Truly a crook.
I locked myself out at 4am and was delighted when «James» from True Locksmith called me back. He sounded trustworthy, professional– I thought I found my dream locksmith & was ready to refer them to everyone I know.
My building has 2 identical doors which use the same key to open them — no need to install a new lock or add any keys. I explained the exact description and asked how much it would be — he said approximately between $ 85 – 120 but if it was a difficult case it could be a little more.
When I arrived there were 3 guys in a car and my doors were open. The total was $ 271.90. I asked how it could triple in price? They said it was because there were 2 doors. I told them I had already told them that and they were the same lock. I’m also not stupid and know that to pick a lock it is the same jimmied key they need for both doors, but I also wasn’t going to argue with a car full of 3 men on a quiet street in the middle of the night.
I have asked other locksmiths, key-​makers, handymen, and friends in this industry. They all confirmed I definitely got scammed.
Even if you’re in a desperate lock-​out situation, please think twice before calling them.
