Closed down… SHOCKING… I guess the a-hole owner, ridiculous wait times(an hour to get your food) and never having half your menu available finally caught up with this place. Too bad. Decent food, but very poorly ran business.

I agree with the poster that feels some of these reviews are a fake. I went there and they were not busy. The hostess(?) was dressed like a homeless prostitute, not a family friendly site at 4 pm. The place smelled like dirty lysol mop water. I contemplated leaving but a friend recommended it and I try to support the little guy as much as I can. The lady at the register was very nice as well as the girl that i believe was a waitress. The food was 50⁄50 I thought the ribs were really fatty but the sides were good. I told myself I would go back after they were open a while longer but never could get myself past the initial smell. A BBQ restaurant should tempt you with the smell every time time you drive by but I never smell BBQ till I get closer to Ethyls. It has been a few months since I was there but I am new to Unilocal and catching up on my reviews, maybe they have improved.

Mr D and I made it to S&S on a recent BBQ Wednesday outing. I actually found it because it showed up in the list of AAdvantage dining restaurants in the area. I was needing an AA dine to keep status, so decided to try it. Besides, we always seem to drive east for these outings and decided it was time to do another St Chuck trip. S&S puts on a small buffet at lunch. They don’t put out a lot of food, I’m sure to keep it pretty fresh. However, they don’t offer their ribs on the buffet so we decided to order from the menu. Mr D and I each ordered a half rack of ribs. I added a brisket sandwich and we each selected slaw and fried okra. Our server advised us that they made great slaw. Starting with the ribs. They are very smoky with a good rub. These are good ribs, but overcooked. Now they were not dried out, but were probably finished outside of the smoker in an oven or roaster. I doubt they were precooked(heaven forbid, boiled) and then smoked but it is possible. In any event for those of you who really like fall off the bone, these are what you are looking for. You actually don’t need teeth. That being said, they are well flavored and enjoyable. Ms T liked my leftovers very much. I will have to take her there for lunch on another day. My Brisket sandwich was decent, more chopped, which I think is a good idea. Brisket is difficult to do perfectly and make it tender enough to eat on a sandwich, so you can eat it without pulling all of the meat off when you try to bite it, without also drying it out. I liked this chopped style, it was flavorful and made a good smoky sandwich. Slaw is a fetish of mine. I agreed with our server, I like the style here. It is a very fine grind, like we often get in the South. This works well on sandwiches, which I did with some of mine. It is sweet and creamy, I found it needing a splash of vinegar. For me, this is normal for most sweet creamy slaw. Some Crystal Hot Sauce usually does the trick. The fried okra was a huge serving. I brought a lot home for Ms T who is an okra hound. This appeared to be commercially breaded, frozen, but never mind, it was pretty good for your fried okra fix. This is a nice place. We had very good service. There was no hint of stale barbecue and hopefully that is not just the luck of the day. I’m sure Ms T will like it and we will make an effort to go back.

After reading some of the bad reviews on here, I feel the need to write a good one! This is based on several visits to the restaurant, most of which occurred when I was a picky pregnant lady. Even when I was miserable and ready to pop, changed my mind several times and was probably a pain for the young waitress, everything was fantastic! I have always had a good experience at S&S and the food has always been the best barbecue around for a great price. I highly recommend it to all of my friends and family as well as anyone who takes the time to read this! It is a great, locally owned establishment that we will definitely become regular and loyal patrons of!

I have been to this restaurant many times. In the beginning, the food and the service was good, yet slow. I told my niece about this place and we packed up and went to eat and chat here. When we arrived we were promptly seated and placed our orders. There weren’t very many customers so we didn’t anticipate a lengthy wait. We were wrong. The children were a hot mess by the time it was time to eat. When our food arrived and the waitress had gone, we realized we didn’t have utensils to eat with and had to wait for her return. My brisket was a bit dry but otherwise ok. Everyone enjoyed their meal except for my niece. Her nachos tasted off to her and try as she might she couldn’t eat them. She sent them back almost untouched. This is where things literally went south in a hurry. When the bills for each of us came, the nachos were still on her bill. We asked the waitress to remove them and she was dumbfounded. She went to get the manager who told us that she still had to pay for them. We told him they tasted awful, and were not at all what was expected. He then got the owner. I am so sad and embarrassed that I took my niece there. The owner got very defensive and started to be verbally combative to her. The other women in our group tried to explain customer service to this man and were then told that we were trying to taste for free. There were 5 bills and only one complaint. He started insulting our group and accusing of us of trying to get the food for free. The rest of ate our food. It was an order of nasty nacho. What on earth possessed this man to go postal on his patrons? He obviously has no customer service experience. We literally left there shocked, near tears, and immensely offended. To be honest, I know there are several(and better) BBQ places around but it was raining and it was close. We will NEVER go there again or recommend anyone we know there. I still cannot comprehend what happened or why the owner behaved in such an unprofessional way. If anyone loves mom and pops bbq got to Blues BBQ in Ofallon by Townsquare Cinema. I promise you that the service, and the food are beyond compare. I have never had such great brisket in my life.

This review is simply for the service. Have eaten here quite a few times, and the food is always outstanding! Usually call in a to go order, and take it home. WARNING! If it sounds like they are busy in the background as you call in your order, just tell them nevermind, and wait to eat here for some other time. What I have found out today was that when they«get in the weeds», busy, they pretty much shut down. They are a great mom and pop bbq joint, but just can’t handle a packed house. The cashier, think he’s an owner, saved a 1 star rating here by offering me a drink as I waited 20+ extra minutes to pick up my food.

Some of the best ribs I’ve ever had. Get them with sauce on side. Good beans but slaw was lacking. Spicy BBQ sauce was ok.

The 2lb pork steak is AMAZING. You don’t need a knife just the fork because meat is juicy and flavorful as well as triple header of pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket. Spudzilla is great as well. All the sides are amazing as well. Beer is cheap. Even if you’re not into bbq that much this place great. Prices aren’t cheap besides beer but they are affordable for what you get.

Went there yesterday and I am not a big BBQ fan but now I am. Everything was so delicious and juicy. The meat wasn’t dried out at all. I had leftovers today and even after reheating the meat and sides everything was still juicy and very tasty. It was just as good today than it was yesterday. I know where I will be going from now on for BBQ. Best BBQ by far that I have ever had at a restaurant.

Solid BBQ! We tried going to SugarFire’s on Winghaven and the wait for food was going to be 30 minutes and they didn’t have high chairs. SOOOOOO, we decided to try the not as trendy S and S BBQ. What a good choice we made!!!(and they had high chairs) We tried ribs, brisket and pulled pork and chicken. All were flavorful and moist and juicy! Juicy, fall off the bone ribs! Super friendly staff. Great for kids(not just the high chairs). The sides are all made in house. Fresh slaw, the owner’s family green bean recipe, great baked beans and we were fortunate enough to get the last oder of spoon bread. Oh my, was that good!!! Yes, we will be returning to the establishment(with or without the kids).

Dude, this place has awesome barbeque! Seriously, I can’t think of anybody else in O’Fallon who can go toe to toe with this place. From top to bottom, the place was clean. The service was super friendly and super welcoming. Our server who was a young gentleman fit the bill perfect here. He’s not part of the family, but judging by his performance you thought he was. Oh yeah, it’s locally owned… I love locally owned places! On to food, and drinks. They have an basic deal for beer buckets. A good sweet tea and the soda fountains are solid. I like the variety of items on the kids menu and the large assortment of coloring books to entertain the kids. I was digging the sports center channel on their flat screen tvs. My wife had the ribs. They were thick and meaty… Yeah, they fell off the bones. The sweet and smoky BBQ sauce was great, so was their spicy BBQ sauce which was all served on the side. I had the smoking Philly with beef brisket… It was melt in your mouth. Usually, I will drive downtown to pappy’s bbq for the best BBQ or Bogarts. I still think the downtown locations are the best, but it narrowly edge out S & S BBQ. It’s so excitingly and comforting to know that there is a bomb bbq place just a mile from my house. We will definitely come back and I highly, highly recommend.

I went to S and S BBQ for the first time for lunch today. I had the Spudzilla which is very large baked potato stuff with pulled pork, cheese, slaw, and sour cream. It was excellent. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich which had a lot of meat and was very tasty. We will definitely be back.

I showed up on a Sunday 15 minutes after they opened. They were out of pork steaks and no ribs. Pulled pork was ok. The sauce selection needs upgrading. Staff was good. Place was clean.

There is no way all these reviews are legit. I love pulled pork and have eaten at most of the good BBQ places in town and many when I travel. The pork here is just average at best. The wait time was close to 30 minutes and it was not even busy. Baked beans were good but nothing to bring me back. The pork is a wet type pulled pork. Won’t bother coming back to try anything else based on the slooowwww service and average food.

Fantastic bbq. Best in the area by FAR. We started with the Oinkers(deep fried pulled pork, cheddar cheese).they were great. My son had the brisket and I had the ribs. Beats all others in the area. Sides were very good. We took some homemade pumpkin pie home. Great prices great service. Friendly folks. I will have to try the 2lb pork steak next time. Go and have some great bbq. You wont be disappointed.

Found a new favorite! Very nice and welcoming décor. Had a starter of pig skins and they were great. They are potato skins topped with pulled pork, cheddar cheese, bacon and sour cream. The brisket was super tasty, just the right amount of smoke flavor. The porksteak was pull off the bone tender and had an amazing crust. The sides of potato salad, cole slaw and fried okra made the meal. Potato salad an cole slaw were delicious and creamy. The owner checked to make sure we were enjoying our meal and the waitress was very attentive as well. For sure will go back. A must try for any BBQ enthusiast.

I went there Sunday with my son and the service was great, we ordered our food and before it came out we had a conversation with the owner Rick, he walked up to us and we talked and I found out some really great thing’s about the place. One it’s family owned and that’s a great thing, because you know there gonna take more pride in what they do. They have 3 different HOT sauces and the TNT is HOT. I RECOMMED this place for anybody that like’s BBQ it’s mouth watering and the flavor’s are out standing, plus they will offer you a reward card if you would like one. o go and check them out!!!

Love it! Beef brisket was so juicy and flavorful. Comes with the sweet bbq sauce but they also have spicy and TNT sauces for those who like it a bit hotter. You must give this place a shot! Texas toast garlic bread, hushpuppies, seasoned french fries. Serving sizes are perfect for the money. Friendly and attentive waitresses.
