This the best curly hair cut I have had in NYC and it only cost $ 16! I found Maura at The Place(previously at 29 – 22 Ditmars) and was so happy with my hair cut. I got her phone number and was so glad I did because she and her partner just relocated the salon with the new name The Studio. It is no longer right next to the train but it is totally worth the extra trouble to get in Maura’s chair. Shoot, just grab a drink at Hell Gate Social or a bite at Bistro 33 afterwards. I was really happy with how long the first cut lasted because some people in town(with great Unilocal reviews) have cut my hair so badly I left with split ends and got many more very soon after the cut. I have long curly hair with the typical texture of Latinas and Italians. Maura quickly and perfectly layered my hair and then I asked for a blow out to go straight for a change(total $ 40 for cut and blow). It took a while because even with layers I have very thick hair. When she was finished I felt beautiful. My ex boyfriend saw me and told me I looked like I lost weight even though I’ve put on a few pounds. Then he figured out it was my hair that was different and told me it looked great. Note this is not a fancy salon. For instance she washed my hair with Pantene. I love it because it is excellent like a Taqueria is excellent. Maura and her partner are very kind women from Ecuador, and she has kids. I like to support them.
