One of the top stores in the city — the staff is great and they have an awesome selection of local Bourbon and Rum. Reasonable prices and they always point out the best selection based on my descriptions.

I came here for my birthday yesterday hoping to get several small bottles of liquor to celebrate. It was about 2PM and I was about to take a bus to Connecticut, so I did not want to buy a full-sized bottle anyway. I am not an alkie; I don’t need an entire bottle of booze to get down, and I like variety. This place does not display their small bottles. They are kept behind and below the register, so it’s impossible to know what they have without playing 20 Questions with the cashier. I asked the woman behind the register if I could see the selection, and I will give her one star for the huge smile she gave me as she said, «Ummm…well you can’t come back HERE.» I wished her a nice day and took my business to Beekman Liquors on 1st between 47th and 48th, where I was treated like a queen and got lots of tiny bottles of all all kinds of booze.

This is a wonderful neighborhood wine and liquor shop that caters to the affluent Beekman Place neighborhood. They are friendly and knowledgeable — no attitude and they always recommend a good choice when you ask. Prices are generally on par with the rest of the city, I think. I like them and I have 3 other places that are equidistant from my home and I always choose them. Really nice people!

nice selection of mainly top shelf alcohol with a smallish selection of French heavy wines. Prices are on the high side but the staff couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. It’s not always my first choice in the area, but I know I can always find something interesting here.

U.N. Liquor, aka U.N. Wine Exchange: Excellent selection, including a great assortment of limited distribution stuff, in both spirits and wine. Lots of small-lot california wine, great selection of rums, gins, port. Nothing super-special on whiskey/bourbon, but lots of options. Service is good, and it’s not ostentatiously high-end. Surprisingly fair pricing, for the neighborhood. A huge suburban place would have more options, but around here, in the space it’s in, it’s quite a gem.
