Within the last year, a few places offering craft brews have popped up in the French Quarter… One of them being the«Draft House» I use quotes around the name because the staff told me that it is a temporary name and it will be changing shortly… This place just opened New Year’s Eve 2013 and it looks like they rushed things a bit. First, the only signage is a vinyl sign in front that says«Draft House». Then you walk into a entry area and have two choices… walk into a room with nothing in it, or into the main bar. The back bar itself looks«done». They claim 54 handles on tap, I didn’t county but I believe them. They also had a bottle list of about 50. Their selection was«ok»… I noted they had 7 or more Abita selections on tap… Appropriate I guess. The bar itself was odd to say the least. It was a standard wooden bar with this layer of «Glue» and covered with a standard piece of hard plastic… In talking with some of the staff, it appears they rushed the opening to capture some of the NYE, Sugar Bowl crowd and I would guess the bar top wasn’t ready and this was a temporary(and extremely ugly) fix. The staff needed a lot of work… At one point I counted 5 of them standing around talking but not paying any attention to the customers… I was trying to make eye contact and signal to them«Hey. over here». The place wasn’t very busy and they were just standing around talking to each other. At one point a girl asked me what kind of beers I like so she could make a recommendation… I told her«Dark and Malty.» She said«Oh, not my type of beers… I can’t help you there.» She then turned around and walked away. Another issue I had was the 8 – 9 dollar pours… I know it is touristy… I know it is the French Quarter… but pouring an Abita Amber into a plastic glass should not be that expensive… I love having a choice of beers to drink in the Quarter, but this place is rushed, the staff sucks, knows nothing about beer and the building itself isn’t ready for customers. I couldn’t help but think that after being open only two days, they are in need of «Bar Rescue» to come and save them.
