Taki Japanese Restaurant

Sushi, miso, tempura all very good and good portions. Better than any Japanese restaurant in San Rafael so we travel North to Taki. The staff is great. My two year old son likes the food and fish pond.

I am not a sushi person by any means but I came here as a request to one of my friends because she loves sushi. I will say the atmosphere in this place a pretty cool. They offer seating in the restaurant in which you have to take off your shoes as a custom (definitely my favorite part of the experience).
Now for anyone who isn’t a big sushi person like myself I do suggest the tiger rolls. I got to sample a few other things but this one definitely was a good way to not give up on sushi. My friends loved the food so if you do enjoy sushi I do recommend trying this place and definitely sitting at the table without shoes to feel the whole experience.

Best sushi in Marin, not even close. Freshness, flavor, quantity, vibrancy, and aesthetics of the food is amazing. Just look at pictures of rainbow roll; bountiful, beautiful, fresh, and tasted amazing.

Prices a little steep overall. But the food is tasty, and the service was excellent. The various sushi rolls we ordered were quite good. Food portions large. I would return.

I came here on a dinner date with my friend and I wasn’t impressed with the food. I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate, it came with a side salad and miso soup. The soup was good but the chicken had a weird after taste, at least to me. I was expecting the food to taste better than it did. I will say that their service was excellent, we walked in and were seated immediately. I won’t be going back.

We ate here tonight. our server was great. I ordered a spider roll with the avicado on the side as i am allergic to the fruit b ut my isn’t so she can have that came with my order… our food came. guess what. avocado in the roll that i ordered… of course they placed my order together with my wifes order on the same plate. when i told our server she immediately said she will have the kitchen re-​order me a new one apologizing for the mistake. She came back after a few minutes with the owner and the ower said just remove the avocado and eat it. …really and have an Anaphylactic shock and die… really the owner asks a patron if they can just remove the avocado. wow… anyway she agrees to make us a new one… then she sends back our server and tells her to take back the plate and bring it back to the kitchen, with my wifes food in the same plate that she was already eating. this is very unsanitary and the health department should be aware of this practice and i will make sure that they look into this practice. food service managers are trained that went prepared food passes the counter that it does not come back into the kitchen. .my wife was half way through her food and they want to take it back to the kitchen with the roll that had avocado and do what… they want to save a buck and re-​use the crab inside the roll. omg. these guys are such a rip-​off… the food wasn’t even good. then we get the bill and the poor server tells us they will have her pay for the kitchen’s mistake. so i told her it’s ok. i paid for 2 orders of the spider roll that had no taste and left the waitress a $ 10 tip despite of the mistake on the order. i have never been to a restaurant that is willing to loose future business and charge their customers the$ 15 extra for a mistake their kitchen made… the server pleads with us not to put in a review on Unilocal as she may get fired.
If she does she is better off. i wouldn’t want to work for someone who treats their customers this way. we love small businesses and support them but when they mistreat the same local customers that make their business thrive then it’snot worth supporting. … we came here to see the place and planned on having my daughter’s bday party and wanted to rent the tatami room. more than likely an easy $ 1k transaction. … but this experience has left such a bad taste that we won’t even bother… i will go to sushiholic. or some other place. stay away!.. place SUCKS and def not cheap!

Don’t come here if you are expecting good service. We came here for lunch and were seated within 10 minutes of arrival. However, once they took our order it took them more than 20 minutes to bring the food out. Mind you, we were a party of two, and to top off our frustration the table of FOUR which was seated AFTER us received their meal 10 minutes before we received ours. We had to ask a server to check on our food and she proceeded to clean tables rather than make us, the customer, a priority. Very disappointing and horrible customer service.

Always a favorite of mine. I go here most every year for my birthday. The fish is very fresh, and compared to most other sushi place it focuses more on the fish than fancy sauces — which is what I like. If you like good, fresh sushi with little to no sauce on it, this is your place. The service could be better, but it’s still pretty good and food comes in a timely manner. Always packed on a Friday night though, so be prepared to wait…

I eat here often. The sushi is great, but if you’re not in the the mood, they have plenty of other options. I’ve had a lot of different things at this restaurant. The only sushi like item I’ve had is the California rolls. I liked them. I come here with sushi lovers and they always enjoy it too. Their teriyaki dishes are great. I sometimes order the child’s portion of beef teriyaki because it comes with more food than the adult portion. Not sure why that is. It comes with coleslaw (which is typically heavy on the dressing, but I’m into that sort of thing), miso soup and veggie tempura. I’ve also recently discovered the pot stickers. That’s my new favorite dish here. It’s called Gyoza. I get that for dinner most of the time because it comes with 8 pot stickers and coleslaw. I can never eat the whole thing by myself. I’ve never had a bad meal here. It’s a fun place to take visitors for a special dinner. You can get the table in the back where you take your shoes off and kind of sit on the floor (only it’s more comfy than that). The service is good, it’s not the best but not bad either. They give you tea pretty much as soon as you sit down and some hot towels to clean your hands off. One last thing… Chocolate mochi for dessert! They might have other flavors but who cares?

This is the first step. The second step takes me to my drug dealer of choice — Taki Sushi.
Taki features a large bar where you can enjoy the vast skills of the sushi masters at work. There are two large tables in the back (no shoes please!) if you have a large group or plenty of tables to accommodate couples or families. There is also plenty of outdoor seating which is ideal during the hot summer months (and you can enjoy outdoor concerts then too!)
The menu has all of the usual choices and plenty of cooked (Yakitori, etc) options so even the most finicky eaters will find something to enjoy. Kids (and parents) will enjoy the yummy mochi for dessert (chocolate ones are really awesome.)
The staff is outstanding, friendly and fast. Even when I come here starving and the place is packed I don’t get crazed waiting — bam! Food on the table.
I get take out about half of the time and they always carefully and thoughtfully pack the food. In fact, take out appears to be a steady part of their business — especially on Fridays evenings so instead of a short 15 – 20 minute wait you may have to plan for 30 – 35 minutes before you pick up your order (pssst that’s a tip.)
Definitely a 5 star experience. I don’t expect I’ll get cured of my addiction.

Taki is my ultimate favorite hands-​down. I love their menu, their fish is super fresh and their sushi chefs really know what they’re doing… The only thing I wish they had was more employees since service can be slow occasionally.

It is so good! The sushi rolls are huge, and the fish is always so fresh. Also, we’ve been coming her for years, so we really love the staff, and how friendly they are. On busy nights, the service can get a little slow, but I’d never dock a star because the food is too delicious. It’s really hard to eat here and then go to a different Japanese Restaurant. It just never compares to Taki
Their tempura is awesome and we really love their poki!
The rolls are huge! The rainbow roll and crazy roll are our favorites. The bento boxes are huge and come with so much food. The beef teriyaki and hamachi kama are probably my favorite cooked items, as well as the agedashi tofu. (jeez, see! i can’t even narrow this stuff down. everything is so good)

A co-​worker took me here for lunch since we were in the area. In the Bay Area, sushi is everywhere. So I tend to judge harder. Taki is a pretty spacious joint and has interior design to make you really feel like you’re in a tradition Japanese restaurant.
I thought our waitress was hilarious — she wasn’t intending to be. It’s like she wasn’t really listening to what you had to say, but in a way that I found comical. Other would probably find her annoying.
I ordered the bento box, which was a pretty decent portion. The teryaki salmon was grilled nicely and the sauce was tasty. I liked that they gave more than 3 pieces of the CA roll with the bento!
Not bad for lunch!

The fish is always fresh and delicious.

This is the sushi spot closest to home (we should walk). They’re always fast, friendly, and fresh. Is it the best sushi in Novato? Yes. Is it the best sushi in Marin or the Bay Area? No. But for our take-​out or dine-​in sushi nights, there is nothing better. Plus, they have brown rice. This is a must for me as far as sushi is concerned.
I brought a friend’s four-​year-​old son to pick up the take out a few months back and they gave him food to feed the Koi’s. He was in heaven. This restaurant is always packed because the staff are kind & courteous and the fish is good for the price — check it out if you need a sushi spot in Novato!

You get the typical selection of sushi and Japanese food. But I have to say that I think the quality of the food is better than the other places in Novato.
The one thing that stops me from giving a 4^th star is sometimes the service can be slow. I made reservations before and they can take some time to seat you.

Fresh fish and other seafood in sushi rolls. I like that they use real crab in the California rolls. They also serve a huge cup of really good tea at no extra charge (I often ask for more). Whenever I am in Novato I like to eat here as it is one of the best sushi restaurants in Marin county. You can also call in for take out, and is in the same shopping area as Paradise Foods.

Wow, lots of negative reviews, which is too bad, but you can’t make everyone happy.
I’ve been going to Taki since at least the late 90s. Never had a bad experience there, always good. Friendly staff too.
I was there with my family recently and my Mom decided to order a different dish from the usual. She didn’t like it, and while she didn’t complain to the waiter, she made clear she didn’t want to take the leftovers home because she didn’t like it. Reviewing the bill moments later, we realized he had scratched the charge for that dish off the bill.
I thought that was pretty cool.

My all time favorite restaurant around right now! I can’t stay away from it. I get their cucumber salad, their chicken katsu and California roll combo, the pot stickers and sometimes I get the chicken terriaki.
My tummy leaves feeling full and satisfied every time I go. The service is okay (aka not personable or friendly) but they do a great job at getting the food to you quickly. They start off giving you a hot rag for your hands along with water and hot green tea.
Most of the meals come with miso soup and 2 delicious salads. One is a ginger tasting salad and the other is cabbage with a cream dressing. (soooo good!)
I can’t eat here everyday if it was more affordable. It does cost an arm and a leg. But well worth it. Me and my boyfriend get the combo dinner with 2 appetizers and it’s the perfect amount of food. Our plates are empty and our tummies are full. :)
