Just off Metairie Road near the parish line, down a bamboo lined street(Bamboo Road), then up the pebbled trail, there is plenty of parking way around back to the left of the property. If you want to tour the house you have to locate the gift shop(and you want to locate the gift shop!!) I love to bring my visitors to see the LOVELY gardens that surround the Longue Vue House. The great examples of a huge variety of beautiful trees, English-Style Gardens with ponds and fountains, pathways and seating nooks, a japanese koi pond and garden, so much lovely foliage to experience. The house is pretty cool example of how rich folks spent their money in the middle of the last century and I especially loved the collection of Modern art. And don’t skip the gift shop! It has some great finds for you or fun gifts for others. Overall a great place to spend some time exploring, but if you are short on time, don’t skip the gardens(and that part is FREE)!!

The Longue Vue House is absolutely gorgeous! It is free to walk around the gardens but you have to pay for a tour of the home and it is totally worth it! One can tell the Sterns whom lived there were delightful and a fun couple to be around in the 40s. The architecture is unique and features a circular theme. My favorite was the modern art gallery room featuring a large handful of eclectic pieces. Mr. Stern loved his gadgets and the home is full of neat technology that was way before its time. Our guide was knowledgeable and made our tour quite enjoyable. Be sure to roam around the gardens after your tour!

Went with my parents on a Saturday. I was surprised how not crowded the place was, but this worked to our advantage. The tour group was just me and my family so we had the full attention of the tour guide. She was great. She responded to my parents many, many questions(they love home tours). And we felt like VIPs. The gardens were very pretty. Good for some photo opps.

What a gem! To think I’ve lived here 8 years and it took me just as long for me to discover this place despite seeing the sign for it EVERYDAY I got off the ramp at City Park Avenue/Metairie Road exit. Do yourself a favor and set aside an hour, to two hours and get your butt over to the Longue Vue House and Gardens. Guided tours within the house are $ 12 and tours of the gardens and estate are self guided and free. This is a wonderfully educational experience, and gives us a chance to tour one of the more modern homes here in New Orleans/Metairie which was built in the 1920’s. The house in itself is unique because they had the foresight to construct this home with central air and heat, a basement(whaaaaa?) AND an elevator. The house was built intentionally so that each room has a view into a different garden on the estate. I really could go on an on about this place, but I think it is best that you go and take advantage first hand.

I have been to many plantations and have to say this was equally as good if not better!!! Almost everything in the house is original from the owners, the garden was absolutely beautiful. Reasonably priced for a reasonable price. Our tour guide was was Sharon, she gave us so much information and really enjoyed showing us around. :)

Bask in the beauty of the elaborate garden and elegant mansion at the Longue Vue House and Gardens. This breathtaking estate, designated as a National Historic Landmark, features a classical, revival-style mansion surrounded by eight acres of garden inspired by the Gardens of the Alhambra in Spain. Beautiful both inside and out, the mansion — built by the late philanthropists Edgar Bloom Stern and his wife Edith Rosenwald Stern — is filled with a diverse collection of antiques, pottery, carpets, and needlework.

This is a review of the wine and yoga class that i attended on 10/27/2015. This was a fun class put on by LaCrema winery and a local Yoga studio. The class was in the courtyard and it was enjoyable. I was attacked by just a few bugs but I’m not holding that against them. Mosquitoes aside the class was a low to mid range class to incorporate everyone who showed up for the event. My only complaint is that this is the first time that i have been through a yoga class and had not practiced symmetrically. We only did lizard with the right leg and not the left, three legged dog on right but not left. Other than that minor complaint the class went well. Afterwards we had a wine tasting and some words about the wines that were offered. The woman in charge of LaCrema wines was on site and offered to answer any questions, and happy to talk to everyone about the vineyard and their process. The wines were great and all very distinct.

Longue Vue is awesome! The gardens are amazing, the house is really cool, and they have really great programs that not enough people take advantage of. I’m hoping to help spread the word! They have a discovery garden for kids, tours of the house, art exhibits, yoga classes in the gardens(from time to time), and other special events. My favorite event at Longue Vue, though, is Taste & Pair. It’s a 5-course tasting menu hosted at Longue Vue but featuring great chefs and sommeliers from restaurants and wine shops across the metro area. The most recent one, on August 20, featured chefs Amarys Herndon(resume: Arnaud’s, Bayona, and The Old Portage) and Jordan Herndon(Ralph’s On The Park) and the wine was by Carly DiCosola. Each course was amazing, but I particularly loved the chilled corn soup, the pickle plate, and the peach with ice cream and poppy seed cookie crumble. With such great food and wine, this is a steal at just $ 45! They usually have one once as season, so I’m already looking forward to the fall one. Perhaps if the weather is nice it will be held out on one of the gardens again, like the spring one was. It’s fun to come with friends but it’s also nice to mingle with new people that you’re seated with. I’ve always enjoyed the company of my table-mates. I’m sure you will too — especially if you’re at my table. :)

This place is amazingly beautiful and it was one of my favorite places to see on our recent trip to New Orleans. We’ve been to a lot of plantations through the years but for some reason we never visited Longue Vue. I am so glad we didn’t miss this. Our tour guide was fun and very informative. She made the family’s history come to life for us. I think our guide’s name was Gloria. We toured the grounds by ourselves and discovered so many pretty and peaceful spots filled with flowers and plants and colors, with wonderful design elements. There is a child’s discovery garden where children are free to explore and learn. I loved everything about this place. I recommend a visit here. You will not be disappointed. There is plenty of parking and the tours start every hour.

Beautiful property to tour in the outskirts of New Orleans. NOT a plantation home. Took a very informative 45 minute tour with Sue. House was air conditioned and has lots of interesting trinkets inside. They let you go in most of the rooms. No photos. :/ I wish it were self-guided but they rarely are. Grounds were probably the best part; be sure to make time for them.

A lovely and educational respite from the busy city. Close too! The house is air conditioned(very ahead of its time) and has all original furnishings and family artifacts. Artwork too! A real gem. Tour guide was also informative. Lovely gardens.

The house museum and gardens are exquisite. The staff were friendly and knowledgable and it was a special pleasure to talk with Tyrone in the garden and Sue in the house. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting New Orleans.

Came for American Horror story, stayed for the lush gardens, beautiful architecture, superb engineering and technology. Behind the doors of this old house you don’t expect much, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised by it’s beauty and engineering. The gardens are perfect to walk around on a sunny day(albeit we went on a rainy, gloomy day and it was still beautiful). Don’t miss the tour of the house! It is stunning. Only reason I’m giving it four stars is because there is absolutely no photography inside the house.

This really is a hidden gem. The gardens are beautiful and my kids really love the discovery garden. The watering can sculpture is pretty awesome. The staff is super friendly and one time the head gardener even took the time to give my daughters a guided tour of the gardens. I gotta admit here I’ve never been inside the house because I have little kids and am fearful of them breaking something. I’m planning on it when they’re older. They have a iphone and android app with a tour. They also participate in free museum day. Mommy notes: Stroller friendly, outside snacks ok, plenty of shady spots, kids under 3 are free.

I took advantage of Free Museum Day this year with a long overdue trip to Longue Vue. This place has been on my list for years and I can’t believe I just now took advantage of a quiet morning spent in the lovely gardens of this estate. Turning down Bamboo Rd. from Metairie Rd, I knew I was in a for a treat. I spent about 45 minutes going through the Discovery Garden(so cute, can’t wait to bring my nieces!), to the wild garden(reminder to self to go back when the irises bloom) and the impressive Spanish Court. Luckily, I was just finishing my garden foray when a tour of the house was starting. Wow. The history of the family who lived here was impressive. Not only do you get to peek into what their life was like, but the lady of the house was a collector of modern art and so it was like a gallery visit on top of the house tour. Our guide was also super knowledgable and I feel like I got a history lesson on politics, New Orleans oddities, river commerce and more. Highly recommended.

If you ask me, I am not the type of guy who visits Longue Vue and participates with all yuppy activities that occur over there. But, after reading some of these negative reviews I had to intervene. I did attend an event with my mother early in spring and was greeted by a lively group of employees. As my mother and I walked the gardens(I myself hastily went to the cocktail bar for a «beverage»), we were greeted by one of the gardeners who took us on an adventurous mini tour of the different gardens explaining to us the variety of plants and flowers that we were blooming all over(Honestly, I don’t remember the names he said but his enthusiasm was legit, my mother was having fun and I was returning back with my second«beverage»). To think that was the extent of the hospitality keep on reading, we were then greeted by a lively young gal who seemed to be in charge of the discovery garden and Longue Vue education out reach program,(That’s the closest I can remember of what she told me) she too decided to give my mother and I an historical tour of the estate, which I will admit was informative and very cool(They’re right next to N.O.C.C.). She was lively, polite, courteous to say the least. I could probably fill this page with positive synonyms, I should ask Nola L. for her thesaurus. Now, you’re probably thinking, if I had such a great time with my mother why am I only giving it four stars? Well, like I said in my intro to this thesis, I mean review, I am not the type of guy who usually attends those things. In all fairness they do deserve a four start salute from me.

After a rather bad experience here on a field trip I would be hesitant to suggest this attraction to any other schools. The young girl in charge of the activities was abrupt, curt, and worst of all RUDE. Not only to the excited and eager children but to the parents and teachers who had taken the time to visit and pay for this experience. There is no need for the behavior, she mostly seemed exasperated and overwhelmed rather than trying to make the experience a positive one she sulked around and glared at anyone who dared to make eye contact. I had previously thought of looking into birthday parties at the gardens as well but after today… goodness no! There was massive confusion over parking as well, the staff directed is to park at one location and then changed their minds after all chaperones has left their cars and insisted we all move again. Overall it wasn’t worth the trouble or rude behavior we had to put up with. This trip stank worse than a bag of manure.

An absolute hidden gem in New Orleans… just beautiful! I was ready to move in after the tour. We took the street car from the French Quarter and then walked less than a mile to the estate house. We ended up having a private tour and really got to take it all in and ask all kinds of questions. The furnishings were exquisite and the layout of the house was genius. This is a must visit attraction in New Orleans!

I had some time to kill before a flight out of New Orleans and this place seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. It is pretty close to the city, so it made it a pretty easy choice. This place is absolutely beautiful. I wish I had done the house tour, but I was concerned I wouldn’t have enough time before my flight. However, the gardens themselves made it worth it(and at least I got to see the outside of the house). Seriously beautiful… I’m not much into flowers or gardens generally, but this place was really great. It’s all very well maintained and laid out. The small amount that they charge to visit is well worth it. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in New Orleans, and will absolutely be sure to do the house tour next time!
