Uptown Pilates

I discovered Uptown Pilates last Spring and have been hooked ever since. The studio is very clean and welcoming. The Tower apparatus is a little intimidating at first, but the instructors at Uptown Pilates do a good job of easing you into the Pilates exercises. Classes never have more than six participants and on several occasions I have been in a class with just one other person. As expected, the smaller the class the more individual attention you receive. I always leave class feeling positive and accomplished. Pilates is a great workout to add to your routine and I would definitely recommend Uptown Pilates.

This is my favorite place in the Village for tower classes. I have never tried the reformer classes here because they don’t offer those on Classpass. The studio is clean and elegant looking in a great location near my kids’ school. The equipment is in great condition. But primarily I come here for the great instruction. Amanda and Lesley are great instructors for tower. Carrie is amazing for her tower with props class — she’s also hilarious and the 55 minute class flies by. All the instructors here really know their stuff so you feel in very safe hands. It’s not a hugely sweaty workout but my lower back issues have disappeared after doing pilates here (and at NYC Pilates reformer class) I am a pilates convert!

Took a reformer and tower class, both classes were suppose to be intermediate level. The reformer machines were ancient, the class was not challenging at all, same goes with the tower class. the teacher Adam was nice but worst classes I’ve tak n in twenty years that I’ve been doing Pilates. I have class pass and saw this studio and wanted to try. Maybe the other locations of uptown are better?

Took my first Pilates class with Julianne and absolutely loved it! She has a very sweet voice and will guide you through a challenging class that will definitely leave you «feeling it.» Would recommend to everyone!

I first learned about this studio from ClassPass, and now I’m a regular! The studio is super clean, conveniently located (right by the ACE train) and the staff is super friendly. The instructors are very hands-​on, patient and accommodating, and I’m particularly a fan of Amanda and Michele’s teaching styles.
I would highly recommend the reformer class — it’s small, so you get great one-​on-​one attention during the class, and you’ll definitely feel sore afterwards.

This studio made me love pilates. Beautiful space, clean, friendly front desk staff and some really great instructors. Amanda is particularly awesome. She really takes the time to explain the exercises and how to do them. But every teacher does slightly different exercises so every workout is different. I’ve only taken Beginner Tower classes here and each has been an awesome work out and really fun. I spent years rowing in the crew team and pilates reminds me a lot of that in the precision with which you do the exercise is what allows you to get the most out of it. This studio encourages that precision and their attention to every student makes it a great experience.

This was my second #classpass class and also only my second time ever doing a pilates tower class. I was really excited to try out this studio, because it’s right by the west 4^th street stop, so it’s really close to a lot of subways and is not that far away from work.
First, it’s a small studio, but very nice. It feels a little like a spa inside, it’s so neutral toned and soothing. I had read reviews of the studio before attending, and a few people had commented that the instructors were rude. I didn’t find that to be the case at all. Were they SUPER DUPER peppy and in your face encouraging? No. But were they condescending or inattentive? Absolutely not.
I actually really enjoyed my class. Most of the people at the time slot were also classpass people, and they were so friendly and welcoming. They told me that this was one of their favorite studios, and it really was a great workout. Instead of being mostly balancing or stretching focused, it definitely targeted the core more intensely than the other tower class that I attended.
With Classpass, you can only go to the same location (or franchise) 3 times a month, though you can go to unlimited classes across all the studios. I really like this studio, both for its location, but also for all of the above reasons. I will probably go there the maximum that I am permitted each month with classpass.

Love this spot. Love that it’s small and so you can get individualized attention. I have always found the staff and instructors to be friendly and helpful. They keep the place clean and well-​organized and it’s extremely close to the subway.

I just took my first pilates tower class here through ClassPass. As a beginner, I don’t have a ton to compare to, but it seems really strange that there are only 3 reviews for this studio, so I wanted to add my experience.
The location is awesome. Right off 6^th and near W 4^th station. The studio itself was super clean and all the equipment was brand new. I’ve seen some reformers and towers at other studios that are pretty beat up, but these were in great condition and super clean.
There were 5 or 6 of us in the class and the instructor was great. A few of us were new and she was very patient explaining everything. I didn’t feel lost or confused, which is super important for me when trying a new workout.
Overall, it was great. It’s definitely a different, less sweaty workout that focuses on little movements, so if that’s your jam check it out.

Facilities:
The studio is located on 6^th ave upstairs of Blue Mercury. The moment I entered, I noticed that the studio was smelling great. The studio is shaped like a long rectangle with reformer facilities on one side and tower facilities on the other with the reception area in the middle. While it is a small studio, everything looked organized and clean. I did check out the bathroom but I didn’t notice a shower. I could see that they took care of little details like painting the bulbs on the ceiling to not hurt the eyes when students are doing the work.
Class:
This review is for a Beginner Tower class led by Lesly. Lesly started by explaining the specific names for parts of the «tower» and how each part worked. Even though the class is «beginner» tower, the class is intermediate pilates (you want to be familiar with the pilates basics). Then she quickly led us through different sequences. I thought the pacing was just right (not too fast not too slow). I liked how she explained the moves through different analogies and confirmed where I was supposed to feel the burn. She also adjusted my postures when needed. I thought the class was quite challenging compared to the pilates class I took at New York Pilates.
Summary:
The location is convenient for me and I will definitely like to take a class again with Lesly.

Pretty nice clean facilities and good content in the classes. However, the way the instructor speaks to students could be lot more upbeat and encouraging! I also thought I could have used a little more of an abs workout and less stretching my arms (maybe I was doing it wrong but I hurt myself)?

I found this studio through ClassPass, usually I find amazing places. This one has a beautiful space, but the attitude of the teachers is horrible. My first class the teacher had such attitude and was very judgmental when you didn’t do an exercise correctly, almost like we were waisting her time. The second class was better at least the teacher was nicer. But the entire atmosphere/​attitudes just felt off, this is not the place you feel welcomed.
I had a 3^rd class booked and decided that I would rather cancel then go to this studio again. There are better studios in the area with better teacher and they are actually friendly!
