This shopping center embodies all that is new and great about Novato! I’m a Marin County native — grew up in Kentfield and San Rafael. Back when I was a kid, Novato was sort of always considered the«ugly step-child» of the Marin County family. It wasn’t the ghetto or anything, but it just wasn’t a destination town. There were no good restaurants, shops, or anything noteworthy. And then about 10 years ago or so, something happened. Novato started to change(in a good way). New shops and restaurants started to pop up in the downtown area. And then lo and behold, the Hamilton Marketplace opened up and put the Southern Marin back in to the Northern Marin. Hamilton Marketplace is about as nice a shopping center as you’re going to find in ALL of Marin. It’s clean, spacious, and beautifully landscaped. They have a variety of restaurants(everything from La Boulange, to Toast, to the new Super Duper Burger) plenty of interesting retail shops, and a Safeway grocery store. They even have a Massage Envy! The shopping center not only caters to its family-friendly community, it also helps elevate it to something classy. I’m happy to report that Novato is worth visiting. And Hamilton Marketplace is one of the reasons why!

Hamilton Marketplace is no longer new, but it’s certainly not old yet. Starting with Safeway, Hamilton has been making Novato better(imho, I guess) since about 2008. Besides the Safeway, Hamilton is mostly about good dining. There is Toast, where I love to eat pizza with egg on it. It was a great place to take my grandma — good parking, a menu that pleases everyone, and a view of the hills(yes across a freeway) that she always loved. There is La Boulange, where the pastries and café are delicious, and can be enjoyed outside by the foutain. Oddly, I had my last cuppa coffee with an ex as I moved out of state. There is also Sonoma Latina Grill, where you can enjoy a quick burrito, crispy salad, or nice glass of sangria. When my dad and I used a groupon here, he was super impressed with the service and the crunchy romaine. There is more, too. I remember that when Hamilton first opened my coworker gushed about how amazing it all was. At this point, I’ll concede. She was right, this is a pretty great shopping center.
