****THISPLACEISCLOSED**** Showed up this past Saturday. We were planning on doing a birthday dinner here! They’re closed for an indeterminate amount of time. What a royal pain in the ass! We ended up trucking back up town to eat at Superior which involved an hour long wait for our larger than normal party on a Saturday night. We wanted to try this place based on the reviews and the fact that we probably wouldn’t have to wait an hour+ for a table. Update the Unilocal if you’re closing your doors for an extended period of time. I would definitely call before attempting to go to this place.

So, I’m not into Mexican food but the salsa here is spot on. Oh my lord, can I take the habenero salsa home? Seriously someone ship it to me or pump it through my veins. I believe it was the La La and the Diablo. I could be wrong. Oh and they had a van parked out front that looked, literally, exactaly like my first ride! Yes, I got a free. g-to van to drive around at 17 but WTFC cause it was free. so they get points based on that alone. I hope it was my van, how sick would that have been?

Salsas is one of my favorite mexican restaurants in the city. Now, I don’t claim that it is 100% «authentic»(I’ve been to Mexico many times, it’s a completely different experience), but it’s amazing for what it is. The barbacoa is delicious and their salsas are all top notch. The variety in the different salsas is what really did it for me. The fresca, hurricane, Fiona, and lala’s are my personal favorites. Also it’s reasonably priced and never crowded and everyone I’ve met that works there are very nice. Highly recommended.

This place has lots of potential. We knew something was up when we opened the door and it was a ghost restaurant. We ordered the shrimp tacos that were advertised as grilled shrimp. When it arrived, we got cocktail shrimp lightly heated. Yuck! The Tostada was horrible as well. I asked for a veggie and literally got a shell with beans and lettuce. The only good thing here was the salsa and chips. The frozen margarita was just ok. Don’t waste your time or money. :-( Our visit was in January… maybe things have changed since then…

Found this place on Unilocal(thanks Unilocal) while looking for somewhere close by to get some Mexican food. I had no idea this place was there but I’m glad I do now. I walked in and there were only two other tables seated. I sat at the bar and watched the Hornet’s game, had a few beers and ordered two pork tamales and a shredded beef taco. The taco wasn’t spectacular, it was good, just kind of plain though. The tamales were great. I told my server how great they were and she told me that they were two for one that night… my lucky day! So I ordered four more for lunch the next day. I’m not sure why the place was so empty, other than the fact that it’s hidden. If you’re in the area, and are tired of the other Mexican places around there, this place is a must. Good food, prices are reasonable and great service — no complaints!

A coworker of mine recommended this place several montha ago, but I finally just made it there tonight. I was a little skeptical because we walked in at 7:30 pm on a Friday night and there were no customers. Shortly thereafter, two additional 2-tops came in, but that was it. I am always skeptical of any restaurant that claims to have authentic Mexican food, and isn’t located in either South Texas, Southern California, or on the Arizona or New Mexico border. However, I was pretty impressed with the food. We had a fajita torta(sandwich), a lengua(beef tongue) taco, a fish taco and a barbacoa(cheek beef) taco. The fish taco was in the ensenada style just like I used to get in SoCal, and I was impressed. The barbacoa(cheek meat) taco was shredded and tasted just like any other shredded beef taco, but was a «tad» gamey. All in all it was a good taco. The lengua(beef tongue) taco had a good flavor, but the consistency was almost gelatinous and was my least favorite of the tacos. The fajita torta was for lack of a better definition, was simply a steak sandwich. We had some flan for dessert and it was definitely above average. I must say that our waitress was top notch(thanks Jess). She made several good recommendations, told us her favorites and even recommended which sauces and salsas we should put on each of the tacos. One of the best waitresses I have had. The only negative thing I have to say is the parking lot, particularly at the rear of the restaurant by the back door was strewn with litter and had some overgrown weeds. It really does detract from the overall experience and may keep some people from actually going in to dine. Someone needs to go outside with a weed whacker and a broom to clean up the back parking lot.

Tips– 1) if you order the salsa to go, you get 2 or 3 times as much. 2) I recently asked for a shredded chicken tostada. not greasy at all and ABSOLUTELY. DELICIOSO.

I ate lunch here yesterday with my boss. The décor is mute and the place was vacant. We ordered the house salsa(has a special name) and chips. It’s fresh with chunks of tomatillo. Delicious! I ate the whole bowl by myself. I ordered the torta with pork and chicken flautas. The torta is large enough to share, but it has unnecessary application of mayonnaise. The flautas were good, and was served with a cilantro cream dip. I can’t wait to try other stuff on the menu. Go here! This place needs your business.
