AMAZING Italian food, great place if your looking for a quiet evening! I took a minute to read some of the reviews on this place, and i must say I am shocked. It’s a quiet low key *keyword here* ITALIAN restaurant. If your looking for Mexican, Asian, Thai etc… Maybe this isn’t your spot! I’ve been to Tony Angelos probably 8 times and I’ve never left feeling anything less than completely satisfied with the experience. It’s higher end and prices reflect a bit but I always feel like I got my money’s worth. With that being said, it is the type of place that requires the evening… Which is great if you are taking your wife, or have a hot date, or have company in town and want to visit… But if your looking for somewhere to pop in and be out in thirty minutes, then this isn’t your spot either. Expect an hour at the table, more if you get the ‘Feed Me’. Hope my review helps in your decision.

I’m not really a big fan of Italian food but we went for our friends birthday! Place is very cute and cozy! I was excited to see what they have in store for our dining experience! We waited about 30 min for menus! No drinks no nothing for 30 min! When our server John came to the table with less then stellar attitude we already knew it was going to be mediocre! One of my friends ask what is the soup of the day, he retorted with it don’t matter anyway we out so our the other two! Our other friend ask does one dish have any dairy because he is lactose intolerant, he replied with«just order something else!» I ordered the side of portabella mushrooms. He brought out button mushroom with something else on the plate. I requested for our server to tell him it was the wrong dish, he then snatched the plate from me and ran back! He finally came back and said«We out want something else!» With a very rude tone! I stayed quite the whole time while eating our lukewarm dinner! Will never return! Hope John realize that he is in the service industry! Meaning hope will change his attitude and give better service to people who just want to enjoy a great dining experience!

If you are Italian, this is really the only Italian restaurant you really would want to go to in New Orleans. Their food is authentic southern Italian. They are very consistent with their quality and have been open for at least 30 or so years. Their most popular thing to order is called the«feed me». This is like a 10 course meal and it’s basically what lever the chef wants to send out. It’s great if you can eat all that food, because it’s a ton of food. My personal favorite is the steamed artichoke, which is NOTONTHEMENU. It’s a freshly steamed artichoke that is marinated in homemade Italian dressing. Well I’m glad it’s not really on the menu, because they always run out of it. You must ask specifically for it. I also think that the eggplant park is one of the best I’ve ever had. My favorite dessert is the amaretto cheesecake. The portion is quite tiny, so don’t think you’re going to split dessert. Oh I forgot to mention, make a reservation, you’re going to need one because they book up quickly.

I visited Tony Angello’s while attending a conference in New Orleans and our group ordered the Feed Me menu. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the place or the food but it just wasn’t my favorite experience. The waiters parade food out at breakneck speed– 10 courses in all. The food was good, but not great. The prices didn’t seem to be overly priced but again, it was good food not great. In a city where you have so many options for a great dining experience Tony Angello’s gets lost(in my opinion)

I really wanted to like this place. Really, I did. The location is in an upscale area of New Orleans(Lakeview) and it appears to be in a old residence there. There was ample parking and the interior of the restaurant is simply beautiful. It’s hushed, has a quiet little bar in an alcove off the dining room and has two private dining rooms. I was there with a large party of 15 and we had one of the private dining rooms which was nice. However, that’s where the charm ended. We couldn’t get refills on water. My husband had to ask 4 times for sugar for his iced tea. The entrees were served cold to luke warm. The portions(and no, we did not order the«feed me» although one of the waiters talked my 80 year old mother in law into ordering one of the«course» style meals after she told him it was too much food!) were tasting sized… except for my salad which was fairly good sized but was so oily I could not eat it. I ordered the veal with mushrooms and peppers… thinking that I would get paneed veal, red sauce, mushrooms and cooked green peppers. I got a dried out piece of breaded veal cutlet, some canned mushrooms and two raw slices of pepper on the side of the plate. It came with about a half of cup of angel hair pasta in some watery red sauce Are you kidding me? For $ 18.95? My husband ordered chicken parmigiana. I’ve never seen parmigiana served without cheese. It was a breaded cutlet of chicken with some red sauce spooned over it. Big deal. I can make that at home for a lot less money. I had to laugh because my husband told me that he had been at Tony Angelos about 25 years ago when he was in high school. After dinner last night, he told me that it would likely be another 25 years before he’d go there again. That’s a bit too soon for me. I could have gone to Vincents.

This is an old school type of place. The food is heavy and the sauce is thin. The bar is probably one of the better ones in the area to sit and have a nice conversation. The restaurant is better for groups of 4 –8. It is the atmosphere and style of serving/service that make this place different. The Feed Me option(where they bring you out a 5 – 8 course meal over a few hours) is worth doing. While you can get better food, and better Italian food for that matter, elsewhere, Tony’s is good for what it it… an old school place with an old school feel. I’d say the overall dining experience here is more the reason for going that the food. I recommend the frog legs and the filet over angel hair pasta is you don’t get the Feed Me.

Charming Italian restaurant with an awesomely old school vibe. Veal off the chain. Pasta straight from Heaven. Tableside singing in Italian. This place is classic.

Maybe 25 years ago Tony Angelo’s was a good experience. Not the case today. I have been here twice within the past 6 months. I will probably not return. Service was horrific. Food was average to below average. No food item that I ordered came out hot. Warm to lukewarm. In 2015, how can a restaurant this size not have a POS??? That’s the start of Tony Angelo’s issues.

This place. I was excited to try this place especially because it’s in my neighborhood. What’s the hype about? It’s Overpriced Ragu. I’ve heard so much good stuff about the food here but what a disappointment. I started with the stuffed shrimp. Now I’m not sure if they ran out of food because it was nye but damn the stuffed shrimp was about the size of my pinky finger if that big. Sad part is that had I known it was gonna be the best part of the meal I would have ordered 5 of them and called it a night. I somehow made three bites out of that order. Next I ordered soup of the day which was typical cabbage sausage soup for nye but instead the waitress brings out artichoke oyster soup because they ran out of soup of the day. Thanks for asking because just so happens I don’t like oyster soup. Let’s move on to the famous eggplant Tina. Basically deep fried eggplant squares soaked in Ragu sauce. What more can I say. Next was sausage and peppers. Looked more like two burned lil smokies. Seriously. Burned to a crisp. But hey it’s ok just pour Ragu on it. Next let’s see was the cannelloni — basically frozen spinach and ricotta cheese under not inside the pasta. Joy. Now the best part! Dessert! So exciting right? Ice box pie. Waitress brought out a tablespoon of it. I can’t say if it was good or not because it takes at least three bites to do so. But that’s ok because she also brought out a piece of tiramisu and one cannoli the size of yes my pinky again. We ordered ice box pie and cannolis but hey that’s ok it doesn’t matter that neither of us like tiramisu. Two stars bc parking was easy.

Terrible. Expensive and not worth the money. I think this must be a nostalgic place for some people because I can’t understand what anyone sees in it. Really one of the worst meals I have have ever eaten, but especially in New Orleans, where there are too many good restaurants to ever waste your time or money on a place like this.

An oldie but a goodie. I haven’t been to this place in forever and it was as good as I remembered. My daughter and I went pretty early one evening for a quick bite and ended up having a feast. We had the artichoke to start– it was ok. But everything that followed was delicious. A good traditional red sauce. I had the veal Parmesan, which was so good. A little more red sauce than I wanted, but hey the ambiance of the place makes up for that. Next time I go back I hope to have a big appetite and do the«feed me» menu!

This is a place for NOLA locals, by NOLA locals. My boyfriend and his mother chose this restaurant for dinner, and I was blown away by the quality of the service and the food. The menu is setup differently, based upon pre-defined multi-course offerings; however there are al a carte options as well if you want to choose your own pairings. I had the minestrone as a starter and the braised rabbit and tomato for my entrée. Both were perfectly prepared and highly recommended. If you want a break from the typical Cajun/Creole/Seafood options I definitely recommend this place!

Being from out of town I would have never found this place by myself. It looks like any house in the neighborhood and has very plain signs. It was recommended by friends. There were nine of us including one child. We tried to make reservations for 530pm, but left a message in a voicemail. When we arrived there was a table for us. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. I anticipated a wait during service because of our party size and the fact that it was Saturday night but three and a half hours was long. The tables were so close together that the whole three hours we were there people kept bumping into my chair. Our waitress brought menus and explained the service. We ordered and waited and waited and waited. She came back and offered to bring the kids meal out because he looked hungry. He ordered fried shrimp and asked for ketchup to dip it in. She said that the place had no ketchup but brought McDonalds ketchup packets to him from her stash. More people arrived and I saw our waitress bussing and waiting on those tables. There were multiple bus boys but none of them seemed concerned with helping our waitress. I ate two rolls and waited a hour for a water refill I had to ask two people for. The first guy said he would refill our table’s water and never returned. Thirty minutes later I asked someone else who got us refills. We got our Italian salads they were hot limp oily leaves with no flavor. A hour later the Eggplant I ordered arrived. It was tasty but I only got a 2“x2″ portion and was starving by time my food arrived. Our party wanted dessert but decided to skip it from this place. We could not get our waitresses attention to request the check. To get her attention we left one member of our party to pay. He said she noticed everyone leaving and came over minutes after we were gone. Over priced for the bad service. I can never get back those three and a half hours of my life. Save yourself this punishment and do not come here.

Holy Red Gravy, Batman!!! I thought I knew from previous reviewers what I was getting myself into with this restaurant, which is to say, red gravy atop every dish. What I didn’t realize was that the red gravy would be as unmemorable and overly saccharine as it was. I, for the life of me, cannot understand how their dining room is so consistently full when each and every dish that was served was lackluster, underseasoned, and sloppy. Additionally, I really hope our server was high because otherwise he needs to be checked for premature dementia. We requested a wine list 3 times before receiving it(almost wish we hadn’t, as bad as the selections were). Then, we requested wine glasses twice, which finally had to be repossessed from another table. It also occurred to him that bread was never offered… as he was bringing the check. I can think of plenty of other things I’d like to spend over $ 125 on, and one of them would be whatever the server was smoking out back.

This is the best italian I’ve had in NOLA.(Aside from the chain Bucca de Beppo) With that said, it still has room for improvement. The décor is great. You feel like you’re at your italian family’s house for Sunday dinner. The server was nice and as good as he could be given the extremly busy night and a large table of complaining people. The layout of the menu is awful! The worst menu I’ve ever seen. Its very confusing, doesnt have ANY descriptions, and come to find out you can order several things not listed on the menu. And as is the issue with most italian restaurants in NOLA — there is more to italian food than red sauce. I wish they had more options. A piccata or white wine sauce would be great. After the waiter patiently explained almost every item on the menu to me, we went for the PASTAVACCA for 2. This pasta has a smoked bacon cream sauce with peas and a touch of red sauce. It was delicious. The bacon was smokey and the peas were fresh and crisp. The CANNOLINI are stuffed with ground pork, spinach, and ricotta served in a red sauce. You can order as little or as much as you like. We got 1 as a sampler. It was rather bland and the pasta didnt hold its shape well. It resembled a calamari. The red sauce is very thin but was flavorful with lots of garlic. We got 2MEATBALLS(not on the menu) as a sampler. They were good but a little on the dry side. Make sure you have enough red sauce to eat it with. The MARINATEDMUSHROOMS were my favorite. They are raw — surprisingly. But have tons of garlic and herbs. I wanted to drink the olive oil sauce they were in. so good! Last thing we ate was the osso bucco. It was fatty but had decent flavor. The boyfriend liked it. We ate a ton of food and had a bottle of wine for less than $ 100. This place has great prices. Try finding a pasta dish for 2 for less than $ 20 any where else in the city!

Classic Old Sytle Italian Food. REDGRAVY — Yeah! Great meal with series of small plates until you are completely full. The delicious New Orleans style Italian Red Gravy on almost everything tastes wonderful. Great pastas and Veal Parm(my favorite item here). Really anything is wonderful with their homeade red gravy. I often dont think of this restaurant when headed out to dinner, largely due to the location(I live downtown and rarely make it out to Lakeview). However, I have never been disappointed with the food and always remark at how I should eat here more often(after dining here). I just wish that it were closer to downtown… As others have pointed out, it is easy to miss this restaurant with the lack of signage and the fact that it is located in a house in a neighborhood. Once you arrive, you feel like you have stepped back in time(in a good way) where you are not rushed and are able to enjoy your feast.

So this place is hidden away and it just looks like somebody’s house in the neighborhood. When you walk up to it you might think you’re sneaking into a secret mafia joint that you will need a secret password or membership card to get in. You WILL need a very big appetite because Tony Angello’s is famous for their FEEDME menus!!! If you dare to order the main Feed Me menu(and don’t eat all day if you plan to) be prepared for about 30 courses(or more) that just goes and goes and goes for what begins to seem like hours as your belly gets so full but you can’t stop eating all the tasty goodness. The only dish I’ve consistently heard people say they aren’t that wild about is the cold beef salad(it isn’t bad it’s just not as good as all the other stuff and it is cold beef so ahhh yeah beef better hot). They have a lot of other fantastic options on the menu but everybody should experience the ecstasy and pain of the Feed Me at least once in their lives!
