Well I heard some sad news this week. The girl that works their, Ginger, will be moving out of state. Defiantly not going back when she leaves…

Why 3 stars? Because it’s generic coffee USA. — — — One of the things I like to do when I’m traveling is find the best local coffee shops. New Orleans seems to be one of the most lacking cities ever when it comes to this category, or I just didn’t know where to look. I was told to check out PJ’s and CC’s, and happened to hit up PJ’s first. So it’s basically a Dunkin Donuts/Einstein Bagels feel. Definitely not a «real» coffee shop. The only thing remarkable here was that they had a microwave out in the lobby area in case your food had gone cold and you wanted a quick re-heat. That was nice. Everything else was meh.

I’m glad that the office building is supporting local business and put a PJs here instead of a Starbucks or something, but that being said– this PJs leaves much to be desired. The staff is extremely friendly and always accommodating to my sometimes silly requests(can you splash some almond milk in my coffee? can I just have the chicken that you would put on a salad? :P). It truly does remind me of my days in the service industry– the staff banter and play around with one another, which always makes me smile. They are a close knit group! However, I have gotten dirty looks on more than one occasion from staff members if I don’t tip extra on top of an already steep cup of coffee(sorry that sometimes I don’t an extra dollar on me…). There is almost always a table to sit at, outside or inside, except maybe during lunch rush hour. The prepared salads, sandwiches, and sushi are not great, but not terrible if you’re in a pinch for time. Mostly two stars taken away not because of staff or environment, but because the quality of the coffee is actually terrible. I stop in here if I’ve forgotten my coffee at home and don’t have time to run into another coffee shop nearby. The iced coffee tastes like burnt hot coffee poured over ice– not even cream and simple syrup can mask that taste. I’m mostly disappointed because I really like the coffee at other PJs locations. Overall, completely sufficient service but definitely worth the extra ten minutes to hop in somewhere else.

This PJs, located on the ground floor of 1515 Poydras, was a much needed addition to the building. It has your standard PJs/coffee shop offerings– a variety of coffees and teas; baked goods like muffins and brownies; grab and go selections like egg sandwiches and pizza bagels; an additional, but somewhat limited, assortment of prepared foods like sushi, sandwiches and salads; and a menu of daily soups and sandwiches. The brownies leave something to be desired but the cheesecake brownie muffin is sinfully delicious. Minus a couple stars because sometimes I get soggy(read: old) lemons in my iced tea and sometimes the staff does unfavorable things with the lemons like touch them with their bare hands or put the lemons at the bottom of the cup(how can I squeeze the lemon into my iced tea if it’s buried under ice?!). Some staff members are a little unkempt looking, something that I feel bad mentioning, but it bothers me enough to be noteworthy. I’d rather not have to consider whether or not you showered before you showed up for your shift or if that’s still your makeup from the weekend. There is ample and comfortable indoor seating as well as a few outdoor tables. Hours are limited! A downside to being located within an office building. Not open on weekends and closes at 4pm on weekdays. Tip: If you have«The Green Card»(learn more about it and purchase it here for $ 20: ), you get a free up-size on your drink(example: you get a large but only pay for a medium).

Clean and convenient coffee shop. Fast service even with a constant flow through the door. Some small foods like bagels, muffins, and brownies.
