Although I’m thankful they fit me in for a color and cut last minute, it wasn’t worth the small fortune they charged me for the services. The salon has poor lighting and when I got home I realized the stylist had missed a huge section of roots in the front! I now have to go back to have it fixed. Huge rookie mistake from someone doing hair for 30 years. The salon was dirty and cluttered, although had good ambiance aside from that. Elevations was definitely not worth the $ 160 charged for color, lowlights and cut.

(Really a solid 4.5 star experience, but not quite 5.) The salons I’m used to frequenting have the bright lights, black and white décor, chic and a little frou-frou-esque vibe. Elevations is not that salon(which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). It’s a bit dark, with a color palette of moss greens and bronze — it felt a bit somber to me. My first impression of Randy is that he’s a total rocker. Lots of tats and piercings and he carried himself with a nonchalant, cool attitude. He does minimal small talk, which I appreciated. Sometimes I enjoy gossipy banter with the stylist, but most of the time I just find it to be work — answering the same ol’ questions about where I’m from, what I do, do I have a boyfriend, etc. It’s refreshing to have someone who just gets straight to work and lets you sit back and relax. I have a tendency to ramble in my reviews so I’ll just bullet point my highs and lows of you. Highs: — Easy to get an appointment on the weekend(at least it was for me) — Randy was CRAZY fast! Two hours for a half foil, toner treatment and blowout. — Total price: $ 75 — waaayyy cheaper than anywhere else I called. — Fantastic highlights!(Though it wasn’t really the color I asked for, I ended up liking it and have gotten great feedback from my beau and friends.) — Didn’t try to hard-sell products Lows:(these are total minor things but I’m just picky and anal about weird stuff) — Unswept hair clippings from previous customer in the seating area(made the salon seem sloppy to me) — Minimal consultation on what I wanted done. I mean, he asked and I told him but it wasn’t a very engaging conversation. He seems like a minimalist talker and I was too intimidated to elaborate the details. Probably why I ended up with a color I wasn’t expecting. — Cash or check only!!! Didn’t know that, had to have my boyfriend run to the ATM for me and drop off the cash. — No offers for refreshments — This lady who had foils in her hair had to leave to add coins to the meter for her car and neither stylist offered to do it for her! She looked a hot mess running outside on a busy Saturday morning on Magazine. Anywhere else I’ve been, the stylists were all over that. Okay so it seems like I listed more lows than highs, but honestly, I had a great experience here. I definitely plan on returning because I felt like I was in very capable hands and the price is appropriate for a poor grad student. Highly recommended!

Fine, I’ll let you in on my secret. This is the salon where my most incredible stylist works. Randy, has always done incredible things to my hair. I never have to tell him what to do with my normally unresponsive, straight hair. I usually get a cut and some really fun color. The salon is super convenient to get to, and is not usually too hard to get an appointment outside of wedding or Mardi Gras season. Prices for cuts and color are incredibly reasonable for the high caliber work that they do here.
