Really this is just Rock n Bowl’s food. It was an OK burger but a bit overpriced, undersized and better burgers to my taste are available nearby. They call this place«Front Porch Grill» now but are serving Straight Stick Ranch burgers along with some other interesting food. If you find yourself bowling here its a decent place to grab some food for convenience sake but I think I would prefer just running over to Ye Olde College Inn.

Overall, this is a petite-sized mediocre $ 10 burger with boring potato chips($ 9 + tax) and its just not worth the price. The Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company is a good place to get a burger out of convenience, however, there are better burger joints out there(that actually have bathrooms)! Everything about this burger stand says ‘here is your food, now leave’. There are no condiments or napkins readily available(you have to ask for them, and when the arrogant staff is busy helping others, you are waiting and waiting while your food gets cold.) There are no easily accessible restrooms unless you are over 21 and want to pay a $ 10 cover to get into Rock’NBowl. There are no trays, plates or clam-shell style containers; your burger and chips are tightly kramed into a small(3“x3“x9″) pastry box that is ready to travel and difficult to eat from(there is no room in the box to pour your ketchup for your ‘fresh fried potatoes’.) The Burger was not bad, but not great either. Did the 100% Louisiana Grass Feed Beef really make a difference? Not Really. The burger was grilled over gas. It was pretty juicy and a bit spicy with a need of salt. The bruger was not very big. It was a petite sized patty on a petite sized maple bun, but the bun tasted like a bun… nothing special at all! By the time I had finished eating, I was really not hungry anymore, but I was not satisfactorily full either(I am a big guy and when I am working on the road in New Orleans, I like to have my a little extra lunch leftover for the long ride back home. There is not enough food for this). I mis-read the menu and thought it said ‘French Fried Potatoes’ when it actually said ‘Fresh Fried Potatoes. I was disappointed when I was served Potato Chips rather that Fries. The homemade Chips were too thick, served a bit limp(not crunchy), not very uniform and not very exciting. Ron Zapp makes a better Potato Chip, I hope he rest in peace!

So, I don’t have many requirements in a restaurant. I’ve eaten in a lot of dives and really enjoyed myself. Generally, I’m looking for good food. Cleanliness doesn’t even matter to me that much. But, having a restroom does. It’s a pretty basic component of a restaurant. A couple of girlfriends and I ate there tonight after excitedly reading a review on . I will admit that Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company has delicious food. The freshly made chips(potato) and queso are particularly good. Between the three of us, we had three burgers, three orders of chips and cheese, four beers and an order of beignets. So, we spent some money. In fact, everything was so good, that I was ready to add Straight Stick to my regular rotation of New Orleans burger places. I probably would give this place 4 stars based on the food. Everything was enjoyable until, as will happen after two beers, I had to go to the bathroom. I went inside Rock n’ Bowl and headed toward the bathroom. A rude man shouted at me, with his hand out in the universal symbol for stop and told me I couldn’t go in(worse, he called me, «ma’am»). He said there was a $ 10 cover that I would have to pay before going inside. I asked if this was still the case considering I’d just eaten outside(on their patio, at their hamburger stand) and he directed me to the surly woman collecting money from Rock n’ Bowl goers, explaining I’d have to take it up with her. I asked her the same thing, she responded with, «Do you have your ID?» Excuse me? What does my ID have to do with having to use the restroom? I’m not trying to buy booze(and even then, I am and look well over 21); I’m trying to pee. I told her no, it was in my purse at the table outside. Instead of fighting her, I told her to forget it. So, I returned to our table, where I told my friends. One friend asked the young guy manning the counter outside if they had a restroom. He explained that we would have to use the one inside Rock n’ Bowl. I told him they wouldn’t let me. He apologized, and was quite nice about it, but didn’t go beyond that. So, we left. I probably would have stayed and quite possibly purchased more beverages. But, without a bathroom, this was out of the question. Having a restroom is a pretty basic component(and probably law?) of a restaurant. Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company? You failed at this most basic level. Because of this, I probably won’t be returning, and will tell others not to patronize as well. Please fix this.

Yet another addition to New Orleans burgeoning burger scene, Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company sells burgers, beignets, and a few other late night snacks outside of Rock N Bowl. The«100% LA» Cheeseburger with Maple Street Patisserie bun was really tasty. The toppings were fresh and the«Boss Sauce» and spicy pickles were especially flavorful. Burgers are accompanied by «fresh fried potatoes,» aka chips. The chips are made even better with the addition of melted queso. Straight Stick Ranch Burger Co. offers a nice selection of local beer and even a few wines. Tables are equipped with a trough of ice down the center to keep your beer cold. In the mood for dessert? Straight Stick Ranch Burger Co. sells Mellow Joy coffee and beignets, 4 to an order. The beignets were light, hot, and pillowy, with the perfect amount of powdered sugar. The drawbacks are that the burgers are a bit pricey at $ 9(the burgers are worth it but if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to Truburger or Company Burger, this isn’t it). The only seating area is outside. There are misting fans, which may make it bearable in August(maybe?). Additionally, there is no restroom(apparently you can use the restroom at Ye Olde College Inn). Also, there aren’t too many tables so it seems like the best time to go is early(or for lunch when they add lunch hours), not late night when there is a big crowd at Rock N Bowl. Unless of course you’re already at RNB, then it’s perfect. I am torn on a rating for this place, and would give it a 3.5 if I could. If you’re in the Carrollton area and looking for a tasty burger, check out Straight Stick Ranch Burger Company.
