GeGee’s Threadworks Sewing & Upholstery Studio

I needed to have 2 bar stools, seat and back, recovered. These stools were lovingly recovered by my seamstress aunt, years ago. She did a beautiful job on them but it had been 25 years and it was time to recover them.
Living in Novato, choices are limited so I went to GeGee’s. I wanted the seats padded, as they were pretty flat. I brought fabric with me.
I was told «Thursday». Which gave GeGee about 6 days. I went in on Thursday and my fabric was sitting on a pile. I was given a story about people quitting and she got behind. Could you gave called me? She said Monday for sure. I got there Monday at 10:30. Closed. I called that afternoon and was told Saturday for sure. I called Saturday morning, 4:00.
I picked them up, they were wrapped in plastic. I paid $ 189.31.
The frames of the stools were not painted so I didn’t attempt to put them back together until today (2 months later).
I unwrapped the cushions and realized what a horrible job she’d done.
Everything was stapled and the staples were pulling out. I hand sewed the cover myself and pulled the staples out. The bottom of the seat has the bare wood showing, the batting hanging out and rough edges on the material. All stapled.
I am not an upholsterer but I sincerely believe I could have done a better job.
I’m so sad. I should have left them the way they were.

So happy that we have a sewing shop in Novato!!! I went today for the first time and it was great. The owner offers sewing and upholstery classes and services. Very reasonably priced, friendly, and hugely helpful for a beginning sewer!
