Quite frankly, this is the only shop in America like this(and I’ve lived all over, including San Diego, the home of the military). They have such a huge selection of antiques for military and history buffs. I’ve bought many soldiers from here and they are all wonderfully made and designed. One of the coolest things about this shop is that it’s not Politically Correct in any way. You can buy a figure of evil men like Mousselini, Hitler or Stalin while also purchasing one of heroes like Admiral Nimitz and the Tuskeegee Airmen. On top of the incredible selection of rare model soldiers, this shop is also staffed by some wonderful people. My last visit was the weekend before Mardi Gras and I ended up going twice because I just couldn’t stop thinking about a soldier I didn’t get. When I returned, I was greeted as an old friend and even given a big piece of Bavarian Cream King Cake(the best kind of King Cake)…I just wish Sword and Pen(Le Petit Soldier Shop) was in San Diego like me!

I was scolded the moment I walked through the door because I missed the sign on the door that says«no drinks». I mean REALLY– an adult with a lidded coffee at 10 am in an empty store? Most everything is behind glass anyway! To be fair– the selection of antiques, medals and figurines is of very good quality with ‘somewhat’ competitive pricing.

This is one of my favorite stores on Royal Street. Inside, there are hand-cast, hand painted toy soldiers and historical figures from all places and time periods. Each has an incredible amount of detail. The store staff are particular about photographs and drinks, but they are quite friendly and helpful.
