I’ve eaten here half a dozen times since my previous review. I’ve had most of the menu items and this place is due for an upgrade in stars. The cochon de lait poboy is without a doubt a 5 star affair. The brisket is good and the ribs are great. The bread pudding is not to be missed should you have room left over — which is admittedly unlikely. The BBQ here isn’t as smoky as the offerings from The Joint or Blue Oak. It bridges the competition style with a soul food take on ‘cue. It is delicious and I think I’m becoming a regular.

Some of the best bbq in NOLA. Walk up counter, community seating, no fountain drinks, and served in a styrofoam containers. Nevertheless, the bbq is awesome. I had the sampler, which allowed me to enjoy the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. Was enough for two but I wasn’t interested in sharing. Looking forward to a return visit.

This place has the best Cochon de Lait sandwiches! I’ve had it several times and the quality and flavor is always consistent. The ribs and beef brisket is very tender, and chicken is pretty good too. Note: Walker’s was once a Cash Only business, but the ATM was recently stolen, so they now accept credit/debit cards.

It’s really really good. Right up there with The Joint for best in the city. There are some quirks to this place everyone needs to be aware of. They will randomly be closed, sometimes for a whole week during Jazzfest. It’s just part of the deal. It’s a walk up counter and the seating is shared with another restaurant. Their location isn’t that great if you don’t love in the east. Other than that. Awesome food. Sauce is homemade and unique. Eat here!

This is the best BBQ I have found in New Orleans. The brisket and ribs are smoked like they are supposed to be, so they are tender, juicey, and flavorful enough that they don’t need any sauce. The sides are very good. The décor is perfect for a true BBQ joint, minimalist. The folks who work here aren’t smiling and cheery like at some fast food BBQ«restaurant.» They are surly, like they have been up since 4am tending a smoker full of deliciousness! The only drawbacks are that the food is a bit pricey, they have limited hours, and they are cash only.

My husband and I visited this unique business and all I can say is YUMMY. We eat a lot of BBQ but I must say — this is the best so far. We tried the ribs, brisket and Smoked Chicken Salad. The food is fresh and very reasonably priced. The portions are very generous. Customer service — great and very friendly. We will be back.

These 5 stars are pretty much for the famed Cochon de Lait. Truly one of the best sandwiches ever, with melt in your mouth port and crunchy slaw. They also give you homemade barbecue sauce, which is excellent. Not the cheapest ever but definitely worth the trip out to the lake. You’ll see a lot of locals here, not touristy at all! As others have noted, check their hours and call before you go. They close at random times sometimes and they might run out of the Cochon pork. But lots of places in NOLA are like that, so you just have to check before you go.

It took a lot of deliberation to give this place 3 stars; leaning on the low side. The meat was cooked well, sauce was pretty good too, the atmosphere has all the romantic makings of a old-school pit, but thats not enough to make a BBQ joint worth going back to. Simply said the only reason why this place isn’t worth the drive to is because its overpriced. $ 11 for 2 slices of brisket on a poboy? No thanks and never again. Even the Cochon de lait poboy was stuffed mostly with coleslaw rather than pork. I got really excited about the jerky too, seeing as how i havent had any good stuff since living north of the Mason Dixon line, but alas, my $ 5 paid bought only 3 slices. Count’em, only 3 pieces! Very dissapointed after high hopes…

Brisket was very good, and in large chunks very tender They close when they run out of food though so get there early.

If their Cochon de Lait PoBoy isn’t the best sandwich I’ve ever had, it was certainly close! Sure, it’s a bit out of the way. Yeah, the hours aren’t very convenient. Yet, for me, the sheer deliciousness of their pulled pork, ribs, and cole slaw(a weird thing to get excited about), outweigh the negatives.

Ok. ya’ll know how I feel ’bout my bar-b-que!!! It’s one of the last things I would ever want to eat in this lifetime. I like this place. We used to go down here with my family when I lived in the east and it’s every bit as good now as it was then. Maybe, it is bc it brings back memories for me, but whatever the reason– I like it– a lot! That sauce does something to me… Love it~

Great greens! A bit overpriced, but truly good food. The hours are weird. I’ve gone here several times when they should have been open and they were definitely closed. Other times I’ve gone, with my palette prepared for greens, or beans, and have been told the are completely out of some things on the menu. I took off a few stars for the inconsistency, but if the spot would be rated on the quality of the bar b q and other sides, etc, I would have given it 5 stars.

Walkers is back open for business after a renovation and the bbq is better than ever. It always was the best smokehouse in the city and one of the oldest. You cant taste the smoke right down to the bone with pink ends, absolutely perfect. This place is so special because they are only open for lunch and they close when they run out so catching them is a delicacy to be savored. Their sauce is not the best but when you have meat as well seasoned like they do you dont need sauce. What makes this place better than the other joints around town is that their sides are far superior, pick any of them and they are all great. With excellent cole slaw and baked beans this is as close to bbq heaven as you can get in New Orleans. They still dont accept credit cards and they dont have an atm. The atm at castnet is busted next door so come with cash before you go.

I’m shocked that this place only has 9 reviews. No question. The Cochon De Lait PoBoy is alongside Mother’s Ferdi’s Special, Nap House’s Muffaletta, Liuzza’s BBQ Shrimp PB, and Casamento’s Oyster Loaf for best sandwich in the city. Do the hours suck? Yes. Is it a pain in the ass to get here? Yes. Seriously, this sandwich is stupid good. And, it’s cheap.

HOOOOWEEEEE is this some damn tasty pig they serve up! I see why this place is so popular! The cochon de lait po boy is swinetastic. Large, super tender pork topped with coleslaw and BBQ sauce. I make them hold the coleslaw because i don’t care for mayo and grab a side of the greens. They are excellent with a healthy chunks o’ pork nestled in the greeny, garlicy goodness adding mega flavor. Everyone here is nice, and its a great spot for lunch on the go.

The Cochon de Lait Po’ Boy is the best sandwich in New Orleans and at Jazzfest and might be one of the best sandwiches in the country. GREAT. GOOGLY. MOOGLY. Salivary glands working overtime!

The Cochon De Lait poboy is all I’ve had and all I really care to. The pork is incredibly tender and flavorful, accentuated with a crisp coleslaw and delicious tangy sauce. Daniel has it brought it home to me when he returns from work in the East and even cold, it’s absolutely delicious. I’ve heard the sides are good but I have yet to venture out of my comfort zone. Because comfort is good. Soooooo good.

As good as it gets for sure! The portions are huge, the barbecue is one of the best I’ve tasted anywhere, and the price is insanely cheap(but I’m from Cali so maybe my perception of cheap is skewed) This place was packed when we came and now I understand why. The ribs were perfectly cooked(feel right off the bone). The bbq sauce had just the right sweetness.

This place is among the best barbecue I’ve tasted in Louisiana. The meat was near perfectly cooked, the portions are huge, and the sauce is homemade and has an incredible flavor. I couldn’t decide what to get, so I got the sampler, brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. I could hardly eat much after I got past the ribs. And they use good meat too, the ribs where nice and big and had just the right amount of fat. You could probably just order three and be plenty full. This place is famous for the cochon de lait po boy which they sell at Jazz Fest, apparently under the name«Love At First Bite». None of us ventured to try that, we all thought we would judge their traditional barbecue first. Now that they have passed that test I’ll be surely to go back and give that a try. Especially since I don’t see my self dishing out cash for a ticket to jazz fest. This place would run right up against Ms. Hysters in my mind if i liked there sides. Two of the sides are mayo based, I hate mayo. The other sides are baked beans and mustard greens. Both were not particularly spectacular. But perhaps the clientele likes it better than me. All I’m sayin is, where is the mac and cheese? This place is also situated in a great locale, across the street from the levee/lake ponchartrain, next to castnet seafood, and down the street from a snowball stand. Can’t beat that. I cannot stress giving this place a try, just call ahead, it’s open weird hours and is too far away to show up and not get anything.
