One of the greatest restaurant owners in New Orleans passed away last week Joe Segetto. What a gentleman. He managed Louis Prima in Las Vegas for ten years and was very close friends with Tony Bennett. He managed Elmwood Plantation restaurant in Jefferson Parish and his baby veal and jumbo lump crabmeat at 1179 was to die for. Joe we will miss you. You were one of a kind.

Sad news in NOLA restaurant-land. I stopped by for an after-work coldbeer today. Was surprised when Karen, the new bartender, and widow of THE bartender, Johnny Livicari, announced that it was«on the house», as Joe Segreto was holding an «open bar» in appreciation of his«regulars». The place was to close tonight, permanently ! A big piece of N’Awlinz is gone ! May GOD Bless Joe, Alexis, Karen, Lisa, and all the crew who made my past seven years here more pleasant and interesting. And, especially the recently late Johnny Livicari and Irvin Smith. Rick Similar food can be found at Vincent’s out St. Charles, between Universities and Carrollton. Sadly, no other bar is like this one was. Substitute bars are the Hermes Bar at Antoine’s, The Red Maple in Gretna, or Muriel’s on Jackson Square.

DUMBFOUNDED What do I mean dumbfounded? Reservations at 6:30pm and just two tables occupied. We are told this evening that this menu item and this entrée and this popular item and so on were not available for this evening. We had to ask again to be sure. I’ve never encountered such a briefing of what’s not available in such proportion. Unfortunately, many of the entrees we had preminitions of tasting this evening were part of the barrage of «so sorry but not tonight Charlie.» Heck, now that we’re here, we can’t just get up and go elsewhere. Here’s what we had to settle for: — Caesar Salad topped with fried oysters(split serving for two by the kitchen) … small oysters fried perfectly … dressing could have used a bit of anchovies. — Pasta Bolognese … half order of the best pasta I’ve experienced in this town. — Shrimp Fra Diavolo … full order is enough to feed two… plenty of heat and those shrimps were major league sized. — Eleven 1179 Pasta with peas, bacon, minus pine nuts … creamy smooth and not to pass up. Next time the pine nuts stay. I think Yu-go wasn’t kidding about getting up and leaving after the«what we don’t have tonight» epilogue. I don’t blame him. We have had this restaurant bookmarked since November. The lamb, veal and duck entrees were all announced as MIA and was all too much to comprehend. I can’t imagine how much more enjoyable this evening would had been if those MIA’s weren’t so. So, the lesson learned is call before you cone and ask what are the MIA’s.

Best restaraunt in New Orleans. I’ve eaten there more than any other restaurant in my life. My friends and I have never had a bad or even unfulfilling dinner there – the food was superb, as usual, and the waiters are friendly and like family. Being a former waiter and manager I know personally how much effort goes into running a successful restaurant and the fact that it has tons of out of town and local regulars speaks volumes. Trust me, go there and you will not regret it.

The reviews of this restaurant seemed great and I was excited to go but any expectations were shattered once I got there. The service was poor, the food was overpriced and poorly cooked. There was no seafood left on a Saturday. The gelato was icecream and most of all my credit card got STOLEN.

HORRIBLE. They were out of red wine, tomatoes, and veal. What kind of italian place??? Every single thing we got off of the menu was horrible. Shrimp was overcooked. The staff is friendly, but the entire experience was odd and aggravating. The inside is very dark and creepy. Couldn’t wait to get out of this place.

All I can say about this place is… meh. It’s mediocre all around. Our server for lunch on Friday was half-hearted, slightly brusque, and not terribly welcoming. She greeted us with the news that they were out of veal… which comprises roughly 70% of the menu. The food took 45 minutes to arrive(with no more than 3 tables seated in the entire place) and frankly, $ 17 for a lunch portion of chicken parmagiana that doesn’t even include pasta? Literally a pan-fried chicken breast with sauce? It just missed the mark for me in every area other than the setting, which is lovely. My friends felt the same. For Italian food in this amazing food city — go elsewhere. Irene’s, Vincent’s, Il Posto, Domenica.

Mamma Mia! That’s Italian(Sicilain)! An established LGD restaurant on an island of ground in the shadow of the elevated approach to the CCC. The look, the feel, the taste and the service of Italy is right here for your feasting! Hot off the heels of our St Joe celebration, we continue in this quaint, warm environ. As you walk in, the long bar allows only room for a few two tops, but a few steps up is the second dining room with a banquette running the entire back wall with two and four tops in linear fashion. I started with a strachiatelli(sp) soup — very plain and oure but extremely tasty followed by a Wedge salad with real blue cheese. My entrée was a casserole loaded with Italian sausage and peppers bulging from underneath a thick layer of gooey melted cheese. Although totally unnecessary, I had to sample a side order of spaghetti marinara topped by a bowling ball sized meatball! What memories! I finished with my favorite dessert of homemande, key lime pie but the tiramisu was dificult to skip. / PARKING: Evening hours: Approximately five spots in the front lot of Mardi Gras LLC(Next door); On Erato Street, except for several commerical driveways; and, the corner lot of Erato and the cross street(maybe Tchoupitoulas?)

Maybe I was here on an off night but the food was not good. I’ve spoken to a few other people who have been here a few times and they said it was a hit or miss kind of place. I guess I got the miss. There are so many great places in this city, I don’t think I will give this one another chance. Gave three stars because wait service was excellent otherwise it would have been a 2.

Warm, dark and cozy place to eat an amazing dinner. I like to go for my birthday in January. Their pastas are amazing and sauces rich. But what I can’t ever pass on is something from their grill. They have some amazing veal and lamb chops that rival any steak restaurant. Service is my favorite part! Wonderful classic old world New Orleans service. Tony Bennett was there for lunch on Memorial Day one year and sand Gold Bless America at the bar; freaking awesome.

Great Italian food! A must-go for lunch. Service: This visit was my first time, but I went with a group of regulars. The servers not only remembered who my group was, but they knew what table they liked best and the seat each person liked best. The servers were engaging and friendly, our food was brought promptly, and they were attentive to our needs. No complaints at all. Food: I had the Veal Francese and the Muffuletta Salad. Veal francese is veal cooked not in flour, but egg. The final product looked a bit like a veal-stuffed fried egg. This was topped with carmelized onions and a mushroom sauce. Delicious! The salad was also great. Italian is by nature pretty heavy food, but after this meal, I was left pleasantly satisfied, not overstuffed. Atmosphere: Like many NOLA restaurants, this place had a distinct atmosphere and feel. I thought it was cozy but not cramped. Tips: Go for lunch, not dinner. Better value, and the neighborhood at night is not the greatest.

The ambiance was nice and quaint and service was excellent but the food was terrible. I got the Veal Oscarrini special, sounded amazing but fell way short. The veal was tough and tasted like a pre-frozen steak finger you’d get at Dairy Queen. My husband got the Veal Parmesan and it had the same toughness. He also got a house salad and a half portion of the pasta bolognese which he did enjoy. I got the Caprese salad which was bland, but wasn’t expecting much from a mozzarella and tomato salad. We also got the fried calamari as an appetizer. Nothing special about it either. This place has so many great reviews that we were expecting so much better, especially for $ 160!

One of my favorites. This warehouse district gem has been delivering great local New Orleans Italian since 2000. Love the dark atmosphere and don’t miss the crab salad or eggplant rolotini!

Friday night ladies dinner at Eleven 79 was fantastic! Myself and 4 friends were able to get reservations one night prior. Upon entering you are greeted by an older gentleman, I am not sure his exact role? But, he was so friendly and welcoming, it felt like we were being welcomed into an Italian home. The restaurant is in a old house, so this seemed appropriate. Drinks were had at the bar while we waited for our entire party to arrive. The bartender was attentive and happy to serve. Once seated our server Mignon was ready to help get our dinner started. Let me say how much we enjoyed her! She was friendly and knowledgeable about all the food. She gave us the time we needed to chat while perusing the menus. Bread for the table came out, fresh and warm. Mignon, upon request, mixed us up some olive oil with cheese and spices for dipping. I suggest asking for this, so good! I had a Caesar salad and half plate of the Pasta Pesto Genovese. The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente, and the pesto sauce had all the typical flavors(which were great). The salad, I mean it’s a salad, but I enjoyed it! I tasted the scallops, delicious! I would order this next time. I also tasted one of the veal dishes, don’t remember which one, but wow they do veal well! Good wine selection, we had a couple bottles. Looking forward to dining at this restaurant again! I can’t believe as a NOLA native I’d never eaten here before!

Elegant classic Italian restaurant. I love the ambiance, but am just so-so on the food. Very nice staff and service. I just wish that the food was better. It is really a nice place with great service…

We went for lunch, yes theyre open for lunch now, and we ordered the soup of the day which was minestrone, the caprese salad($ 10) and 2 french fry poboys. Im not sure if they made it on the menu yet but we happened to know the chef and they are amazing. Made on ciabatta bread, provolone cheese, roast beef debris and thin cut homemade french fries and a thin gravy. Tiramisu for dessert which was excellent. Our bill was $ 70 with tip so def on the pricier side even for lunch. I heard the dinner items are really good but all I know that if I can get food the same or better down the street and for less money then i will.

This place is so New Orleans… its Italian… but you get all your«New Orleans» goodness with it. The seafood… oysters…crabmeat everywhere! The atmosphere is a dim and intimate… it feels secretly local… and the owner and his daughter definitely know how to treat you like a VIP.
