I was lucky enough to score some last-minute tickets to this event, and I’m very glad I was able to go. I got to try some delicious cocktails from some local specialists(I especially liked the guy from Dat Dog but please don’t ask what his name was or the drink or what was in it; I have no mind for details like that). Plus the shrimp and grits were fantastic – though they were one of only 3 or 4 food options, which, for New Orleans, is a really paltry showing. It’s my understanding that pre-sale tickets for this event were about $ 35/each, which does not seem that bad if you get 4 hours with an open bar and access to some food, but it’s certainly not the most impressive thing I’ve seen. I really think the space was too large; perhaps they were expecting more people? There were wide swaths of unoccupied area that sort of just made it awkward for people who like to mingle and socialize. I did like that so many people got into the spirit and dressed up, that was fun to see. All in all, it doesn’t seem like the kind of thing I would try to go to again, but I don’t regret trying it once.

Well most folks seemed to get into the theme and there were plenty of folks dressed all in their 1920’s best. This was an OK event but the food selection could’ve been a bit more of a selection. This was actually one of the smallest selections of food I’ve ever seen at an event like this. The drinks did flow freely so that was a nice counter to the limited food. The band added a nice flair to the theme and most folks seemed to be having a good time. I find it rather sad that more people and more sponsors get onboard with fundraisers for animals like SPCA’s Howling Success than for human kidneys. Dog’s are often nicer than humans usually so maybe that’s why… but don’t animals have kidneys too? Well by the end of the night I certainly had enough jet fuel to blow my kidneys to take me back to the 20’s and I think part of me is still trapped back there slowly catching up to now.

The Cat’s Meow, I tell ya! This event was spectacular! I felt as if I walked into the 1920’s jazz venue were prohibition was erased. I couldn’t think of a better place to hold this event other than the XLIV lounge at Champions Square. It was a perfect venue for a live band, multiple seating options and a bar in the middle adorned with gorgeous chandeliers. Not sure if this venue hosts weddings, but if they do and you’re a bride to be… pick this place! As for the Kidney Foundation… Yall did an amazing job setting this up! The volunteers were nice and all were just as dolled up as the guests. A phenomenal celebration with sounds of the Yat Pack, extraordinarily crafted cocktails and excellent tastings from Parkway Bakery and Bourbon House. The coffee cocktail had at me at marshmallows! Hey yo! Bourbon House… How’d you make those shrimp and grits?! ONPOINT! So good! I will be in your restaurant soon to get some more.
