I’ve passed this gallery a million times but never stopped in until last month. And why did I stop in? This gallery carries Dr. Seuss art AND they had a traveling exhibit of Dr. Seuss’ hat collection. Y’all have no idea how much I wanted to try on a hat, but they were behind plexi so no arrests were necessary. The rest of the gallery is a whimsical mix of contemporary artists, like Peter Max. They have both small sculptures as well as paintings and limited edition prints. Oh how I wish I could afford a Theodore Geisel original. Customer service was great and the owner even got a piece out of their storage area for me to look at. I also appreciated that the gallery has a small bit of old signage on the brick highlighted in the corner window and framed by drywall. Art is where you find it after all.

We stopped by here today and found an AMAZING exhibit on the art of Dr. Suess. Wo knew that Dr. Seuss was an accomplished abstract artist as well as an illustrator? The gallery owner(Angela) was super gracious and showed us all the pieces and how they were distinguished from one another. In addition, she showed us where to find them online. Then, she took us through a back door, which was kind of James Bond-ish to another section of the gallery where we saw Peter Max stuff and some other great pieces. This is a WONDERFUL gallery with a unique collection of art by a gallery owner that is a very progressive thinker. Highly recommended!

This was a unique arrangement of art in a single gallery. Six or seven extremely varying styles ranging from canvas to aluminum mounted goods, bronze sculptures, and other media. Many pieces were of exceptional quality, but as is art, so are many of the price points to match them. The gallery hosts are polite and I’m sure they are used to folks such as ourselves that, while we would love to purchase some of the pieces, were just taking a moment to appreciate the works.

The most fabulous art gallery! Ms Angela is very patient, even to the novice art lover… very knowledgeable on all the artists that she has displayed and even more. Stopped by for a quick pit stop on a road trip through New Orleans and she was so gracious and informative about even the touristy spots to check out in the local area. Even saw Chris Noth(aka Mr. Big) in her art gallery while we were there!!!

This a review for the customer service I received at this gallery, as a non-customer.(tl;dr: Helpful and understanding staff who went beyond the call of duty when I was in a bind) I think it becomes clear that you’ve broached adulthood when you start buying art. That is, when you spend a day’s pay or more on some canvas covered in paint, knowing you’ll ruefully lose a few pounds as a result(Watch for more info about the Fine Art Diet in the next issue of Cosmo). Ah well… While in New Orleans for a wedding this past weekend, I picked up a beautiful painting in Jackson Square. I had no choice but to carry it on the plane home with me, and figured I would just go into one of the galleries a few hours before my flight and pay them to wrap it for me. Nope! I inquired with several different galleries, and it turns out they don’t operate that way. So there I was, 40 minutes before the airport shuttle was to pick me up, frantic, as I didn’t want any damage to come upon this beautiful piece that I’m sacrificing years of ramen for. Downtrodden after a few failed attempts, I stepped into Angela King’s gallery, the last gallery en route to my hotel. I walked in and asked the woman sitting behind the desk to the right if I could pay them to wrap a painting for me. She said they have a 3rd party come in once a week to wrap and ship paintings for them. I explained my situation, and she went to the back room to see what she could come up with. She returned with some large scraps of bubble wrap and a few large sheets of cardboard. I opted to just use the bubble wrap since I wouldn’t have time to cut the cardboard down to optimal size. Upon nervous request, she went to the back again to see if they had anything to secure it with, but all of their tape rolls were pretty new, so she grabbed several fathoms of heavy string. Thanking profusely, I offered to pay her, which she declined. No doubt she was just content to get this needy tourist out of her gallery. I made it across the street to retrieve my luggage and painting which were checked with the hotel. Borrowing some tape from the front desk, I got my painting nicely wrapped and ready to go. It’s now sitting safely on the desk in my living room, waiting to be hung and admired for the rest of my days. All in all, the kind woman working here(whom I believe was Angela King herself) could have just as easily turned me away. She was under no obligation to offer her time or supplies to me, especially when the art in question had been purchased from another source. It’s clear that she empathizes and understands the personal value of a beautiful piece of art, rather than viewing each passing tourist as a sentient dollar sign. I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but many thanks to you, Ms. King! You saved the day.
