Marnie(the proprietor) was simply fabulous! We kept in contact so she knew when to expect me and she didn’t flinch when plans changed(several times). Our room was spotless, comfortable, and quite spacious. Overall, the B&B is a reader’s paradise. My wife found a book to quench her ever-thirsty desire to read from the bookshelf in our room, but had she not, there would have been plenty throughout the house. The neighborhood was very nice with many restaurants nearby and for us, it was close to where we needed to be. The one thing that took me from five stars to four was a lack of a locking guest room door. To be clear, once in the room, you could lock the door and the house overall was locked, but when you leave your room, the room door remains unlocked. Perhaps that is part of the charm, but for us it felt a little strange.

Wonderful place to stay! The house is beautiful, with finely decorated and comfortable rooms, a spacious balcony overlooking St. Charles, magazines and comfy chairs in the living room, and an elegant breakfast area. Marnie embodies Southern hospitality and truly makes this B&B stand out. Her love of NOLA is apparent, and her knowledge of the city was very helpful! The streetcar, which runs right out front, is under construction, and she took great care in explaining the confusing bus/streetcar situation to us to make sure we could get downtown without getting lost. For friends and family of college students in the area, Mandevilla is within easy walking distance of both the Tulane and Loyola campuses. My husband and I were in the area to see my sister, who’s a student, and Marnie went above and beyond to make her feel welcome as well. We’ve already recommended Mandevilla to the rest of our family, and we’ll certainly be staying here again next time we’re in town!

I came to New Orleans for the first time as part of a wedding party for a close friend in mid October 2012. My friend arranged for myself, two other friends and some of her visiting family to stay at this B&B. Marnie(the B&B Owner and housekeeper) gave us a group discount and was extremely accommodating in every way(allowed late checkins & checkouts and late breakfasts etc). The Good: *An absolutely beautiful old house filled with antiques, high ceilings and local themed art. Each room has a nice theme, I stayed in the Oriental room, very pretty decorations and furniture. *Breakfast was very nice, there was always fresh cut fruit and toast, coffee or juices, and Marnie would ask if you wanted other things like cheese or cereal, very attentive host. *If you have any questions about local happenings just ask Marnie, she is an extremely informative host. *This house is right next to the local street car line, you can just walk outside and stand at the nearest stop to catch it. *Free password-protected WIFI(Just ask Marnie for the password) *Rooms were very clean(daily) and beds were extremely comfortable. *Gorgeous backyard garden area! The not so good: *Tiny old tube TV(I don’t watch much TV but someone who does will not enjoy this) *mini fridge didn’t work(didn’t end up needing it though) *Doors to individual rooms do not lock from the outside(You only get a key to the front door of the house so you can come and go from the building) *WIFI is a little spotty depending on location in the house, seems to work best in the sitting room or the breakfast room, but it is still free! Overall: A beautiful place to stay, a charming house keeper, a great location to the city, affordable pricing comparative to other B&B’s and hotels in the area.
