I love little tucked-away, off-the-radar places like this. River Road is what I imagine Milwaukie proper was more like back in the 50s. Indeed, there are but a couple of vintage diners, an old tire shoppe/petrol fillling station, McQueens, and of course, this little Mart. The little Asian man currently owning the business has had it for about 2.5 years, and says he believes the mart goes back about 50 years(late 50s, early 60s – what d’ya know?), and that there were 3 previous owners in all for this mart through the decades. He likes his mart, and keeps it supremely well stocked! Good night Irene— every conceivable rack, shelf, refrigerator and counter top is piled high and stacked supremely neatly with goods! The only thing he doesn’t like is the long hours – he’s there 15 hours every day! He is only open till 2200 all week, hence only 4 stars. But I only saw one door, and one window – both heavily fortified. When the Undead rise and begin their orgy of gore and terror, this would be a particularly excellent enclave. You could safely hole up for several months – just on the basis of the floor stock alone! So long as the Gov’t doesn’t decide to firebomb the whole metro region and start from scratch, ala 28 days later, you might just be a major piece of the re-population of the earth puzzle, and you can be proud knowing it all was thanks to River Road Mart. Stay thirsty and VIGILANT, my friends. The Undead are already among us, all Bed Bath and WAAAAY Beyond, ‘n sh*t…
