NOLA Psychological Services

I’m up and down as to how to give this a starred review. Mental health services in LA are few and far between; so with that comes a general sense of frustration. This particular place is a rapidly growing establishment that went from having excellent services to often shocking services. However, the problem is generally not with the clinical staff, the lone psychiatrist, Dr. Mamon often seems rushed, probably due to case load and sometimes speaks more than she listens. Having said that, she will do her best to prescribe wisely and never over prescribes, she is willing to work with patients. Carissa Bokelberg is an excellent therapist but currently only serves minimal hours. The real issue with NOLA Psychological Services is the business model, they have sought to serve a large and varied population of clients so rapidly that they no longer have the front desk staff to manage their caseload. I have had, lost paperwork, had to drive in during work hours to resupply said paperwork, phone receptionist while friendly, who don’t relay messages reliably and are literally being worked beyond their capacity. While the Doctors have regularly assured me they are working on this problem, it shows no sign of improving at least not at the rate they are accepting intakes. I wanted to give a good review, but in good conscious I can not. Still having said that, they are attempting to fill a much-​needed void and will work on a sliding scale based off of income. However, I don’t know how much longer they’re going to be able to juggle the high demand of their practice and the poor service at the front desk. Being without medication is one thing, but going cold turkey off of an anti-​depressant for over a week is bordering on negligence. Is this a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing? Presently it most certainly. There is plenty of brains at this company but not enough hands to make this function ethically. I have my fingers crossed for the day they back off on intakes and grow their business at a slow, successful rate that continuously provides high quality services. I have my doubts that this is a direction this business will take
