Best salon in New York– friendly, efficient and great color, haircuts and keratin! Valery is a master and love Nicole and Gigi for color and Hedi for keratin. All the staff are terrific. Fun place to be! Tried many places but this is the most versatile and high quality throughout.

I went to the new Upper Westside location today. Got a great haircut from Steven, so nice to finally have a great salon in the neighborhood!!! Very welcoming staff and Super clean.

I came to this salon when my hair was destroyed by an inferior stylist(if you can call him a stylist), Peter Diaz of Dramatics Hair Salon(need i say more?). He dyed my hair jet black and then to reverse the mistake, he stripped it blonde and then incorrectly applied a keratin treatment which really destroyed it beyond repair. I have been happily going to the Valery Joseph Salon ever since and use Val Jr. who has slowly and patiently helped me to get the hair that I used to have back. With regular trims, conditioning treatments(and emotional counseling over this debacle) I am on the road to repair. NO!!, VJ salon is not inexpensive but I have had to learn the hard way that you pay for what you get. VJ salon is a no nonsense salon with professionals; the best at what they do. I personally don’t need sweet talk, I need a salon that provides the best hair stylist, colorist and products and that is what VJ Salon does.

Color(blonde highlights) totally fine but nothing to write home about. Really mediocre cut(if you can call it that) from the girl who was meant to dry it and said oh let me trim it a bit first. Then slapped me with a $ 300 bill for a cut. Crazy! I didn’t complain — I just mentioned to the guy that cashed me out that she didn’t really cut my hair, just trimmed the front a tiny bit and he just shrugged and said«a cut is a cut». I disagree but just paid the bill. Based on what I have heard though, if you get a proper cut from the right person it’s great.

I’ve gone to Valery Joseph 4 or 5 times. I’ve had high lights with Lauren and recently 2 balyage… Lauren really gets the blond color right, and I leave happy. It’s never 100% perfect, but she does it better than the 10 other colorists I’ve tried all over the city for the past 20 years… I blow it dry myself, and get my cut elsewhere, but if you want blonde highlights, I recommend Lauren.

I have been seeing Valery for over 8 years. Crazy to think, since I am from Boston and have to travel a bit of a distance to see him. But my sister and I had heard incredible things from a friend in the city about his hair styling abilities and we just had to see for ourseleves. When we were in high school, we used to take the train up for the day just to see Val, it was an expensive venture but so worth it. I am always complimented on my hair cuts and they last for such a long time! As a blowout addict, the blowout is what sets Valery Joseph Salon above the rest– I love the staff, the assistant stylists especially Natan do such an incredible job helping out Val and I never leave there not looking my best. I swear to you, if you go in there with a pleasant attitude and trust the stylist– you will not be disappointed. They are the most professional and talented team– and Val is a hair god.

Review: Valery Joseph Salon 2: I would not go back again. The staff was friendly. However the girl washing the hair did not have a smile on her lips and was rather annoyed. Further it took forever getting my hair cut. I have short hair In total I spent almost three hours in there. I don’t know how often he checked my hair if the cut was okay or if he still has to cut. He even hair blowed my hair twice to take a look! All in all too expensive for what you get. However Tohmas, the colour specialist, was great and knew what he was doing. His staff upstairs was very friendly and professional. The last thing to mention, watch out for cockroaches.

I had an appointment that I initially needed to push back to due a medical appointment, which i called and did. It turned out i got some really bad news about my health and had to take care of some things immediately. I cancelled my appointment and was told to call back another day to reschedule. 2 days after the appointment was scheduled i was CHARGED over 300 dollars to my DEBIT card. Which means it will take WEEKS to clear this whole thing up. This salon had NOAUTHORIZATION to charge my card. I dont even know how they had my debit card number. I wasnt planning to pay with that card and it was NOT their decision to make. I think it is ABSURD that no one told me there would be a charge for cancelling, let alone a $ 300 charge for services not rendered. Had they told me, I would have figured something out OR asked to speak to a salon manager and asked for them to please understand my situation and perhaps make an exception for me. I was never given that opportunity. No one called me. No one asked my permission. I will be filing a claim and my bank will be dealing with them from this point on. It is a major inconvenience though. I will NEVER go back. It is such a shame because all of my friends and my entire family were frequent cilents at Valery Joseph. I didnt mind paying the exorbitant prices for the decent services but now I am dealing with this bank situation on top of my current health issues. I have never felt so taken advantage of by a merchant. Ive spoken to two other Upper East Side women and have learned that they had the SAMEPROBLEM. Bad business.
