Tsumiki Salon

Excellent hair coloring & friendly service! I came in with a vague idea of what I wanted, and walked out with the best hair color I’ve ever had, all thanks to Satsuki. She was very patient and helpful, and selected colors for a balayage that suited my complexion very well. I am thrilled with my new look and I will definitely come back here again!

I like to say that Yuki styles, colors and cuts hair like Michelangelo painted !! Honestly, you won’t find a better balance between quality, care, price and ambience at any other salon in Manhattan!
When I went to Yuki my hair was literally breaking from too many cycles of highlighting and a balayage. But I did not want to loose the color nor the length. Yuki literally nursed my hair back, highlighting it gently and gorgeously with organic color.
He is also one of the very few hairdressers who honors the word «trimming» … if you say half an inch he really only cuts half an inch but gives each strand its full attention so you leave with your hair looking well cared for, healthy and strong — and that without losing length.
There are 2 ladies in the salon with Yuki: Satsuki who is a wonderful stylist in her own right with a group of faithful customers who have been following her for years, and the new assistant Hiromi who gave me an amazing head massage today that literally made me sigh a few times :-)
The vibe at Tsumiki is always calm and friendly, you are being given full attention and will never feel rushed. This salon is a true find — and I have been getting my hair done in Manhattan for 20 years now!

Really great service. Yuki is very friendly and immediately put me at ease. He is extremely capable, and even though I asked for a drastic, complicated process, the end result was GORGEOUS.
Also, I would like to note two things:
— Originally I had an appointment at Hair Kuwayama. Not only was finding an open spot difficult, but the stylist seemed reluctant to block out the time required for the drastic process I was looking for. I finally got fed up and tried calling Tsumiki instead. The scheduling was a breeze, and they were more than happy to accommodate me for the time needed. I guess the other place just didn’t want my money enough.
— The price I was charged was extremely reasonable, especially considering all they did for me (bleach, tone, cut, style), and the time it took. Also, significantly less than what Hair Kuwayama quoted me.
Very happy with my hair and the service. Definitely coming back!

Satsuki is the most awesome person! Not too chatty, she gives you your space and her hands are super gentle. I always fall asleep when I come here. I wake up and my hair looks fabulous. Have been going here for almost 7 years now. She’s a great colorist too. I had my hair colored by someone else there when she was on vacation and it did not look the same even though he copied her notes about my hair. Love that they keep notes about past hair colors and styles. She is the only one allowed to cut my hair and I stand by it since the other person cut my hair when she was on vacation and it was never the same. They also have the best green tea!

Satsuki is awesome. She actually listens to direction (find a picture!) and has a good sense of what works for each client. She’s friendly but won’t talk your head off. And I think it’s priced just right for the value you get… it’s visibly better than some of my past haircuts that were $ 20 – 40 cheaper.

Have been going to Satsuki for 6+ years (back when it was salon Ueno). Love her, she’s cut my hair short, medium, long. She’s permed it. She’s dyed it various shades. I am happy every time.

Sloppy, messy, half a$$ed job. Not recommended.

Len is an awesome stylist! The cute little salon is very relaxing! I love this place because the salon is clean, friendly and chic! The products they use on you smell amazing!

I had another great experience at the Tsumiki Hair Salon on East 9^th Street in the East Village. Unlike other places I’ve been, this salon is highly consistent with their cuts and color. They take just as much time with a trim as with a new style; which is to say each layer, each strand is done right. And, in my experience, the style looks natural and will last a long time.
They use a lovely natural hair color system which has really nice results. I also wanted some highlights and was treated to the latest and best Japanese products. So now I am a «natural blonde» with a little help from my friends at Tsumiki.
I particularly like it a lot because it’s a very friendly place. Both Satsuki, who is my stylist, and the owner, Yuki, are genuinely kind and fun to be around. Plus it’s interesting to go out in the East Village. Their skilled hair cutting and coloring are what keeps me coming back. But it’s fun and friendly and reasonably priced to boot, and that makes the whole experience enjoyable.
Going to Tsumiki is a lovely break from the everyday stresses of life. And you come out looking great. What could be better than that!

Updated my review, my layers actually grows nicely :))), 2 months has passed and I don’t need a trim, yet. For me a great haircut is when the hair grows nice wks to wks, months to months. Yuki definitely has delivered it. This salon is officially become my loyal spot. I do not hesitate anymore. Bring any pics you want and Yuki will consult you first before cutting it. He really takes the time to check your hair and will simply refuse or give you the best advice of what or not to be done on your hair.

I have been following Yuki for several years now, and I was very happy when he got a place of his own.
The salon is located wonderful area of NYC, full of vibrancy, cultural and trendy. You will like the way the salon is situated with big mirrors, a large window and comfy hair cutting chairs.
Early for your appointment? Get a cup of coffee and sit on the the bench out in front of the salon, it is a great people watching spot.
I seriously melt when I get my hair washed. He uses shampoo that smells like lavender and leaves my hair so shiny. During the wash I get a short, but very relaxing scalp massage that always leaves me very relaxed.
Yuki is the ultimate professional and I have been very happy with his services. I have tried both traditional and funky cuts. He can do both very well. He uses all natural products and will deliver a perfect haircut all the time.
