last but not least, the staff at this place was super friendly and kind — I will definitely be back anytime I drive to midway around lunch or dinner time!

For a straight forward mex joint with good salsa selection and homemade guacamole, you cannot go wrong here. My burrito was large and full of all of the tasty ingredients I wanted. Ordered the side of guac and it’s really chunky and plentiful.

Go JUST for the tacos and sopes! I first found out about this little hole in the wall restaurant when I was driving around Oak Lawn looking better tasting Mexican food(La Playita on 87th and Pulaski had disappointed me for the last time). From the outside, it looks like another typical mediocre Taqueria, but I thought what the hell, give it a chance. Their tacos and sopes are delicious! The tortillas are made from scratch, and the meat is perfectly seasoned and juicy. Their tacos do not need to be topped with anything other than cilantro and onion. The sopes are fried until crispy on the bottom and then topped with your choice of toppings. When you add the salsa and bite in, you get a crispy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside mouthful that has you begging for more. Their gorditas, tortas, and quesadillas are great as well. The rest of their food is mediocre and doesn’t blow your mind. I would not drive out of my way to eat their rice, beans, guac and chips, or any of their dinner plates. The milkshakes are a hit or miss depending on who makes it and the flavored waters are just okay. The restaurant displays a neon sign that says«Tamales» on their window, and I thought that might be their specialty, but nope! If you want good tamales, go to 26th and Pulaski intersections, and you will find some of the most delicious homemade FRESH tamales in Chicago, but NOT here. This restaurant’s tamales are small, with minimal filling, and tasteless. A PERFECTEXPERIENCEATELTACOSABROSO #2: Order 1 taco of your choice, 1 gordita to share, and definitely one of their delicious sopes to hog for yourself. Then order a Sangria Mexican soda to compliment your delicious, mouth watering food. Go at night, and you may be able to get a booth in front of a TV showing entertaining Mexican soap operas. Perfect chill night.

I was able to eat it without saying to myself, ugh, gross, afterward. Guacamole portions were large! That’s really the best thing I can say about it. I got the chicken taco dinner. Salt was the only flavor in the chicken. Rice was clearly some form of frozen/dehydrated. Beans were blah. I’d go back for chips and guacamole

Great homemade guacamole! This is the best place I’ve found in the area. The enchiladas are mediocre but their steak taco dinners, burritos, flautas, and basically everything else are great! I love their verde sauce as well.

I have to say that I had high hopes for this place, but that didn’t last long. I’ll start with the chips, and salsa which were just ok. They serve the salsa in the smallest dishes I have ever seen. They only serve pop in a can for a buck a piece which is a pet peeve of mine. I ordered a steak taco dinner which looked promising. …boy was I wrong. The steak was chopped tiny, and very crispy. The rice had very little flavor, and this brings me to the beans. The beans were just a brown flavorless paste. The rice, and beans sucked so bad I couldn’t finish them. For the roughly $ 11 I paid for my lunch I want better. You live and you learn.

I was craving tacos in a major way and didn’t have time to go out to the south suburbs for my favorite. I got on Unilocal to see what options were nearby and opted to try this place out. Sooooo glad I did! My meat was well seasoned and juicy, the salsas were good(and plentiful). We dined in, it’s not a huge space but they do have a television and nice sized booths/tables. I would have liked for our tortilla chips to be warm and in the future I’ll probably just get the food to go — but the staff was very nice! All in all, if you want an authentic inexpensive Mexican meal, this is your spot. We’ll definitely be going back. Oh! They only have pork tamales :(We don’t eat pork :(

How have I not been here before? Today was my first visit, and like Brian C., I’m certain it won’t be my last. I met a friend here for lunch and our server was sweet, very friendly. I ordered an horchata and it was very good. Not the best of my life(that was in Pilsen, I think), but pretty darn good! They were out of chicken tamales, sadly, but the chicken taco was amazing – nicely seasoned and tasty. And tasty sauces as far as the eye could see! I can’t wait to go back.

This was my first visit and it won’t be my last. I had the steak burrito and a horchata to go. Very good burrito, perfectly seasoned and tender steak. And large! The horchata was good as well, just the right amount of cinnamon. And the price can’t be beat at just $ 6.12 for my meal. They have two tv’s, that while I was there had the novellas on, a bit loud, but not terrible. It was quite busy, but everyone was being taken care of, and wait was reasonable. I’ll definitely go back and try other menu offerings.

El taco sabroso has got some good things going for them. First off they are reasonable in their prices. Not only that but they do not seem to skimp out because of their low prices. I wasn’t expecting to get such a large container of rice for only 1.60! Next, as a tamale addict I had to of course order one. I got the pork, and was not super impressed by the flavor. However what I did like was that it seemed pretty fresh, no dried out edges here! The chicken and pastor tacos were pretty flavorful though. Finally they gave us 2 red sauces, 1 green, and a pico de gallo without even asking. There have been some other places in the area I have had to practically beg for hot sauce so that was nice. Overall I enjoyed their food and I shall return!
