Set up an appointment last Thursday to have someone come out and replace our heating duct return joints, and the earliest they had available was Monday morning at 9am. A-​OK, let’s do this!
Nobody shows up at 9am on Monday morning. No phone call, no email. I double-​check with my husband on the appointment time and he verifies 9am. 9:15… 9:30… at 9:45, I finally call the company. The person I spoke with was polite when she took my call; it took her a few minutes to track the engineer down and tell me that he was running behind and would be at our house at 11. Two hours wasted.
11:05am, still no one. I call again, and I’m told that the dude is on his way. Five or ten minutes later, he shows up completely empty handed. I showed him the way to the attic crawlspace access (covered with a panel that screws into the wall), and he asks me how to get into it, then if I have a screwdriver. I get him a screwdriver, then he asks for a flashlight. I got fed up by that point and turned the job of answering questions and fetching things over to my husband. After the access panel has been removed, the person sent to replace the heating duct joints looks inside and says, «I’m not crawling around in there,» and makes my husband look for where the joints are located. I pull up the home inspection report to help pinpoint the spots they’ll need to get into, and he tells me he has to go get his glasses from the truck.
After all of this (it’s a little after noon at this point), he tells us it’ll be $ 250 and the earliest it can be done is Thursday or Friday of this week. We tell him that we’ll talk it over and call the office, and he goes on his way. Four hours of our time totally wasted.
I did not offer him a glass of water before he left.
