I have had a very bad experience with the VNSNY Hospice service. My mother was finally diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 95 after 5 visits to the emergency room over a 2 month period. After they put in a stent to alleviate a blockage in in the upper digestive track, there was nothing they could do for her besides alleviate pain and try to make her comfortable. Hospice care was recommended. I had a terrible problem with the Hospice nurse at NYU Med Ctr., she never visited my mother, just spoke to me in the hallway. She kept insisting that I put my mother in a long term facility in the Bronx, an 1 ½ hour trip each way from my Manhattan apartment. My mother did not want to go to a long term facility, I did not want her to go to one either. She wanted to go home in my care and with the aides that Medicare pays for. This Hospice nurse argued with me did nothing to help. I had to call other people in to get my mother the maximum of 4hrs a day for 5 days a week. This Hospice worker while telling me my mother needs maximum care and then refused to recommend the maximum for the aides. I did insist that the aides die not come from Partners in Care, they are the worst agency, management actually lies to customers. I insisted on Premier, that agency is much more reliable and the aides are much better. I am still fighting to get my mother everything she needs. This location sits in Manhattan Chinatown that serves the Chinese community. When inquiring for a part-time home attendant in-person the Physician Liaison was unhelpful to my situation. Many politics factor to blockage from attaining a part-time home attendant. Despite of the system my family was unable to hire a part-time home attendant at our own expense. Elderly age combined with sluggish and numerous health deterioration are a good reason for care required. Staff lacks compassion, understanding, no morals and no conscience. What does one do if YOUR elderly father needs help and you deny by affirming with abrupt rejections for a measly part-time home attendant? What happened to the human morale? Absolutely no compassion from this VNS. No conscience. No morale. Apathetic. Filial Piety. What are YOURPRIORITIES???
