I came to this show today with a bunch of friends. As an aside, i got the tickets through student rush so we hardly paid anything. I read some poor reviews online about the show, but decided to give it a shot because of the music(i’m a fan of oldies). The past reviewer is correct. Their really isn’t much of a story. I wish there was. However, it was non-stop, singing and dancing. If you’re the ADHD type and fall asleep during plays, this musical actually could be just the thing for you. The actors had talent, some were better than others. I particularly liked the character who was riding around on the scooter. My favorite song was their rendition of «Girl from Ipanema», with a really cool background of Brazil. I would recommend this show if you could get a discounted ticket like I did. The set alone and the characters outfits are worth the trip.

I was incredibly excited to see this performance. I had heard great things about it and I’m totally in love with everything 1960’s, so this seemed like the performance to see! The walls around the theater are painted in a psychedelic fashion and are so intricately done, it really helps you get excited for the actual play. The theater is intimate, but not too small by any means. Any seat within the theater is a good seat to watch this play, we were somewhere in the middle. I have to admit, I had a lot of different opinions about this play all within the first 20 minutes. I was not aware, and I think other audience members should be aware, that there is not any kind of intense plot here. There is zero dialogue and the story line is pretty short. The idea is that the character, Alice, has taken magic mushrooms and is dreaming and we are viewing that dream. I had no idea what was going on until I re-read my Playbill during the intermission before second act. The entire play is just 60’s song after song, and various characters dancing out these songs. It is difficult to tell that any of these characters are related to each other in any way until the second act. I wish I had known any of this during the first half of the play and hope that someone reads this and finds it helpful. I was not bothered by, but pretty surprised by the amount of nudity in this play, something I usually don’t expect to see in a Broadway or off-Broadway performance. I enjoyed everything from start to finish, but once things made more sense for me in the second act and everything came together and made more sense, I enjoyed it so much more! The music was obviously amazing and the scenery was the most impressive scenery I have ever seen in any performance I’ve attended. While it took me a while to get into the«vibe» of this play, I really enjoyed how everything eventually came together to form a unique, interesting, and exciting performance. Keeping all things above in mind, this is a job well done. The play was so vivid and exciting, I felt like I was in the time period of the play and could not stop talking about it for the whole night after.
