I went to Tommy’s for lunch on a whim to try something new and I was really pleased. I ordered the Lamb Shank dinner and it was delicious. The meat was fall off the bone tender, it came with rice and string beans that had been simmered in tomato sauce which had a sweet, mild flavor. The staff was friendly an attentive and started us off with bread before our meal. I didn’t give this restaurant 5 stars because I’ve only been once, I feel I need to go a few more times to experience different dishes and see if the staff is consistently friendly.

I do believe he’s got it right. A bit on the expensive side for Greek food. But, the server was super professional, and did everything perfectly. My only complaint, if you can even call it that, is the coffee. It was standard truck stop stuff, but I hear the espresso and cappuccino are awesome. Would recommend. 4 ½ stars.(There’s no ½ so defaults to 5, which I’m happy to give for the category.)

My boyfriend and I wanted to do something unique and different for a date night. Well it was such a perfect find! The food was so delicious and to top it off with laughs downstairs at the comedy show. Must give it a try !

Who needs to go to Greektown when you have Big Tommy’s nearby. Much better Greek fare than any restaurant in Greektown in Downtown Detroit. I’ve been coming here every week for the past month, the food and service is wonderful. I highly recommend the lamb gyro sandwich, Big T’s Greek Salad(the creamy Greek is heavenly), lamb chops are out of this world, and I don’t traditionally like Spinach, but their Spinach Pies are very good! This is my first review on Unilocal,I felt obligated to give my first Unilocal review to Big Tommy’s. They deserve it. I’m glad I found a new local staple! They also have a comedy club in their basement/banquet hall area that I want to check out soon. It seems to be packed whenever they have a show.

This place is awesome. Old school. Great authentic Greek food. I was from out of town but it seemed like this was a favorite place for the regular crowd. I saw a lot of tables with families out for Sunday dinner. I sat at the bar and received awesome service.

Our meal here was mediocre. We ordered the chicken kabob and there were three tiny pieces of chicken. There were two small slices of grilled tomato and two small pieces of grilled onion. The chicken was dry. A friend ordered the Greek Salad and did not like it. The dressing was too sour. Service was just fair. We will not be going back.

What a hilarious accidental awesome meal we stumbled on. I was in the mood for something different, and from the looks of Big Tommy’s, we would have driven right by. It just seemed like one of those places that would give you a tummy ache afterwards. Well I checked out some reviews and we turned around to check it out. So glad we did! They had a buffet going with the likes of lemon chicken(entrée and soup), salad, fruits, BYO omelettes etc, and other token breakfast items for $ 12.99, but not too much that was very GREEK! We stuck to the menu. I ordered a gin and tonic and was carded hard. It was just over $ 5, and I swear they forgot to put the tonic in it. Gin on the rocks. Oh well, rail was Beefeater so I didn’t mind. We started with the flaming greek sausage as an appetizer, brought over in a cast iron skillet, poured some liquor over it and fired it up — OPA! The sausage was good, cut thick and juicy. He squeezed a lemon over it, but I personally would have preferred it be served with a couple more slices as the juice mixed in with the grease and was pretty lost. Still a fun app. Joe decided to get a gyro sandwich for lunch, and I went with the lamb reganato. The meat on the gyro was so thick, juicy and delicious — some of the best I’ve had. Our server recommended instead of the listed plain lamb which is cooked in a tomato sauce, to get the reganato which is served in garlic, oil and oregano. I was BLOWNAWAY. I pretty much just had to look at this lamb and it fell off the bone. Two on one plate — so much meat. It was served with green beans(and tomato sauce) and rice pilaf(with tomato sauce). The rice was cooked perfectly so it was both pillowy and chewy, and the green beans were savory and delicious. This plate was FANTASTIC and only $ 15! I could barely finish my meal, and immediately went home raving about the experience. Don’t pass this one up people!

If you love garlic, this is the place for you! The lamb chops and shish kabobs are very heavy on the garlic. On my last visit, I asked the waitress what I could order that did not contain garlic, and she said everything on the menu had garlic so I was out of luck for any of the dinner items. Overall, I do not think this place is even in the same league as some of the Greektown restaurants. However, they do have a very nice Sunday breakfast buffet.

Moussaka was good — a lot of rice with it. Not the best, but solid.

We have eaten there a few times breakfast and dinner. It’s always been a good experience. The menu has a large variety but it’s not overwhelming. Portions are generous especially for the price. Service has always been friendly and attentive! Last night we tried their take out. Chicken wings were delicious! Larage size wings which were fresh and had a lot of moist meat. It was a welcome surprise especially when so many other places sereve mall over cooked bones in sauce calling them«wings». This place can actually make wings and tastey meals while smiling. Welcome change!

We came here because we wanted a place where we could get food with a god Greek flavor at a decent price. Considering the prices were affordable the place is definitely worth trying, however there are some areas for improvement. We started with the hummus which had a great flavor– the plate of hummus was huge however we were given maybe 8 small triangles of pita(cold and not that fresh tasting). We devoured it in a minute and had to immediately ask for more. The second batch of bread was warm from the oven and awesome. Wish there was more consistency here. For my entrée I had the gyro pita which was good but the sauce came on the side and When I went to open the little plastic cup I noticed it was separating. Although it tasted good it was off putting. My wife had the Greek pasta– again it tasted pretty good, but there was so much on the plate that it really put us off. Overall the food and service were pretty good, but a couple simple changes in portion sizes and consistency would really elevate the place.

Love this place– the service is excellent, fast and accurate– the food is delicious– I’ve never had anything bad– I had the pastisio(sp?) yuuuuuum. Wanted to lick my plate. I love the red sauce. The dish was perfect– took half home– I will get it with green beans next time as too much starch with the rice. We split the tommy salad– yuuuuuuuuum! Delicious salad– finely chopped– wish I could get all salads chopped like that– hubs was disappointed with the misleading of 6 grape leaves appetizer — as it was really only 3 cut into halves– The bread is fresh and yummy

amazingly delicious greek food with generous portion sizes. we had the little tommy’s appetizer platter to start and the pastitsio(greek lasagna) and lamb chops. this was a bit too much for two for dinner but we don’t regret it one bit… now we have a little something for lunch tomorrow. the greek lasagna has a bit of a cinnamon flavor which was a pleasant surprise. the lamb chops fall right off the bone-a must for all lamb lovers. of course even though stuffed to them brim i had to get a baklava to-go and i’m glad i did! we can’t wait to come back and try some other items on the menu

I have been to Big Tommy’s three times and have also used the carry out. So, I have a good feel for the restaurant. Big Tommy’s is an upscale greek restaurant with a large menu and very good food. Do you like lamb chops? They are huge, tender and full of flavor. My favorite meal is the chicken meatball entrée. .. they are not meatballs, but full flavored greek chicken patties. The Greek salads are fantastic as well. Prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is decidedly upscale for dinner but I also feel comfortable going in shorts. Carry out is quick and efficient. Highly recommended.

It is time to get your Greek sausage on! I’m telling you, this is the best invention since Saganaki. And like Saganaki, it’s served flaming, tableside. And by «it» I mean a plate full of deliciously crisp and savory sausages. My mouth is watering just talking about You really can’t go wrong with any of the food here. It is all good. And Tommy’s has a well-stocked, full bar, including a decent wine list. I say yay!

So I now know why this place is so busy. Before being Tommy’s, this location turnover like clockwork every 12 months into a new place. We never went to this place because of the continuing changes of restaurants, and its not really near anything else. Its not like its on a dirt road, back behind the expressway, but it is along Grand River and its more of a place you drive by than a destination. OK, so this is a nice upscale diner. With a big menu, lots of options, with a greek influence, but you can get what you want, or you are not trying. Big portions, friendly staff, fast on their feet, what’s not to love. Its a little noisey, but that’s because its a popular place. We are coming back to try breakfast.
