Course very nice and in excellent shape. Clubhouse was poor. Club used to be preeminent, but now it’s the epitome of mediocre. And it was 50% more expensive than TPC, which was a better course. What happened? Overall, good bones here, but needs a lot of work. And still in the middle of nowhere — I don’t «get it.»

NOLA is probably not the first place you think of for a golf destination, but if you need to play there, go to TPC& English Turn. We played Saturday, 10÷11÷14, during a bachelor weekend in NOLA. $ 70 booked on . Good practice facilities. Just played TPC the day before, which I really liked. Hot & humid day, but play was fast. Starter was friendly & entertaining. No GPS on carts. We were a 3some and despite some struggles, we would’ve finished in under 4 hours if not for a 30 – 45 thunderstorm. Not a fan of Nicklaus’s numerous grass bunkers guarding already very small greens. However, conditions were generally pretty good. Greens are fast. Island green on 15(?) was a fun challenge. Water hazards in play on most holes, so bring balls. After the round, I got to the bar after which had unfortunately already closed. Kevin the bartender took pity on my rain-soaked self and made me a drink as long as I was ok paying cash. My 2 friends came and he made us all a nice strong Hurricane. The cup was probably 20 oz. His hospitality was truly memorable. Try getting just a not-bad attitude at Bethpage. The locker room has showers, as it was originally built to be a private club. THEYALSOHAVE A STEAM&SAUNA! STEAMANDSAUNA!!! Yes. Steam & sauna. So bring an extra change of clothes, enjoy your fast round, have a hurricane made by Kevin, then melt away in the steam room. Any questions?

NOTIMPRESSED. Just left a wedding that was held there. The outside at night in the dark didn’t look to bad. When you walk in there is a stair case of ugly stained carpet leading to the 2nd floor. You can go right or left. What I found awful was the wedding was like it was split between two groups. The group who they wanted to invite & the group they had to invite. The band, dance floor, wedding cake & where everything was happening was on one side along w/tables & a bar. Then the food was in this middle room & then the guest who sat in the punished corner was in the other room completely separated from where all of the action & wedding party was. The food was very bland. There was pass arounds of muffuletta’s w/not toasted doughy bread missing the main ingredient, the olive salad. What I think was their play on Bruschetta. Again non toasted crostini w/what I think was supposed to be crab meat, veggie egg rolls(these were actually the best of the night). Main dishes were noodles w/Alfredo sauce which was tasty but nothing was in it. No chicken, shrimp, crawfish. I didn’t try but heard the meat station was dry & fatty but heard the gumbo was good. I know my co-worker paid a pretty big penny per person so you would think they could use of it to paint the bathroom walls. They look like someone stuck their dirty hands all over the place. The floors look like they haven’t mopped in a while. I guess I can say… been there /done that don’t need to go back

This was the host course for the 2006PGA Zurich Classic. I booked an online tee time for the early afternoon since most of the tee times were for locals only unless I wanted to spend $ 100.00 each tee time. The course is designed by the legend Jack Nicklaus and at one time was very grand. The clubhouse is large and upscale on the inside, the practice grounds are spacious and include bunkers and chipping greens. As for the course, it’s challenging with water on all 18 holes. Some greens are small and and it’s target golf are else you’ll be penalized for a off shot. What was a con here was that some of the greens were in bad shape and slow. The pace of play was also slow and it took over 5 hours to play. One person who joined me from New York was so frustrated with group in front of us — he left after 12th hole. To top it off we didn’t see a marshall the entire day to speed play up. With so many other courses outside of the city I would recommend playing them. Check out La Tour(Mathews) or Santa Maria(Baton Rouge) or the TPC in Avondale.
